Chris and I went to one of those immersive Van Gogh events the other day. It was actually pretty interesting, despite the novelty. You really got a sense for the energy and vibrancy in Van Gogh’s soul and how desperately he wished to share that in his work. You basically go into a large room where his paintings and sketches wash over you and melt and morph and warp. It really illustrated just how many different components made up a single swatch or stroke and the minutiae and subtlety of his color choices. And then they shuffle you to a gift shop to purchase $70 hoodies and bobble heads and the moment is cheapened. But hey, that projector ain’t payin’ for itself! A holiday diorama! I had some leftover skeleton figurines from a Halloween project so I decided to use them in this: A Christmas skeleton jazz band, Nick and the Saints. An homage to jazz pianist Nick Nightengale from “Eyes Wide Shut”, one of my favorite “Christmas” films. It’s a fine line between clever and stupid, yknow, and I’m not sure which side of the line this falls on. Remodeling a 3000+ square foot house in the foothills of the mountains is a monumental task. Finishing that remodel in the remaining 24 hours before hosting a family of 18 for Thanksgiving is really pushing it. Today was spent building furniture, re-filtering the pool, laying sod, potting plants, hanging artwork, installing washers and dryers, sanding and staining a staircase, doing laundry, endless sweeping and vacuuming, and, yes, changing lightbulbs.
