itās a pretty well-known phenomenon that you only get a couple seconds with your horror creature fully visible onscreen before it gets āchuckied,ā a term coined by yours truly referring to the shift between the first and second acts of childās play (1988) as the audience gets used to seeing the little chucky puppet moving around and consequently can no longer buy into the filmās serious slasher tone in the absence of the horror of the unknown. the tuunbaq in the terror and the dogomorph in alien 3 (1992) are also famous victims of chuckyingājust like how lovecraftian horror usually falls flat on the screen, too much visibility and your scary, amorphous creature will become a very morphous puppet or cgiād in picture. the easiest way to combat this is of course to keep the creature obscured for as much of the piece as possible; for instance, despite their oppressive presence throughout their respective works, the beast in over the garden wall is shown for less than six frames and the eponymous kaiju of cloverfield (2008) is never properly shown, allowing each to retain their mystery and danger. another route is to simply lean into the campiness of it, like the later childās play franchise and alien resurrection (1997). in the case of the blob (1958) a mere satirical title sequence song is enough to completely transform a fairly standard creature feature into an enduring masterpiece of hokey fun. the third option to combat chuckying is for the horror creature to constantly transformāthe thing (1982), the fly (1986), and aliens (1986) show their creatures in loving detail, but there is always something the audience hasnāt seen yet, something they donāt know to brace themselves for. itās a fine line to walk, of course, but thatās the nature of the game when you want to turn the concept of the unknown into something knowable enough to bite you
"Mirkwood would judge Legolas so hard for Gimli-" Wrong. Gimly has consistently charmed the pants off every single elf he's come across. The elves of Lothlorien went from wanting to kick him out to loving him in like 2 days. He's Galadriel's special little guy. My man is out there singlehandedly tearing down centuries of prejudice because he's just so damn charming. When he was nearing the end, he didn't even go to Durin's halls - he just went with Legolas to the undying lands so he could hang out with elves for the rest of time. Gimli would have Thranduil and the rest of the elves of Mirkwood wrapped around his dwarven finger in a week's time. Ideal son in law except for the beard.
is this not what happened?
pop health science is so annoying bc it'll be like "did you know? eating strawberries will give you mega cancer" and you're like pfft whatever begone influencer. but sometimes then you'll see a reasonably credible article like "Study Shows Possible Link Between Strawberries and Mega Cancer" and you're not usually the type to follow that kind of thing religiously but idk maybe you should consider not eating strawberries? but then there's another article saying "Strawberry/Mega Cancer Study Debunked" and it turns out the original study had a sample size of 3 and was funded by Big Blueberry, and strawberries may have a small connection to mega cancer but only if you are genetically predisposed to mega cancer and eat 50 strawberries every day. so you return to your strawberry eating life. but whenever you eat strawberries in public someone tells you about the mega cancer.

Oh are there people who don't know this mess of a movie has the all time most spectacular final wizard battle in the fantasy genre??
I cant tell you how many times I watched this movie as a small child
Hereās the thing. Refusing to accept a compliment can be mildly insulting to the person youāre refusing the compliment from.
Itās like you donāt believe them or donāt respect their opinion basically.
I know, I also have self esteem so low that accepting a compliment feels physically painful but basically calling the person whoās complimenting you a liar doesnāt help anybody including yourself.

it's really funny how nonexistent the apple tv+ marketing budget is like "hmm today i will drop some of the best shit on television and not tell a single soul about it. if you want to know about this show you'll just need to have a tumblr mutual who got apple tv+ cheap through their ISP"
