why aren't there more words for wound that aren't wound and aren't shit
Hiiii! From what I’ve gathered, you’re an avid AO3 writer.
I looked through your profile but couldn’t find a working link. Would you please help me out? Just a link, your username,... anything.
I heard you wrote an awesome Matthew x Fritz fic, you know. I can’t let that escape me.
Thank youuu
Well. This is embarrassing, but sure, you can have the link, I just might disappoint you because I did actually delete that Fritthew fic. You’ll find plenty of passable quality Jadder fics at least!

saw someone say that henry would struggle with this
I have no idea what the hell my current WIP is about or where it's going and yet it just keeps getting longer
Looking for Cuno and/or Cunoesse centred Disco Elysium fics is so annoying because they're either 100 words long or they declaw them into more palatable (unrecognisable) characters
I struggle through my own writing on the subject (for which my only consolation is the principle of "make it exist first, you can make it not suck later"). And I don't think it's easy, really? The balance is trucky, unless you're writing something incredibly depressive about the dynamic duo driving their fates into the ground in full alienation of the wider society (as is their most likely trajectory).
Once you consider the alternatives, however, you immediately notice that even the base game changes Cuno quite a bit to make him more palatable if he joins Harrier after the Tribunal. And it largely makes sense: the guy is willing to go pretty far to exit the dead scene of Martinaise with his middle fingers held high. Can even avoid uttering the word f****t aloud (although you bet he's still thinking it).
I agree that a lot of fanfiction smooths the edges of the two, reducing them to this "poor suffering innocent kid" archetype aimed at bleeding heart audience. But again, the game itself paints a very sympathetic picture, I'd argue, though mostly through what is not there rather than what is. We meet a few kids younger than Cuno and C (Lilienne's trio) or relatively better off and frail (Anette); yet none of them complain about the two bullying them, or beating them up for fun, or shaking them down - all the stuff fully expected from troubled teens.
PS: I'm not sure Cunoesse's Suruese background gives much meat for storytelling. In the game it, what, gives her particular speech patterns, and determines the kind of malicious spirit she pretends to be when stressed. Well, and her pseudonym, of course. Other than that, eh, it's not like there are many stereotypes of the Finns in the public perception to go off of, other than being sauna-obsessed depressed alcoholics. Saunas are unlikely to come up, and in Revachol Occupation Zone, depressed alcoholics aren't exactly rare anyway. That leaves what, an uneasy relationship with yakberries and fisherpeople?
Yeah, I think we're pretty much in agreement here. I've been working on something Cunoesse centred for a few days and she in particular is often difficult to balance. She is a sympathetic character, and I don't even think she's excessively mean, just guarded and (imo justifiably, at least in her eyes) terrified of Harry. But like I said, she responds to that fear by hissing and spitting, and I don't not understand why people erase that a little in fics that give her a happier ending, because that does make for an easier transition from canon Cunoesse into happy ending Cunoesse, I just also think it's... not as rewarding.
If I were being a bit more serious about my original post I might've rephrased it into something more along the lines of how fanfiction centred on Cuno and Cunoesse (particularly fics where they get adopted and have a happier ending than the one they almost certainly get in canon) often files down their biggest canon characteristics because it makes for easier writing and more obviously sympathetic characters, and it makes it hard for me to get invested in them. The reason I'm interested in the fic in the first place is because I liked canon Cuno and Cunoesse! I was already sympathetic of her and thought she was obviously hurting when she spent the entire game terrified of Harry and hurling insults at him, I don't need a fic to have her discussing her emotions and her trauma to someone she barely knows to feel that, you know? It makes her feel like someone else, and I wanted to read about Cunoesse.
And this does also apply to Cuno, though to a lesser extent, given there is a canon ending where he essentially begs to be taken out of Martinaise. But even then, the begging is largely done through shouting and insults, and when you try to press him about serious things (why he's not with Cunoesse) he shuts you down and doesn't let you ask again. The Junior Officer Cuno ending is so good to me because it manages to show you that Cuno is just a kid who's hurting and wants help without making him feel like they replaced Cuno the gremlin who throws rocks at corpses and calls you slurs with Cuno the scared little boy. All the small changes to his character are completely justified and understandable.
But at the end of the day, it is also just fanfiction, and of course I'd never criticise specific people for writing the characters the way they'd like to, etc etc.
(And I also wish we had more about Cunoesse's heritage, because pretty much all you can do with it without making almost everything up yourself and vaguely basing it off of either Finland or the X7 leaks is throwing in the occasional "vittupää" in her dialogue. So you're kinda stuck between worrying that you're drifting too far from the source material and whether it fits into the incredibly unique world, or feeling lazy.)
Do you ever think about how one of the last things Adder sees is Janosh being so grief-stricken that he has to hide his face?
btw if you like cuno and not cunoesse i am killing you with 10000000 hammers. she is ten and i love her

I see no difference. Love is love ❤️
Henry's dick should be average at most but really I think it should be on the smaller size.

