wanting is deeply humiliating so ive decided that i dont need anything ever again
show this to ur friends w no context
As if theirs some context that could explain this.
Lemme just drop this onto the conveyor belt of your dashboard
“Shut it! I’m a demon, I’m not nice.”
So when YOU sew a bunch of unmatched parts together, it is “a quilt” and “a beautiful gift” and “will assuredly become a family heirloom” but when I sew a bunch of unmatched parts together it is “A MONSTER” and “AN ABOMINATION, AN AFFRONT TO THE GODS” and goes on “A MURDEROUS KILLING SPREE.”
Well MAYBE if you BOTHERED TO NAME HIM or I don’t know, DIDN’T BECOME DEATHLY ILL FROM THE SIGHT OF HIM MOVING we wouldn’t HAVE THIS PROBLEM
these are my parents talking to each other about me
I love her.
Current mood: Aloy
Aloy appreciation post (2/∞) - Let’s get down to business!
Aloy is touch-starved
Rost did not show Aloy physical affection. If you look at their interactions, he only touches her when there’s a purpose. To lift her up, to clean her wound, to cover her with a blanket. He gives her a kind pat on the shoulder after she saves Teb, but this is actually the only time I saw him touch her intending to comfort. Even if it was genuine on Rost’s part, one can see how easy it would be for Aloy to read this as a reward for saving Teb’s life.
In her training when she falls, Rost extends his hand to her as an offer to help and she rejects it, because she’s learned that touch is a sign of weakness, since touch is only something that’s done when you are unable to do something yourself. She’s independent, she’s strong, she doesn’t need it.
[screenshot of Rost extending a hand to young Aloy as she dangles off a platform]
When he leaves her at Mother’s Heart, she follows after him, and you can clearly see that she wants to grab ahold of him but she doesn’t.
[screenshot of Rost turning away from Aloy as she follows after him, holding her hands clutched loosely out towards him]
Like. Look at her hands. She’s desperate in this scene, she’s saying goodbye to the only person she knows, but she still pauses and doesn’t grab ahold of him. That’s absolutely devastating to me. She does not understand that it’s normal for family/friends to hug, kiss, hold hands, etc. She deserves to touch him in this scene and she just…doesn’t.
And the one time Rost does touch her affectionately? Finally holds her in his arms? They’re both dying, and it’s the last time Aloy ever sees him. And she reaches for him as he blows up and she’s falling off a mountain.
[screenshot of Aloy falling through snowy air, hands reaching up]
No one else fills this role for her. No one physically comforts her. Teersa could have, but she didn’t. If Sylens wasn’t an asshole, he also could’ve, but of course he’s Sylens. In all honesty this is why I was so frustrated with Sylens, because Aloy desperately needed a parent and he was just so…disinterested in her.
I honestly think this is part of why she wanted to find her mother so badly (at least, subconsciously). Yes, she wanted to know why she was cast out because that fucked up her entire life, but also she desperately wanted someone to fill that role, because Rost (as wonderful as he was) just couldn’t.
But Elisabet’s just a hologram. A dead hologram. Please look at how she reaches for Elisabet because it actually causes me physical pain.
[screenshot of Aloy reaching out for Elisabet’s hologram, set towards the beginning of the game]
[screenshot of Aloy reaching out for Elisabet’s large holographic form, set at the end of the game]
I also think this is part of the reason why Aloy was so upset about the Nora treating her as their anointed and bowing to her, because that’s the opposite of what she wants/needs, even if she doesn’t know it. To her it’s the same thing as being an outcast. The label means she’s still separate from them, something not to be touched (even if it’s for better reasons this time) and she has every right to be upset.
When Aloy is touched by allies in the game, it’s very briefly, and usually for a purpose.
[screenshot of Jezza and Teersa resting their hands on Aloy as they anoint her a seeker]
[screenshot of Aloy lying on the ground, Teb kneeling beside her and gently touching her]
[screenshot of Erend resting a hand on Aloy’s shoulder]
For most of the game, however, Aloy is touched by enemies. And good lord. She’s hit, laughed at, strangled, stabbed, shot. She literally. Just. Doesn’t. Know. That touch can be a good and positive thing. All the shit with Helis? I could write an entire post just on how traumatized Aloy is. Like. My girl. My poor girl.
[screenshot of Helis clutching Aloy by the face]
So let’s talk about Gildun! Incase you don’t know, he’s an NPC you encounter on a Frozen Wilds side quest. Kinda random, right? But Aloy’s reactions to the way Gildun touches her is actually really interesting. Gildun grabs Aloy’s wrists out of excitement.
