I had to cancel my trip to Copenhagen in October but I’m definitely going to book another trip soon with the hope of seeing the Solar Egg at the incredible location in Copenhagen. The choice of location is also very interesting, I saw it in Stockholm in the midst of nature (see images below).
So, you may want to add wonderful Copenhagen to your list of Scandinavian escapes. The Solar Egg has found its home at the contemporary art space the, Kunsthal Charlottenborg.

The images drew my attention first. This incredible near out-of-this-world unidentified object in the midst of raw nature. What is it? Simply put, it’s another incredible example of innovative Swedish design, at its best.
The Solar Egg, is an award-winning concept and the most unique Swedish sauna experience in the world. Created by artistic duo Bigert & Bergström, with the purpose of being a gift for the town of Kiruna by Swedish housing company, Riksbyggen who commissioned the perfect artists for this creation.
It is not only a gift to the town of Kiruna in the North of Sweden but now a gift to the world. It is currently on the move giving admirers around the world chance to experience this incredible creation. When it came to Stockholm in the beautiful surroundings of the art museum Artipelag, I had to see it and it was worth it.
Riksbyggen's new residential projects in Kiruna will inaugurate the city's already world famous transformation. As you know they entire city needs to be relocated and “this is celebrated with an art project that takes the sun as catalyst for creativity, care, hope and togetherness.
THE ARTISTS
“As a symbol of new beginnings Solar Egg was commissioned by Swedish housing company Riksbyggen and created by Swedish artists Mats Bigert and Lars Bergström. The saunas exterior consists of 69 golden plates reflecting the landscape and its inhabitants. It is heated by a heart-shaped wood-fired burner and can accommodate up to eight persons. Solar Egg captures Kiruna's fantastic spirit and at the same time it's old sauna traditions.
The Golden Egg Sauna is an incredible sight to see and has won the hearts of many especially the architecture and design lovers. If you are in Copenhagen make you don’t miss it in the courtyard of the Kunsthal Charlottenborg in Copenhagen.

The wood burner is shaped like a human heart and weighs 750kg
It is 4,5 meters high and 12,6 meters in circumference.
Assembling the 69 golden plates and 1512 screws takes about 4 to 5 days.
It weighs 2750 kg.
