For: Open ( 1/5 ) Location: Spring Fling, Performance Stage

Sabrina had been hanging out by the stage for maybe an hour or so, taking in some of the performances taking place, a cold drink in her hand. When the current act finished, she whooped and cheered, a bright smile on her face. "Loved that," she said with a soft laugh, turning to the person beside her. "The question is, what next?" She knew she couldn't stay here all day, but she was having a good go of it.

"Next is another drink, then I'm thinking maybe..." Trey mused for a moment. "Face painting? Probably not. Unless you're in. Actually, I thought about doing a bit of shopping if you want to join." He gestured in the direct of some of the booths set up with various local goods.

[joshlane]

If anyone knows how to win a dog over in a way that doesn't involve bribery... they're more than welcome to fill me in, because I don't think it exists. Understandable, I'd imagine they're a little more fun to deal with than most animals. Although a llama might take the cake! Is that the most 'unusual' animal you've treated?

[treywright]

Well, it's part of the joy of owning a working breed. You have to know how to achieve what you want with the dog with little actual reward. It's all about making them think they're getting something good. Llamas are odd, though probably some...larger birds? Like ostriches. I'm not good at birds in the first place, then you make it extra big and capable of killing a man.

"You're not wrong. I've moved enough in my life. Now's definitely the time to stay put and never leave." Even the thought of moving to a different part of town was difficult, though. To Dominic it was simply too much effort now, even if it wouldn't be the worst idea. He supposed if he met someone and they chose to create a life together, things would be different then, but for now, there was no way. "Yeah, don't tempt me with that," he responded with a light laugh. "Maybe for a special occasion."

"But did you say that every time?" Trey offered. He knew Merrock could be different, it certainly was for him, but he also knew what the urge to keep wandering was like. "Hey, people in this town have an adventurous streak, they might be willing to try some eccentric seasonal specials."

[nathanxames]

"I don't think my whole stock is enough if they want to use them for that resort," he said, tone changed slightly, not even trying to hide his annoyance. "So, don't worry, I have enough in stock for you and your future fence repair," he grinned, internally shaking that resort plan out of his mind. "It would be wise, if they want a discount," he chuckled. "But, no, that has yet to happen. I've yet to meet an individual that need that much duct tape at once. Packing tapes though, yeah."

"Would you kick them out?" Trey asked, half in earnest. He certainly would consider it in that situation, but that was a hypothetical. It was different when things were real. "Thanks, I appreciate that. My fence isn't too big, but it does house two horses, so very important." Trey picked up a small shopping basket, knowing he should consider finding the things he's come for. "Yeah, and other kinds I'm sure. In the office we go through so many supplies I wouldn't think you'd need."

That's why you're the best! Don't worry, he's been sworn to secrecy and promised pup cups if he keeps it quiet that he gets preferential treatment, I don't want to get either one of us in trouble here. Has it been pretty busy lately? Keeping you on your toes? Any fun little babies born this spring yet?

I love that you bribed him, because that's the only correct course of action there. It's been about usual, lots of goats and cows, a few horses. The horses are always my favorite. Oh! There was a llama a few weeks back which was really fun.

"Probably for the best," Nathan agreed with a chuckle. No one would really win even if someone won that bet. "Good to know. We have plenty boxes of nails, can definitely help you with that." He let out another chuckle when Trey asked who bought that many duct tapes. "No one. At most, someone would buy two. Hence, the discount offer," he grinned.

"Would be a weird thing to not have in a store like this, right?" Trey joked. "Unless they start buying up your stock to build that fancy resort." He grimaced. "I just don't see people, for instance, going in as a group to buy duct tape, though that could be wise."

I know he's not a horse or a cow, but... I need to get Toshiko in for his annual check-up pretty soon, how crazy busy has the office been this time of year? I know with everyone spending more time outdoors they normally start scrambling to get everything taken care of. Figured you were, as usual, the best guy to start with. @treywright

You know I'll always make time for your guy, he's such a good patient. Just make sure he doesn't tell all the other neighborhood dogs that he got special treatment, because they might get jealous when they hear about it.

"Would you like to bet on it?" Nathan dared but definitely wasn't being serious about it. He most definitely didn't want his dogs, or any dog for that matter, running around inside the store. "Hammer and nails, totally. You can use them to fix almost anything," he chuckled. "Duct tapes too. If you get more than five rolls, I'll give you a discount."

"No, no I do not, for the sake of you, my wallet, and everyone's sanity," Trey joked. It would end very badly, that's for sure. "I think I already have a hammer, I'm not that level of useless, but I could do with some nails, I have a fence that needs speaking." He stopped, thinking over the offer. "Who buys five rolls of duct tape?"

"Most definitely." Dom really didn't want to do any more moving around now, at least, nowhere but his hometown. It was more complicated now anyway, with having the kids, he couldn't just up and leave and head off somewhere else —- there were his main priority. Obviously, his work was important to him, but a job came second to his children. "Oh, for myself..." He chuckled. "Quite like the idea of a small farm in my backyard, loads of veggies growing. I probably would need to move out into the country if I wanted much more, though." He nodded his head simply. "That one never leaves the menu. I'd never live it down."

