Hello all,

It’s been a little while since I last wrote anything. That’s because I’ve been busy preparing new content and getting my life together so you all can see that content!

Some of you may know that New York Fashion Week (NYFW) occurred September 8-14th this year. Oh joy that was my first week of classes!…I’m sure many of you have heard about what when on with the main showcases (insert Marc Jacobs gossip here). But there were quite a few shows happening in other areas of Lower Manhattan as well and I was lucky enough to attend two of those shows.

The first, of which you can see on my photography page, featured a diverse collection of designers from all over and was presented by PLITZS Marketing. The second show…it’s not enough to call StylePointe a “show”, it was more of a “performance exhibition”, was a beautiful collaboration of arts.

The exhibition involved a showing of fashion in which the models were dancing and the form was pointe dance. I thought it was a wonderful idea to have these two arts meet. If you’re a lover of fashion like I am, you may pay attention here-and-there to the costume choices made by stylists for movies, musicals, operas, etc. However, focusing on those aspects make me feel guilty at times because I am not as focused as I feel I should be on the actors. StylePointe gave me the opportunity to focus on the art of dance as well as the style of the costumes. Some of the dances were repetitive which allowed viewers to appreciate the choreography and still be able to think about how the designers made certain decisions regarding what may be practical for a dancer to wear. I was amazed at how well the choreographers utilized the runway, dancers alternating the usage as well as going in pairs and sometimes groups. Of course not everything went so smoothly, some choreography didn’t include an exact procedure for getting of the runway so many dancers simply stepped on and off. This may have been the reason why the skill of some of the dancers weren’t well displayed.

What I liked the most about this mix of styles, was the fact that the dancing allowed you to see more parts of the garment than would a single walk down the runway. It also gave an attitude to the pieces that models are either not told to convey or fail to. The dancers also seemed well paired to the clothing and the dances.
