Last night I attended a dinner hosted by Mr Garrett Oliver that saw Brooklyn Brewery beers paired with the most spectacular food I've had in Ireland. The dishes were of Japanese influence but cooked with locally sourced and foraged Irish produce. Each beer tasted like it was made for the dish. Katie Sanderson is making Ireland proud by cooking the food she does, I hope there are more of her in the future.

Two weeks ago I decided to give up sugar for Lent. I've never done Lent before but decided it'd be easier to do if I had a set time frame, so, Lent it was. Being a lover of desserts, I had to find a compromise and settled on homemade sauerkraut. Highly recommended way to finish a meal!

I have just finished watching Burt's Buzz (a documentary about the man behind Burt's Bees - well worth a watch on the Netflix). The man is an incredibly fascinating character while the story of his business is coloured in both success and betrayal.

The one thing I thought worth sharing was his response when asked why he chose the simple life when he could have chosen fame and fortune and his response was "it is important to separate ones wants from ones needs - that is the key".
