From the same anon who brought you the dog post, comes the completely expected (to me) cat post:
The Maine Coon is characterized as a very rugged and adventurous cat that will stick its nose into just about anything and have a grand old time about it.
Touted as one of the biggest cat breeds, the Maine Coon has a massive build, a long furry coat, and a muscular frame as well as a coat specialized for the weather and the water.
These were proper working cats that did their job well, originating in the Northeast of the US and hunting mice as well as other vermin.
Maine Coons are quite smart, digging things up to look for them and happily playing and going into water, even pursuing their owners into the showers sometimes.
They also make a wide variety of noises, but not so much meowing, and they're not even considered that talkative in comparison to other breeds.
One key characteristic of this cat is that they're quite friendly and will get along with just about anyone or any animal. They're quite laid-back about it and they can be, as they dwarf most cats and even some dogs and smaller kids.
This cat is quite independent, but it needs some stimulation and will absolutely demand your attention... no matter what you're doing. This extends to everyone in the vicinity.
It can absolutely be trained, but just know that it will keep you on your toes if it ever gets bored properly. A good play session or a walk outdoors is enough to tucker it out for a nap.
At the end of the day, this cat is quite simple, and if after a long day of work and play it gets to chill by your side? That's enough.
The Speakers would enjoy having this kind of cat around, so I chose this one for our resident one.
Characterized as highly inquisitive, explorative, intelligent, friendly, social, and beautiful, the Havana Brown is a more recent breed, but a beloved one regardless.
They communicate in a wide variety of ways, such as a paw gently tapping you for attention, or a paw pressing into your cheek if that doesn't work.
These cats also have a knack for getting into things they shouldn't be, exhibiting a rather mischievious nature.
The smart thing about it is that it will wait for the opportunity to present itself (someone opening a cabinet) before making its move and getting into it, glasses and plates be damned.
Things will also go missing. Not because of theft, no, but to further investigate them at a later date. Pay no heed to the pile of knick-knacks behind the wardrobe.
These cats can be successfully distracted from burglary with mental games and puzzles that will get this cat's mind going.
If there's something new in the area, you can bet that a Havana Brown will be right there investigating it first, pawing at it and sniffing at it to really get a feel for what it is.
What they live for, however, is company, and a Havana Brown will be happiest when there are fellows around. A content one will be curled up by a fellow pet or dozing in someone's lap.
They thrive on human interaction, constantly following people around, playing with them, or sitting and purring in their laps. They'll also gladly play with other cats and dogs around.
The cat is brilliant, playful, and companionable, but it loves to hang around its favorite people the most.
For starters, this cat is beautiful. Long, silky fur, delicate frame, and large, expressive eyes make this can one of the more iconic breeds.
However, do not be fooled by it's ethereal appearance. Although it it known to be graceful, elegant, and refined, its frame is compact muscle and it possess a will that will not bend nor break.
It konws what it likes, and you will be operating on it's rules. Pet me here and there, but nowhere else. Hold me like this and only for five minutes at a time. I will sit here whether you want me to or not. You may be one of the pets, but I am the pet, understand?
Can you call it bossy? Yeah. And it will let every single pet and person know who's really in charge.
If you want to find this cat, look up. It will perch on the highest surface you can find, whether to observe its domain or to look down on you specifically, one can't be sure.
However, once you let one in, good luck pulling it off of you. It is loyal to a fault and will promptly insert itself into every facet of your life.
You're doing something? It's watching you to make sure you get it right. You're putting something over there? I'll grab one of them for you and help you. One of the other pets are acting up? Don't worry about it, I'll set them straight.
While it is independent, it needs if not craves attention. You can't leave it alone; it'll walk into another room, but the world will have ended if you left the house without letting it know.
It also teeters towards jealousy over their preferred person if they see that another pet is getting more attention than it.
Boredom spent lamenting may become glasses broken out of sheer pettiness. This, however, can be mitigated by some play time and one-on-one.
The cat holds a multitude of contradictions, but you'll always know for certain that that's your cat.

Bonus - The Problem With Shelving
There's a new shelf that's been installed recently, and the Havana Brown is all over it. Nothing's been put on it yet, so she has plenty of room to lounge. Before long though, something else catches her eye and she hops back down.
Another perch is always going to be of interest to the Turkish Angora. If there was stuff on it now, it's knocked off to make room; he has an area to survey after all. But first, a self-clean on his favorite countertop in the kitchen.
The Maine Coon nearly slides it off the underlying supports the first few attempts, but he gets it after a few tries. There's a lot of him to shuffle around, and the sun hits this spot perfectly.
This Maine Coon doesn't know when the Havana Brown joined him for his impromptu nap, but he is not bothered enough to do anything about it. The sun's too nice to make a fuss.
He also doesn't know what the Turkish Angora's deal is. He didn't even do anything! The sun's in just the right place and I'll be damned not to take advantage of it.
The Turkish Angora perceives this egregious crime (the fact that another cat, specifically the Maine Coon, is on his new perch) as a great offense and acts accordingly.
A swat here, a poke there. At some point, he even tries to bite the poor guy's tail. Nasty, nasty cat when he's pissed off.
The Havana Brown, on the other hand, will absolutely swat back at him if he dares to try something like that.
She has in the past, and over a cushion next to the fish tank, no less. Granted, it was her perfect size and wouldn't accomodate more, but she could have tried to make it work.
The Maine Coon could tell you the same. One time, he got her just a little wet from the sink, and she nearly ripped out a chunk of his fur.
It was a complete accident, but she didn't want to hear it. And she was the one who cuddled up next to him!
At some point though, the Maine Coon fights back, and the weight and power behind him has the Turkish Angora scrambling away in a panic, ending the tussle for now. The Havana Brown barely stirred.
The resulting stalemate lasts for about two days until the Maine Coon tries to get to that same spot while the Turkish Angora is there.
To no one's surprise, the Coon is sent wall-jumping down with a pissed off Angora right behind him.
This knocks the shelf off its supports and the noise wakes up the Brown who was napping nearby.
In the rapid chase, they also somehow manage to leap up into the Brown's favorite cushion with her still in it, and the resulting three-way scrap makes the initial bout look like play.
The shelf is taken down. The Coon protests quite loudly while it happens, but the Brown is only interested in where it's going.
The Angora sulks on top of the fridge, knowing damn well he shouldn't be there, but doing it any way.
A couple of days later, there is something else where the shelf was: A bookshelf!
Contrary to last time, the Brown is much more interested in the box it came in. The packing peanuts are very fun for her.
The Angora has already perched on the very top of the bookshelf, this time with a blanket to sit on top of. The wood is quite cold.
And the Coon? The Coon is having a valiant fight with the tape stuck to the tip of his tail. He'll get it soon, don't you worry.
At some point, the Angora hops down and starts fussing with the loose paper in the cardboard box, and the other two join in to tear and shred at it until long strips that can be batted and played with remain.
And after all of that, the three cats are in a heap surrounded by their mess, cuddled up in a nice patch of sun.
The Brown is nestled in between them with the Coon curling around her and the Angora on one side and the Angora stretched around the other two on the other side.
The windows were open today, and they were going to take full advantage of it.
Enjoy these if you'd like.