"And if you pack up and move, I'm sure at your age, it's gotta be for a good reason. Like I wouldn't go back to Vermont for any old reason, now. Except for maybe my family," Trey mused. But his family was large and he wasn't needed at home as much as he was needed as Merrock. "You'd be surprised what people get away with in this town, livestockwise. If people are good at tending to their animals, the neighbors don't care." He saw it time and time again in his line of work. "Well, we can't be too revolutionary, right? Especially not with the food."

"The dogs will be the only ones having fun. Myself and my customers will be panicking, half of them will be trying to catch them and the other half will be jumping out of the way." Which, if he was just imagining it, would be funny. But he really didn't want it to become a reality. Ace and Levi would just have to make do with running around in the backyard or at the park. "They don't, no. I wouldn't be a good store owner though if I don't encourage you to get something for that repair you might or might not do," he joked.

"Oh, I'm sure it isn't that bad." Trey was actually more than certain it could be. He had one dog and that one created enough chaos for a small pack of them, truth be told. "Damn, so what are you thinking for my repair that may or may not actually happen? A hammer? Some pipe? A giant pack of nails?"

alle leaned back on the building wall outside of the bar, eager for a breath of fresh air and a smoke; bartending at your own bar was a new thing, and nowhere close to the routine of a criminal lawyer, but new felt better than normal. she already felt like this life made more space for her to just be.

"okay, i don't care that you're a customer," she turned with a smile, spotting the person she served a few minutes prior. "but what you just ordered was literally an abomination."

"Was it the amount of pickle juice?" Trey asked, shooting her a grin. He adjusted his lightweight flannel, debating calling a cab rather than taking the long walk home. "Listen, I appreciate that you didn't tell me how awful it was until you weren't technically my bartender. That's very professional of you."

[nathanxames]

"It is. They get enough exercise, don't worry. Just, you know, not going to let them basically have an obstacle course exercise around the store. That will be a terrible idea," Nathan said with a chuckle and nodded as well, agreeing with what Trey was saying. "That, we do. Sometimes I just want things done, you know. But I guess as long as it's not a leaky roof when the forecast says it's gonna rain for days, it can wait."

"Aw, but where's the fun in that?" he joked. That was probably not the most customer friendly choice, even if the dog would have a good time of it. There was a time and place to prioritize the happiness of pets. "That's a good approach, most things don't need done immediately."

"Right, okay." Laughter followed and Amber rolled her eyes very playfully, casting a glance towards him. "Oh, I know, I know. I work in the hospital, of course I know. I'm just great at constantly building things up in my mind. I feel like I should have gotten over that by now, but it's not happening."

"That makes sense to me, though, if you're working at a hospital...you've seen the worst stuff out there," he agreed. It was the same with his own beloved animals, he'd seen the worst that could happen to horses or dogs or anything he's dreamed of having. "But have you seen any injuries with this this year?"

[dominicdasilva]

"It happens," answered Dominic with a chuckle, having done that with multiple people, somehow. They'd arrived while he was gone, settle into Merrock, and then by the time he'd returned, they felt more like furniture to the town than he did —- so yeah, it really did happen a lot. "No livestock as yet," he responded with a smile. "Although I am pondering some hens." He added a light shrug a moment later. "The menu's had quite the overhaul, so you're onto a winner with any of the light bites. I am particularly fond of the garlic chicken, though, one of my grandma's recipes."

"Well, you're here to stay, and that's what matters." There was something almost playfully threatening to his tone. Truthfully, people didn't seem to want to leave Merrock these days. "For yourself or for the restaurant? I'd imagine you need quite a lot to feed all of us, though. But nothing beats a fresh scramble with farm fresh eggs." Trey didn't need to raise his own birds, his clients provided him with a dozen here and there for excellent services. "Oh, that's a classic, eh? I'll have to come back and give something else a try next time."

"Let's hope you don't need to switch to these for your dog," she paused and made another face for even having the thought. "Figured I could be useful with clearing out what I know doesn't belong in here. For all I know the stuff you're pulling up could be some rare plant that's been there for a hundred years." Maybe she was exaggerating more than a tad.

"If I did, I'd be in big trouble. Or I'd worry he got swapped up with a cow which...still mostly unlikely." Though not impossible, in a way. "It could be, but most likely it's just weeds or maybe some mint that's gotten out of hand." He nodded, kicking at an offensive bit of weed. "I think people who know plants review the area pretty well."

While she might not have a green thumb in terms of gardening, it didn't mean Jasmine couldn't still help out at the community garden. She scrunched up her nose as she held a piece of trash away from her before dropping it in a trash bag. "Hey," she said to the person nearest her, "you happen to have another one of these?" referencing the bag.

"I do actually," Trey said, slowly rising from where he was attending to some weeds around a raised bed. "I am used to the doggy waste bags, but this was an easy switch." He rolled out a trash bag for her, handing it over. "Brave of you to take on trash duty."
