Barb and I made a special Mother’s Day dinner for my mom (Moroccan Lamb with couscous, roasted carrots and her favorite dessert, Tiramisu). It was tasty!
We looked at a lot of old photos together since I wanted to have digital copies for myself.
I also enjoyed doing a few projects for her during my stay:
Digging up her garden area
Setting up her digital photo frame
Re-photographing a bunch of old pictures & albums
Getting her set up with an medical emergency wristband
Updates for her technology (iPhone & iPad)
Yard work: clean gutters, repaint deck rail, pull weeds
We did a short (3-4 mile) but very scenic hike at The Ledges, in Cuyahoga Valley National Park, near Boston Mills and Peninsula, Ohio. Cool rock formations and so much greenery! Would recommend.

Fort Ancient was our fourth, and last, Native Earthworks site of our Ohio tour of World Heritage Sites.
This one was different from the 3 others. It was located in a forested woodland overlooking the Little Miami river. We enjoyed hiking through, and around the site. The birding was excellent.
Another difference was the extensive and informative displays at the on site museum which explored not only history, but many aspects of the indigenous culture.
We really enjoyed staying at 21C Museum Hotel in Cincinnati. There were two floors of museum quality artwork to examine and a very nice breakfast at the hotel restaurant.
Arriving in Cincinnati, we checked into our hotel and promptly walked to Yard House for dinner and drinks. Afterward, we walked to Kentucky over the Strobling Bridge (built in 1867) and then back to our hotel where we saw hundreds of people learning to dance salsa in Fountain Plaza.
Today, we drove from Cleveland to southern Ohio to visit three ancient World Heritage Sites:
1. Newark Earthworks, Great Circle Ceremonial Site (it is big, 30 acres) and old (built ~100BC). It’s part of a much larger complex of structures that once covered about 3000 acres.
2. Hopewell Culture National Historical Park: Mound City Complex. These are 2000 year old burial mounds.
3. Serpent Mound, the largest effigy mound in the world. It is about 6-8 ft wide, 3-5 ft tall and 1400 ft along the spine of the snake.
Note: all 3 of these aerial photos are not mine. They were downloaded from various websites.
We finished the day by driving to Cincinnati to have dinner and spend the night.
Today is my grand niece’s first birthday. We celebrated with a Serbian style barbecue on the beach with nice views of the Chicago skyline.
We’re in Chicago’s Hyde Park this weekend for my little grand-niece’s first birthday.
Today, we visited MoCP (Museum of Contemporary Photography) 50th anniversary exhibit, the Bean, Palmer House Hotel, Chicago Athletic Assn. Lobby, Central Camera, and had a tasty lunch at Cafecito.
We did a quick stop at Minihaha Falls on our train ride to MSP Airport.
We spent our 2nd (and last) day in Minneapolis exploring the Sculpture Garden and the Walker Art Museum.
We had a long pleasant walk (and audio tour) today along the Mississippi River.
We stopped at Open Book for a coffee and some browsing before lunch at Owamni, where we had; popcorn and crickets, mushroom soup, bison tartare and maple and vanilla “flan” for dessert. Our pre colonial, indigenous lunch was both interesting and delicious.
After lunch we walked to UofM’s Weiseman Art Museum to see the building—designed by Frank Gehry.
Arrival in Minneapolis and first time visit to Minnesota today. It was interesting to fly over the not so mighty Mississippi River. We took the airport train to Target Field Station for easy access to our hotel, Element by Marriott. We did some beer tasting and had dinner at Bricksworth Beer Co.
We did a self-guided architectural walking tour and some street photography on our last day in Vancouver.
On our 2nd day in Vancouver we visited the Vancouver Art Gallery in the morning.
And took a walk around Granville Island in the afternoon.
We had an early morning departure from Whitehorse and a 2 hour flight over the snowy mountains to Vancouver today. We took the train from the airport and checked into the Opus Hotel in Yaletown. In the afternoon, we took a long walk through the city center ending with craft beers in Strathcona.
Our third , and last day in Whitehorse was spent with a sunny morning walk along the river and dog sledding in the afternoon.
