Captain Falcon Neutral Game
As the 2nd fastest character in the game, but one of the heaviest as well. Falcon has a really good on stage game with all of the combos he has. Falcon has many low percentage combos that rack up damage. Most of his aerials have little lag (U-air, N-air, B-air) His F-air (knee) and D-air have lots of landing lag so they arenât used as often.
Grabs
Falcon is a very grab heavy character and can get really good combos off of them. His D-throw and F-throw are his combo throws, but his U-throw isnât as good for combos, and B-throw kills if youâre throwing them towards the blast zone at higher percents.Â
Mixing Up Grabs
Since Falcon is so dependant on grabs, people who know the matchup will know Falcon will go for grabs. If you are getting little to no grabs in a game, your opponent has either noticed a pattern in how you approach to grab or are spacing you out. You have to make sure that your grabs arenât too predictable otherwise you wonât get grabs at all. Extended dash dancing comes is handy when trying to grab because the opponent doesnât know when youâll grab, just make sure you change the timing of grabs.Â
Landing Options
When landing, U-air and B-air are good options of pushing your opponent out because both have very little landing lag. N-air has little lag as well but isnât as strong unless youâre hitting with the 2nd hit of N-air.Â
Reading Directional Influence (DI)
Reading DI is super important to extending your combos from throws. For example if you D-throw them, will they DI forward or towards you? Make sure to pay attention to details like this because people who know the Falcon MU should know not to DI in towards Falcon because of his Knee. DI outwards, you can Nair depending on percentages. Using D-grab into a f-throw at low percentages you can dash attack into the opponent, however keep in mind the opponent can DI down and tech the ground and either roll or get up normally.Â
Kill Options
Main kill moves are B-air, Side-B (not recommended), or any of his offstage options.Â

Captain Falcon Off Stage Game and Edge Guarding Game
This applies to Smash 4, so if youâre here for Melee stuff, you shouldnât read this.
Overview
Falcon is one of the heaviest characters in the game, but is the 2nd fastest character in the game. (1st is Sonic) However Falconâs recovery options are just as bad as the decisions that Bush made when he was in the White House. Lol jk Cloudâs recovery is worse. His recovery can get gimped very easily however, so playing against characters with a really good off stage game is difficult (Sheik, Pika)Â
Itâs a good idea to keep your double jump off stage, because youâll be forced to use Up-B if you donât have it.Â
Movement Offstage
Falcon, surprisingly, has a lot of horizontal speed in the air after using his Up-B. Recovering onto the stage isnât a good option because of the lag it has, which can lead to a punish if the opponent has a long ranged attack or near you. However, if your opponent is far from you, or is a close ranged character, doing a reverse Up-B onto the stage can be an option. (Using the Up-B and reversing it so you go around the edge without grabbing it and landing on stage) Also, Falcon can sway back and forth really easily in air, so you can make a opponent think your going to land on the stage but pull back real quick to land on the ledge. (Be careful when doing this because if you pull back to far, youâll miss the edge when falling)Â
Edge Guarding
Falconâs edge guarding options are his B-air,D-tilt, D-air, U-tilt, F-air? and Iâm still testing stuff with U-air.
*Always check to make sure if your opponent is grabbing the edge twice, the 2nd time you grab it you donât get invincibility so you can punish with a run off b-air or spike them.Â
Falcons B-air is a really good kill move especially if the opponent is near the blast zone, and it has almost no landing lag.Â
Falconâs D-air is another really good move but has a bit of cooldown. It has a spike property thatâs super good.Â
U-tilt has a spike property as well, so it's good to punish opponents if they sway away from the ledge or have recoveries that put them above the ledge or donât snap immediately (Mewtwo, Kirby, Shulk, Ike) Good option against horizontal recoveries as well. (Can try to hit the 2 framer)
D-tilt is good because Falcons legs go over the edge, usually good for Horizontal recoveries like Fox and Falcoâs Side-B.
The Knee of Justice should only really be used if you know you can hit it, or if you want to be really swag. His f-air has a lot of cool down after and you can get punished if you miss it. Run off F-air is a good option towards characters like Ness or Lucas if near the edge.Â
As of recently Iâve been testing the waters with using U-air as a edgeguarding tool. The back/end of his U-air actually pushes opponents back, its not a strong tool but it really works well if the opponent has a weak recovery, or they have used their double jump already. (or other recovery options Ex. Ryu already used double jump and side-b, so you u-air him away from edge, his up-b wonât reach then)
Captain Falcon Combo list
This is some basic stuff that all falcons should now in smash 4, all stuff isnt true because of Di and stuff.
Moves no never really use, U-throw, B-throw (only use bthrow if throwing opponent off stage, it kills at a certain percent, but theres no combos off of it), d-special, s-special, any other laggy ass moves he has just dont use, rarely use side b to recover on stage, it has lots of cool down when landing with it
**WHEN DOWN THROWING AN OPPONENT DIs IN TOWARDS YOU, YOU CAN 90% OF THE TIME GET A KNEE, FOR FOR DI IN AIR AND AIR DODGES.
Low %âs
Dash grab > F-Throw > Dash attack
*There canât be a dash attack follow up if the opponent DIs and techs the groundÂ
First Hit nair > Grab
U-tilt > GrabÂ
First 2 hits of jab > grab
D-Grab > d-throw > (depends on DI) Nair or Uair
Mid %âs
f-throw combos stop working at this percent but d-throw works really well still.
D-throw > nair or uair
Short hop U-air into knee (1 full hop should do)
*Near edge U-air into u-tilt for spike near the edge, in rare situations.
OFF STAGE GAME
Falconâs back air is super duper good. Definitely be careful about going off stage you can get gimped easily because falconâs recovery is booty. B-air is a great tool to kill an opponent real quick, kills are a fairly low% too. His d-air spikes which makes it really good, Iâd only go for a spike if guaranteed or for swag points, because fast falling with it will probably lead to an SD.Â
Interestingly enough Falconâs up air has a unique hitbox where if you hit with right spot it knocks the opponent backwards. The back of his U-air is the area with this property (where the hitbox ends), however this isnât a reliable tool to edge guard with.Â
Run off nair is good because at high percents the 2nd hit of nair can kill if close enough to the blast zone.Â
U-tilt spikes so its good when you catch an opponent recovering onto the stage rather than going to the ledge.Â
if i missed something hmuÂ
best of luck falconsÂ
