Continuing on our theme of counterfeit bikes of Mexico, this here is, I believe a gringo expat’s spraypainted and very well re-decaled very not Trek 8000. I admire either this person’s sense of humor or total lack thereof in trying to convince onlookers of their ownership of an “authentic Trek.”
I always wondered if somewhere in the world Shimano actually made bikes. I have a feeling this is but a knock off, but it can be enjoyed anyway! Here you see the elusive Shimano Brand single speed mountain bike complete with crashed fork and perfectly-parallel-to-the-ground brake levs! THAT RACK IS CHROME!!!
Too cool for an actual drivetrain.

This bike is a testament to the true strength of steel. Dude crashes his bike bending the fork backwards which probably made his Rad Tarck Bike unrideable so he rotated his RISEN stem 180 degrees so that the wheel could clear the frame and rode on like nothing happened. Good antitheft measure to take when using such a snippable lock.
I think this is one of the most baffling bikes I’ve ever seen. Let me count the ways:
1. Rod brakes and a cyclo computer on the same bike
2. Seat stays that extend above the top tube. How and why???
3.Ram’s horns/Antler party on a cruiser
4. That seat!
4.5 That rack!
You know you are the hippest motherfucker on Earth (or in Portland which is pretty much the same thing I’m told) when you REMOVE the brake pads from your bike and then go out and ride it anyway.
I am very glad to see that vehicular superiority of The Man does not exist in Valladolid. An egalitarian society indeed.
It’s so strange to me that bikes in Yucatan (and probably other parts of Central America) are a mishmash of the very antique and the futuristic. Features like very oval tubing and aero wheels in concert with cottered cranks and the world’s saddest rear derailleur make for a confusing ride. But, damn; You know that bike will probably be ridden many more miles than any bike I own!
I have this fantasy where I put an 11 speed Dura Ace group (it used to be a 10 speed group, for obvious reasons) on a Schwinn Varsity frame just to own the absolute stupidest bike ever. Since that's probs not gonna happen, I'd like to share with you the next best thing. 9s Tiagra and Rolf Vector wheelz on a gas-pipe Raleigh. Turns out you CAN shine shit! I would ride this bike so hard.
If there is anyone who can appreciate the absurd levels of comfort such an upright cockpit can provide, it is I, but this TRVST's main point of interest is the sick combo of a "really nice" front wheel with a bargain basement rear wheel, complete with megarange FW and THE MOST STRESSED OUT REAR DERAILLEUR EVER TO EXIST. That’s like riding a 1:1 ratio in your large big chainring! That’s some ACTUAL LEGIT performance-art! Musta moved here from New York.
Yo, whoever owns this bike must have bought it brand new at the Road Bike Dispensary and ridden it SO aggressively, racing up N. Williams against the plebian masses that the seat just fucking gave up and surrendered to the rider's grundle of steel, knowing that it could never fulfill expectations. And so loved by the rider, the saddle was mournfully bound the saddle in not one, but two kinds of sticky tape so that they may enjoy just one more ride to the Whole Foods together. Over and over and over again.
I'm not totally sure this qualifies as a TRAVESTY, buuuuuut it's definitely part of the Absurd Alberta handlebars Club AND it's the dread Peugeot that the owner has valiantly tried to spiff up with some Victory and gooder components than the bonfire-worthy Simplex that originally adorned this gas-pipe steed. I, for one, can certainly appreciate the slammed seatpost with comedically high stem cause that shit's hella comfortable. This is the kind of bike I'd build if I had way too much time on my hands and a bunch of bike guts that were too nice not to use.
Finally, a fierce competitor for the worst bike ever! But the truly shocking thing about this bike is that A. It's locked with a U Lock, and B. Someone tried to steal it and upon failure to do so, decided to steal the pedals which are worth exactly ZERO nuggz of meth. Spite is right! This bike poor bike never even had a chance. Someone melt it down already!
Oh, this poor 1990ish Bianchi Alfana! What could possibly have happened to the original stem that would warrant replacing it with a 3 lb. pre-war eyesore that was never intended to have a set of 26.0 bars forcibly inserted into its sad lil' hole? Is there some license you receive when you own a Bianchi in the Alberta area that permits you to Trav It Up? Trav It Up?! Trav It Up!! This scientific study needs to be peer reviewed, but clearly there is a trend.
TravestyBikeSpotter Extraordinaire, French Clements alerts us to an aborted attempt making a brilliant-looking chopper freak-bike out of Huffys, newsprint, and plaster that he spotted while looking for 8 speed Dura Ace bits on Craigslist. Not a bad price, all things considered.

When your DBack road bike needs a giant pair of tarck handlebars on a positive rise stem with the levers in an impossible to reach position, you know you're living in the fast lane. Another Alberta St. Travesty.
I don't know from which godforsaken big box store these travs spew forth, but I keep seeing them around town. At least this rider had the good sense to make it into a performance art piece by rotating all that could be rotated into horribly uncomfortable positions.
