Perhaps it slips your mind that the crowds you see in this picture are not returning to anything. Our homes and streets no longer exist. Everything has turned into emptiness, rubble upon sand. All that remains are the photos we carry in our memories and a bit of love we’ve tucked deep inside our hearts, to nurture our children with, a love for the soil that knows our faces and our souls well.

We are not returning to houses, but to resist all this injustice, to rebuild, to plant, and to light up our homeland anew. We walk tens of kilometers, carried by longing, not by strength.

And now, as we hear news that the crossing between Gaza and Egypt may soon reopen, at first only for the wounded and urgent cases, we hold onto a fragile hope. Until our turn comes, we must prepare. We need support to recover from this war, to gather what little we can for the journey, and to simply survive each day here in Gaza.

Mahrah sent me this image today over Signal with the words "One of the targets close to us today." This photo makes my heart drop into my stomach. The bombings are so close to her and her family.

@mahrahpalestine tells me that of all the days of this war, today has been the most difficult day for the people in Al-Shati Camp and Al-Nasr neighborhood. An unthinkable number of homes and tents were bombed.

Israel is dropping flyers notifying people their homes will be bombed to rubble and they must move south. Palestinians bring all their supplies south and there is no land available to set up their tents. Thousands of families are returning to Gaza City, returning to constant bombings. There are no options that offer safety. No one knows what to do.

Earlier today Reuters publishes an article titled "With nowhere else to shelter, Palestinians displaced in Gaza return to a city under Israeli assault."

In this article, Ahmed Abu Deya, a displaced man pushing a cart loaded with his family's belongings, is quoted saying: "We are returning back on foot. Some people go to their relatives or someone else who booked a spot for them. We don't have any land, any tent, even the basic life necessities. I don't even have water."

Genocidal violence surrounds them and is closing in around them quickly. There are no answers. There are no good options. Everyone is doing the best they can.

The people of Gaza are living painful, terrifying lives with no clear path to relief or safety.

Many people are willing to help someone if they believe that there is a clear number of steps to take where an end point is reached, and then the person does not need support anymore. But when they encounter people who they cannot save, who need support and community indefinitely, they balk.

You must resist this impulse. If you cannot find ways to be comfortable talking to scared, struggling, traumatized people, you will start to justify ignoring them to yourself, and if you do this long enough you will dehumanize them.

You must be able to stay with people and offer every resource you can reasonably extend. That is what it takes to be in solidarity with people in traumatic, ongoing crisis.

It literally makes me feel like I'm losing my mind that almost no one in the global north on here will speak about, or even react to, the fact that the US is literally funding Israeli owned death traps for starving families.

The United States and Israel have made it impossible for all actual aid to enter Gaza. Then, private contractors from the United States created the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF), with Israeli support, to "take over" aid distribution. They are preventing aid distribution by all humanitarian groups in Gaza that distribute aid in coordination with the U.N., and replacing them with GHF. These GHF sites are set up in collaboration with Israeli military to lure in starving families and gun them down.

I've been pretty absent from my Tumblr this year, because for the past 8 months I've been working on this game with my friends in the animation industry!!! 💖

I don't usually talk too much about myself on here but I've been working as a professional animator since I graduated college almost 5 years ago :') It's been really tough to do so the past couple of years with mass layoffs and AI hitting the industry hard. A lot of my friends, me included, have struggled to find stable jobs, and places that are hiring have increasingly taken advantage of people's desperation to lower wages and use exploitative labor practices.

So...we decided to try starting our very own, worker-owned indie game studio! This past year we've been pouring our hearts into this little hand drawn cozy horror game that's inspired by some of our personal stories of growing up in difficult households as well as our love for picture book illustrations and traditional animation.

There are many, many people who no longer care about the Palestinian issue and the Gaza war, as if it has become from another world or as if we are not human beings like you.
