Alice just rolled her eyes. “Of course there’s such thing as fall spirit… Yeah, it’s gloomy but also cozy and Halloween is literally the best holiday so I don’t know what you’re talking about.”

“Halloween? What are you, fifteen?” He never understood the appeal of those festivities. They were just an excuse for people to do dumb things. “How is it even the best holiday? It started out kind of okay back in the day people actually dressing up as those so called monsters now it’s just filled with a bunch of horny teenagers trying to sex themselves up. It’s stupid.”

James a moment spread his arms, maybe just pretending for a second until reaching out his right arm and giving Troy a solid punch to the nose. Sure there was going to be conciseness but nothing was out of the norm for him. “That take, you fucker. Don’t you fuckin’ touch me without my consent.”

Maybe Troy should’ve seen it coming. This person was gruff and boorish, just everything that made Troy hate working in a place like this. The punch sent him back but he quickly pulled out cuffs from his belt. He gave the nearest orderly a signal to sedate him if necessary. Reaching out to grab his arm. “That’s it. Stay down. You’re going straight to solitary, buddy.”

“Why do I keep coming here?” Louisa murmured to herself, sticking the visitor pass on her top and then sighing “I’m probably not helping her at all, or helping myself even..” The brunette then cleared her throat “I’m here to see Lilith Locke.”

Troy rubbed the tip of his nose, having been exhausted by all the visitors coming this weekend. He wanted it to end. Dealing with the patients was already hell, now there was a horde of people either looking for a fight, pity party, or some piss poor justification over the shitty things their relatives had done. “Haven’t seen her all day.” He grumbled. “Who are you?”

“You’re the fifth person to say that. What’s with all the dysfunctionality?” Troy muttered under his breath, breaking a sweat from the extra work he had to suffer. “You need help finding her?”

Cameron sat on the grass, staring out a the garden. He was admittedly a little lost in his thoughts and didn’t want to be outside, it was too hot for his liking but something his therapist had said about getting outside, not letting himself stay cooped up in doors had stuck out. And so out he wondered, into the sunny garden. His fingers mindlessly picked at the grass beneath him as he hummed gently to himself, the humming turned into the tune of a personal favourite song and then developed into the lyrics and so, quietly on the grassy knoll, Cam sung to himself. “There are things that used to make me smile. One of them was you for just a little while. You left me for dead so far away, I replaced you with fear and shame.You’ll be happy on the day I die..”

He hadn’t noticed the other occupant of the garden approaching so it startled him slightly when they walked by. “Do you want something?” He muttered before looking up to see who had interrupted the quiet.

Troy was simply taking a break. He had been exhausted making sure the patients weren’t doing anything too drastic, forcing him to always keep his eyes open. Times like these he wished he had picked another job, but this was the best the city could offer while he was packing up to do bigger things in the future. He started rubbing his eyes as he walked outside, seeing a boy sitting down there and singing? Huh. That looked odd. Almost laughable to a degree but he didn’t want to make him falsely assume he was enjoying the spectale. He wasn’t. “Enjoying the concert.” He said, a snort managed to slip through his nose. “Aren’t you supposed to be inside doing therapy, rockstar?”

“N-Nothing,” he mumbled, holding the book close. CJ turned to leave, wishing he could just teleport to his room, so he wouldn’t have to deal with anyone. “I w-was j-just gonna go t-to my r-room,” he said, not making eye contact. Maybe that would make the man leave him alone.

“Are you hiding something?” He asked, almost barked. Feeling immediately suspicious of his hasty actions the guard immediately stepped forward. “Stay where you are, Charles. I’ll have to check on you.”

“Says who? I want to talk to someone first.” The comment of being touched by some stranger make him let out a deep breath - too reminiscent of his young age and in the Sea Org. “Prison was better than here - so maybe I’ll feel at home.” Troy’s attempt to get on is nerve just made him chuckle though his chest still felt tight.

“Says the head, says the coworkers. Says me. You’ll be able to speak with them once you’ve been fully inspected.” He said with a shrug, having a feeling if he would act nonchalantly or like the other didn’t really matter it could make him shut up. “Good. Maybe we’ll keep you there forever so no one will have to see you ever again and your existence will be forgotten. Spread your arms.”

CJ flinched away from the guard, trying his best not shake. “I-I said I w-was sorry,” he muttered, biting his lip as he shuffled away. He hoped the man would just leave him alone, due to his want to go back to his room. CJ feared he’d be followed, or told he couldn’t hide away.

The other male appeared like he was about to freak out within any seconds and that would be a big hassle. It was his job but Troy hated having to scuffle around with patients sometimes especially when he was feeling crabby like he did at this point. “The matter with you? You look like you’re about to pass out or cry.”

“You’re not going to touch me.” James dropped any other words he had to say - they didn’t matter much anymore. “I will break your fuckin’ nose if you touch me anywhere.” James growled. He was tired of being picked and prodded and having full body searches.