AO3 after I refresh a page: woah woah woah, who the fuck are you? No, get back here, I have NEVER seen you before in my life, you need to log back in. No, don’t bother refreshing or going back to the homepage, I know we’ve never seen you around these parts before
AO3 after I log in again: ???? Uhh ok ig… you know you were literally already signed in though?? You weirdo. Freak. Idiot. Why did you log in when you’re already logged in? If you’re that desperate to log in why didn’t you log out first, stupid?? Kinda weird that you decided to try to log in when you’re already logged in. Have you ever used a website, fool?
I've had some more Theresa thoughts.
I think the reason Theresa doesn't want to keep Mutt and the reason she is hesitant to fully commit to a relationship with Henry stem from the same cause: she just lost everything and it nearly destroyed her, so now she is scared to have things again.
If she lets herself have a dog and it dies like Tinker dies, or it she lets herself love Henry and he dies like her family did, it will ruin her all over again. And she is in such a fragile emotional state as it is that she doesn't want to take that risk lest this time she breaks for good.
Especially since Henry seems intent to throw himself into danger at every opportunity in his quest for revenge.
Henry is clearly very important to her. But she's not in the emotional space for a committed relationship while struggling to heal from the loss of her home and family.
Henry is raw and hurting, too, but it just makes him want to cling onto the people and things he does have and not let them go. Henry does the opposite of putting up walls- he reaches out to everyone, forms little connections with so many people just for the barest scrap of what he lost: a community and a family and a place to belong. He lost so much that he has to try and fill that void so that he has something to hold onto- a lifeline to keep him from drowning in his grief and rage. He needs other people or he is lost. But Theresa lost so much that she can't bear to let anything else into her heart right now lest she lose it too- lest it drag her under.
But even so, she cares about Henry. He is a bright light in her life, the closest person she has left, and she is clearly scared of losing him or of him forgetting about her as he's taken away on missions and adventures. "Promise me you'll take care of yourself- even if you were to go away for a long time and meet other girls, I couldn't bear it if I lost you. So be careful," is not something you say to someone you don't care about or that you want to stop having in your life. Theresa just needs time to heal before she can let things into her heart again.
Two teasers of the fic I'm working on to prove I am still alive and (sometimes) writing
One night, Janosh packs his things, and runs. Perhaps run isn’t the right word. There isn’t anything in particular to run from, nothing that meant he’d needed to flee. He’s not in danger. He’s not broke. He still has some family. Truth be told, he isn’t entirely sure why he decides to do it at all. Though the inspiration comes to him in the afternoon, it’s not till night that he leaves, and he only hopes it won’t completely destroy his poor wife when she wakes up to an empty bed the next morning. No one is told where he’s going—because quite frankly, he doesn’t know himself—no one even told he’s leaving at all. Maybe he’ll come back someday, though the weight in his stomach he knows wasn’t always there but somehow can’t imagine life without shifts at the thought, and he knows he never will.
Leszek is no stranger to running. Most of his early memories involve it to some degree—running after hares he’ll never catch in the woods as a small child, and after girls he will in the village as a slightly bigger child. Running from his Father for as long as he can remember, though he’d rather not. Running is familiar enough in childhood that an adulthood spent evading the grasp of both bandits and guards alike is nothing he’s bothered by. It’s normal to pack his things in a hurry and slip out the back window in the dead of night, to sometimes not get the chance to do even that and simply take some sucker’s horse with just the clothes on his back and whatever he happens to have in his pouch. It means he has very little, but it’s freeing to not be held down and stuck where he is, to have nothing to keep him vulnerable, to have nothing follow him his whole life. If anything, it’s staying in one place he hates. That feels like danger. This feels like running. It isn’t. All his life, every hastily packed pouch and haphazardly stolen horse, every appearance in a new town where no one’s yet seen his face has been from something. A bounty on his head, another bandit he inevitably pisses off one way or another, husbands who are either too nosy or married women who are too mouthy. But tonight, there are no guards, no bandits, no husbands, and nothing to run from. Nothing but himself in the dimly lit, too hot room he only rented a week or two ago, and what little he owns—which is so little it may as well not count as anything, really.
Sometimes I see people talk about Adder and bring up this moment with something to the effect of “huh, he’s not interested in Katherine and can recognise she has feelings, he’s not as sexist as the rest of the pack because he doesn’t objectify her the way they do, he sees her as a person”
Which, yeah, I would say it does mean he’s not quite as objectifying of women as he seems, given you expect him to be all over Katherine’s boobs, and that he’s capable of seeing women as a little more than sex objects and can read their emotions better than the rest of the pack (a very high bar /s), but… I’m really not sure I’d call “a woman should be soft, delicate, and nice, and Katherine is tough that’s why I’m not into her” a feminist statement that respects women
