Disorders: Insomnia, Night Terrors and Delusional Stress Disorder
Charlotte grew up in a small town and never really spent a lot of time with other kids. Only child to a wealthy family, who had gotten their money from oil work, most people would think she was a spoiled little rich girl. The reality of the fact? She had been born with a physical deformity that caused vision problems. By the time she turned eight, her vision was completely gone.
So when she claimed to start 'seeing' imaginary friends, her parents were understandably concerned. They refused to take her to the doctor, though, thinking she was just blessed with an incredibly gifted imagination. They wanted to keep her a secret to avoid turning her life into a publicly known affair. She rarely left her room and when she did, it was under supervision of the maids who worked for the family. When she turned sixteen, they were no longer needed around the house.
By then, her parents were never home and she spent weeks in the house alone, wandering around and talking to her imaginary friends. To her, they weren't imaginary, though. And as she grew older, the visions grew darker. One day, she woke up to a message on the voice mail. Her parents were never coming home. They had left her an account with enough money to last her until she turned twenty – but until then, she was alone.
She began to have nightmares that left her in a cold sweat, screaming at the top of her lungs. No one was there to save her, though. She spent four years, slowly unravelling in her mental state and rarely leaving the house. She had no idea how to, after all. When the letter arrived, delivered by a staff member of the TRI himself, she was weary, but accepted, knowing she would soon run out of money and most likely die.
She's never been institutionalized before and her mental state never underwent any therapy. She hopes for a better future, but so far, everyone in her life has abandoned her, so she distrusts the people at the TRI.