[screenshot of Gildun clutching Aloy’s wrists, caption on screen reads “Two sets of hands, girl! Two sets of hands!”]
And oh. my. god. Just look at her face. Like. She’s shocked and disgusted and surprised at the sudden physical contact because she’s not used to it!
[screenshot of Aloy looking disgusted, confused, upset]
But about two seconds later she’s smiling! Like! That’s how little time it takes her to get over this!
[screenshot of Aloy with a more relaxed expression than the last]
At the end of the quest Gildun knocks her playfully without warning. She’s surprised but she doesn’t flinch outside of recovering from the hit. She doesn’t try to fight back. She smiles. Part of this could be because he’s complimenting her, but I mean, come on. Look how happy she is.
[screenshot of Aloy and Gildun, Aloy is smiling and Gildun is yelling.]
In conclusion: we need more NPCs like Gildun who show Aloy physical affection and Aloy needs a thousand hugs. Feel free to add more examples, I know there’s things I missed.
Disclaimer: I love Rost so much this is not me dragging Rost and it’s also not his fault that he was the only person in Aloy’s life. He did his best. This is not me dragging Rost, don’t ever accuse me of not loving Rost with my whole heart.
ᴀʟᴏʏ ᴀᴘᴘʀᴇᴄɪᴀᴛɪᴏɴ 𝟷/?
So I realised something today.
This, in voltron canon, is what an all-powerful, all-knowing interdimensional being looks like:
(No, I don’t mean a goofy looking alien, but the way he appears in the stars.)
And this is what we see at the very end of s8:
I have no doubt that that’s Allura. Since she recreated every reality, she became one of these all-knowing beings. Essentially, a god. So basically (and nothing can really disprove this seeing as voltron is finished lol) Allura might have sacrificed herself, but she’s still out there. Maybe not doing weird game shows in people’s minds but… she’s not gone.
I’m not at all saying that her dying was a good thing, or that I liked it in any way, just that realising this gave me a little more closure with voltron and how it ended.
I actually think they did a really good job with alluras death (besides the fact the coran didn’t get to say goodbye I will never recover from that)
But this actually made me cry so hard, they showed how much they all care about her and how she cares about them.
I will never get over Hunk saying, “But there is no Voltron without you.” Because seeing the joyful character sad is one of the saddest things ever.
And how alluras voice cracked saying goodbye to pidge and Pidge saying she’d miss her after the bonding they got this season was so heartbreaking.
Just everything about this makes me so sad.
So sad.
Her saying I love you to him for the first time was really powerful no matter what you ship.
AND EVERYONE WAS THERE. I can’t stop crying oh man lotor was there and they all got redemption and her father was there and she’ll see her mother too I’m crying for coran right now he was so good to her.
Anyway I think this was a really good ending even though my ship didn’t become canon I can still aprreciate a good goodbye scene and this was one of them I’m crying so much
“The stars, the moon, they have all been blown out
You left me in the dark”
Voltron Legendary Defender.
I got a bone to pick with this fandom. Ya’ll are SO quick to say a season is bad just because you didn’t get your way, whether you wanted the plot to go in a different direction or you wanted a different ship. But it ultimately isn’t your show. If you don’t like the show then don’t watch it, but if you’re going to, DON’T ruin it for other people. VLD is a show about war, yes, but at the root it is about Family, Friendship, Hope, and Courage. Do not betray that by being a toxic fan.
Now about season 8
(Spoilers Ahead)
Lance’s character was not screwed over.
Lance and Allura’s relationship, despite popular belief, had been growing since season 1 of the show.
Lance and Allura made each other better. Its not that they got absorbed in each other, they had to be there for each other.
Lance has an absolutely fantastic epilogue for him. He now spends time with his family on his family’s farm, who he has missed since the beginning of the show.
He is spreading Allura’s message and educating younger generations. He is making a difference.
And no, he did not necessarily change races. He literally just has marks on his face. He’s still Cuban, always have been, always will be.
Lance over the course of the series has become more confident and more trusting of other people. He doesn’t need to flirt to gain attention anymore. He doesn’t seem to need attention anymore to completely boost his self esteem. He knows better now, he’s grown and become a stronger, better person.
Allura is still strong representation for POC Girls.
I understand the frustration of seeing yet another strong POC die on screen, trust me I get it. But.
Allura did not die a victim. She did not die in pain. She died a true hero. She saved all life, everywhere.
Her entire character is strength. No matter what it is, she pulls through and sets things right.