“Yes, I am. I have the authority to inspect you.” He wasn’t even blustered by the threat as he was used to patients threatening him. Some of them followed the actions, others were all just bluffing. “And I will lock you up in SHU if you touch me. For what, could be a day. A week. A month. Maybe you’ll reminisce your prison time again. How’s that sound?”

CJ sighed softly to himself as he stared down at the book in his lap. He couldn’t read it anymore. Doing so made him think about her and right now it was just too painful. He should give it back to the library, but he didn’t want to let go. CJ scrubbed his face before standing up slowly, stumbling as he knocked into someone. “S-Sorry. M’sorry,” he whispered, leaning over to grab the book where it’d dropped to the floor as he lost his balance.

It wasn’t an uncommon thing to find Troy in a bad mood but this time, he was all broody because of something different. He wasn’t pissed per say, it was just one of those days where he wanted to be on his own even though his job was to watch over these kids. Maybe he was just tired of this building or how some things didn’t ever go his way. Deep within the realm of his own thoughts, the guard looked up when he felt someone bump into him. Instead of just yelling, he merely grumbled. “Watch it, Charles.”

Pursing her lips, she curled her toes, trying not to get mad, but it wasn’t working very well. Keep calm. He’s bigger than you are. “But I spent time cleaning it. And it bothers me.” Amber had no idea whether or not she could take him. She probably couldn’t, but she was trying her best to stay calm. No, you can take him. Tell him it’s your table. Taking a deep breath, she shook her head. “Don’t talk to me like that! I spent energy on this and you’re being incredibly rude. Why are you being rude? I don’t like the tone of your voice.”

Shaking his head, Troy let his lips purse and his eyebrows narrow in what seemed like an attempt to harshly coerce them to leave. He didn’t trust the patients enough to let them touch things no matter how trivial the object may have seemed. “I don’t care if it bothers you. Go clean your room and stop sticking your nose where it doesn’t belong, kid.” He said and sighed when she just continued on with her complaints. “No one asked you to do this. Am I the one who’s rude here? You’re the one who’s been yapping around. Just move and let me take care of this. Got it?”

“I’m sure the same could be said about you. If I’m so old, why must you go through my stuff? Surely I can’t cause any harm.” James didn’t have much to begin with, just some clothes and nothing else. “You ain’t shit compared to some of the guards I’ve seen. Pathetic.” James stepped back. “I don’t have no bag that you’re looking for. All my clothes is put away, and I had nothing more.” His clothes didn’t even arrive is a clothing bag but instead just a garbage from the prison.

He burst into a small laughter. “Are you hearing yourself right now? Just because you’re old doesn’t mean you’re incapable of doing dumb things. The fact that you’re being so defensive is not helping your case at all.” Was Troy annoyed? Of course he was, he was always annoyed anyway but he tried not let this man get the best of him. “Is that supposed to hurt me? Ouch. I can feel my heart breaking.” He said with a sigh. “Fine. Spread your arms aside, I need to check your pockets.”

“Oh. I know exactly what I’m talking about. You’re some old patient who complains about anything that doesn’t go your way.” Honestly, he saw a lot of his type walking around recently and it was stressing the brunet guard out. “I’m one of the guards. Ever heard of those before? It’s my job to make sure you wouldn’t be stirring shit. Give me your bag.”

James had done his best to hide away. He was already tired, taken away from his friends and family. Truth be told, sure he wasn’t on his best behavior and probably earned it but that didn’t make it anymore easier to be there. He didn’t think he deserved to go so far and to be put in this asylum. “Quit your fuckin’ starin’. I get it, I’m god-like but even Jesus himself needed to catch a fuckin’ break.”

Troy had to laugh at the remark. It was so abrupt he had to press his gloved hand against his mouth to stifle the noise. Most of the patients around here gave him a headache but there was plenty of those who just baffled him in the most ridiculous ways. “No break for an old tired chap like you, I’m afraid.” He said, taking a few steps closer. “I need to inspect your belongings.”

Amber put her hands up, to protect the table she’d cleaned. “Can you please be careful with the table? I just picked every crumb off it. It’s perfect now, okay?” To know that the table was a mess drove her insane. It was bothering her, way too much. When she looked at it, she felt herself physically shaking, needing to make it perfect. So, picking each and every crumb off was exactly what she did. Each one went into the trash, ever so perfectly. “Be nice to the table.”

“Don’t tell me what to do.” His voice was gruff when he spoke. His fingers stretched to move the table they were disputing about to one side, wanting to get his job done as soon as possible. It wasn’t his typical work but the janitors had been slacking a lot and he knew he had to step in soon. Did he have time to have a silly argument with a ruffled patient? Of course not. “Let go of it. Jesus. You’re in my way.”
