steve keeps the habit quiet; once a week, when the world isn’t looking, he stops by eddie’s grave with whatever new tape he found that week, usually something loud, something with skulls, something he pretends he picked at random and he sits in the grass and just rambles, updates about their latest crawl mission, every little thing dustin does that stresses him out, worries he doesn’t voice to anyone else, the things he wishes eddie were here to help him deal with.

he stays until the sun slips down and both sides of the tape have played out, leaving it by the headstone with a soft huff of “still think it’s shit, munson” before walking back to his car.

every other week the tape is gone. he tells himself dustin probably grabbed it. maybe it comforts the kid. but in the quiet part of himself he likes to pretend it’s eddie taking it, wherever he is.