Allura was an educator, a diplomat, family, friend, lover, warrior, and hero. If that isn’t worth looking up to, then I don’t know what is.
Allura’s development was absolutely golden. She started as a confused girl who was mourning the loss of her family and planet. She rarely fought, not that she didn’t know how but no lion had accepted her at the time. She was alone and knew little about Altean alchemy. But she grew to become a Paladin. She found her new family while reuniting with her old family. She found someone who she could always rely upon, someone who loved her unconditionally. She was accepted into Oriande and gained incredible magical strength. And she became a hero who saved Every. Single. Reality.
Shiro has always been good LGBT+ representation.
Understand all that Shiro has gone through. He nearly died of disease, he got abducted, he lost his arm, he actually DIED and was cloned, and he lost his fiance to the war.
Also understand who Shiro is. He is a disabled gay Asian man.
However, none of that has made him weak. He has always been revered as incredibly strong, possibly stronger than the entire team.
Shiro is a leader, a teacher, a brother, a friend, and now a husband. There is absolutely nothing he cannot do. I am glad that he represents how strong an LGBT character can be, and paves the way for other shows to create more powerful LGBT characters.
Hunk was not just reduced to food.
I understand perfectly well that constantly food and fat jokes are annoying.
However, Hunk’s connection to food wasn’t just through his stomach. It was conveyed several times that he uses food to bring people together. Certain foods reminds him of his family, which made him happy. And now he is using his incredible chef skills to also serve as a diplomat.
Not to mention, Hunk is incredibly strong. Just like Keith said, Hunk was always the most scared but he NEVER backed down.
He fights just as hard as the other paladins. He is the leg of Voltron, he holds them up and gives Voltron strength and support. It’s not a role that just anyone could handle.
All in all, Hunk is an extremely sweet, strong, and powerful character.
Should I even have to explain why Pidge is incredible?
Katie Holt was dauntless throughout the entire series.
Just for a recap, she changed her entire persona just to save her family, picked up alien radio chatter from a device she built HERSELF, she became a Paladin of Voltron, she single handedly saved her brother, and with his and the Paladins’ assistance, she saved her father.
She gained intelligence everywhere she went, and has saved the team from total destruction DOZENS of times.
She is still defending the universe within her epilogue without actually being behind the controls of the Green Lion.
Keith probably had the best development out of ALL of the characters within the series.
Keith began as an insecure, knee-jerk emo kid who had lost his mother, father, AND brother figure stuck in the desert all by himself. He had no family, nobody to trust, and nobody to take care of him.
However, Keith was able to forge his own destiny. He gained a new family within the Voltron team. He found Shiro. He even found his mother. He grew stronger and learned to accept himself, even with the Galra blood within him.
He learned how to become a true leader, and think with his head rather on his feet.
At the end of the day, he learned how to trust and create life long bonds.
Within his epilogue, he is still helping the universe by providing aid wherever needed. He turned the Blade of Marmora from a group of space rebels into a relief provider.
Not to mention, he helped to reunite the Galra Empire under peace, not war.
And For All Of The Disappointed Klance Stannies….
Understand that it was Never. Going. To. Happen.
Keith started WAYY too untrusting to be in a relationship. He could barely handle friendships at first, nonetheless romantic relationships.
Keith and Lance’s relationship is much more than a yaoi fanfiction fantasy that the fandom is trying to create. They are confidants and make each other stronger when they need it most. They started as enemies, and now they have an incredibly strong friendship. That in itself is enough for me.
None of their interactions can really be seen as romantic. The bonding moment? Didn’t really happen. Keith never “cradled” Lance in his arms. He helped him up. Lance going to Keith for advice? Did I mention that they’re confidants? Also that they are friends? And that Keith is their leader? Lance should be able to trust Keith. He should be able to ask him for advice.
The show is not a bad show. If you keep a tunnel vision, ship driven view of the show then OF COURSE you will dislike it. Voltron is not necessarily about romance. You should appreciate the show for its characters, its plot and its message.
Ship what you want, but attacking people over it when you don’t get your way is NOT the way to go about it. It’s not fair to the fans who just want to enjoy the show, and its especially unfair to the people who put their blood, sweat, and tears into making this show.
All in all, the team behind VLD took a cheesey 80’s kids cartoon that was basically made to sell toys and gave it meaning. Gave it life. Gave it a story. Made something entirely new. Broke boundaries. Made people smile. Made a difference.
Thank you, Voltron Legendary Defender. I will truly miss this show.
