The idea at the centre of anarchism is the elimination of violence from society, the organization of social relations based on individualsâ free will, without the intervention of the gendarme. So we are enemies of capital which, relying on police protection, forces the workers to let themselves be exploited by those who hold the means of production, or even to remain idle and starve when the bosses have no incentive to exploit them.
We are enemies of the State, therefore, which is the coercive, i.e. violent, organization of society. But if a gentleman says that he believes it is stupid and cruel to argue with blows and that it is unfair and evil to force one to do the will of another at gunpoint, it is perhaps reasonable to infer that this gentleman will let himself get beaten and submit to the will of others without resorting to the most extreme means of defence?
Violence is only justifiable when it is necessary to defend oneself and others against violence. Where need ends crime begins ... The slave is always in a state of legitimate self-defence and so his violence against the boss, against the oppressor, is always morally justifiable and should only be adjusted by the criterion of utility and economy of human effort and human suffering.

Companies donât care about queer people, they care about money, always have always will. The pride flags they put on their logos and then remove as soon as the month is over mean nothing. Smash capitalism. Be queer strike fear.

Tbh this is fast becoming the case in the UK too. There are so many places where it's literally impossible to register with an NHS dentist, whole counties where none are taking on new patients.
I know people who haven't seen a dentist in years, and yes, if it's absolutely awful, you can get hospital treatment, but for e.g. A cosmetic chip that maybe makes it difficult to eat? You're shit out of luck.
This is an especially bad issue when there isn't access to clean water and people have to rely on corporate monopolies making drinks that cause tooth decay *cough cough Coca Cola*
May 13, 2021 - Immigration cops tried to arrest two men in Glasgow, Scotland, on the day of Eid. A huge crowd of locals in the area of Pollokshields, chanting âthese are our neighbours, let them go!â, turned up and boxed the police van in for seven hours, withstanding attempts by police to break through the crowd, until the cops were forced to let the two men go. [video]/[article]
WHAT A FUCKING RESULT!!!
Yes Kenmuir street! Damn I miss living in the South Side
If you see an immigration van anywhere in Glasgow, the number to phone is 0141 427 7992
âfree Palestineâ and âdonât use whatâs happening to Palestinians as an excuse to spread anti-Semitismâ can and should co-exist
spreading hate to jewish people as a response to the actions of the israeli government isnât woke, it just makes you anti-semitic. you can be critical of the israeli government and not be anti-semitic
As a Palestinian, honestly, a ton of non-Palestinians join the movement as an excuse to be antisemitic and I DON'T WANT Y'ALL SPEAKING FOR ME.
y'know as shitty as Biden is, If Trump were in office right now he'd be actively encouraging Isr*elis to ethnically cleanse Palestinians right as we speak.
is that really any different than not issuing a statement and quietly giving Israel billions of dollars in military aid? like sure rhetoric matters but when the outcome is the same you canât just say itâs an improvement
I think Iâm going to stop reblogging those âhalf the worldâs wealth is owned by like 7 peopleâ posts. Not because theyâre not vaguely accurate, but because theyâre too often mis-interpreted as describing a problem (7 evil dudes) instead of describing a symptom of the actual problem (capitalism).
Truth is, 7 people are not our problem and we canât solve our problems by killing 7 people. Gloriously entertaining as that might be.
If we could kill the 7 richest people of the world, capitalism would survive. If we could kill them and appropriate all their wealth and somehow distribute that equally across the workers of the world, weâd have a very chaotic period of hyperinflation and shifting balances of power but capitalism would probably survive that too.
And if the richest 7 people of the world would be visited by the ghost of Christmas and suddenly became the 7 most charitable people on earth, capitalism would survive that too. Because most of the wealth of these rich bastards is not in their bank accounts as disposable income, itâs in the imagined value of their companies. And the moment theyâd stop prioritizing profit, that imagined wealth would vanish as investors flocked to the stocks of different bastards and the imagined wealth of those different companies would rise. In the face of the systems of capitalism, these people are not actually as powerful as they imagine themselves to me. If theyâd stop serving profit, theyâd lose most of their power.
So yeah, we need system change.
And like⌠one of the reasons I think it is important to talk about this is because âA few evil people secretly hold all the power and if we just killed them all the worldâs problems would be solvedâ is at the core of most conspiracy theories, from The Protocols of the Elders of Zion all the way to QAnon. Itâs the same story over and over and whenever these kinds of theories spread, minorities pay the price.
And when âA few evil people secretly hold all the power and if we just killed them all the worldâs problems would be solvedâ sounds vaguely intuitively true to people who have heard something similar on a leftist blog⌠those people are a little more receptive to those conspiracy theories. So maybe itâs not something we should be implying?
People say âJudeo-Christianâ when they mean âChristian, specificallyâ but they feel like throwing in a little irrelevant antisemitism just to be random
Iâve been trying to understand this post but I canât, can someone explain this to me?
I believe this person knows what theyâre talking about I just donât get it
Basically, thereâs no good reason to use Judeo-Christian to describe anything except maybe a person raised in an interfaith household of those two religions. When people use Judeo-Christian they pretty much always are using it in one of two ways: to talk about something that applies only to Christianity (example Iâve seen: âJudeo-Christian concept of Hell,â which doesnât exist in Judaism), or using it to talk about something that doesnât only apply to Judaism and Christianity and also applies to other religions with some source material in common (which all of us then proceed to interpret very differently anyway).
So, itâs pretty much always being used either by someone who thinks theyâre talking about a belief of ours but theyâre at best ignorant and at worst bigoted (depends on the intentions).
Or itâs being used on purpose by Christians who are trying to use us as a shield, because if they can get us associated with each other then they can call it antisemitic if thereâs criticism of them of whatever theyâre talking about.
So yeah, in simpler terms itâs used by people who either know better than to use it but are using it anyway (bad) or donât know better than to use it but are talking with confidence and authority about something as potentially serious and personal as religion/culture that they donât know anything about (also bad).
Does that help?
ooh, ok
now it makes sense why people were saying it was made to exclude Islamic faith, from what I got, thereâs no way to use it that isnât exclusive or ignorant.
it did help, I think i get it now. thank you for the patience
for sure! mutual of mine also made a point i hadnât thought about here, about the potential harm that could come from implying that weâre a larger/more influential group than we are by associating us with Christianity.
no worries, have a good day & thank you for listening!
All of this is very accurate and important.
An addition:
A lot of people on the right an far-right also use âJudeo-Christianâ as code for ânot Muslimâ. When a politician says some bullshit like âWe are a Judeo-Christian cultureâ, they donât mean âwe value the heritage of Jewish peopleâ (they donât, see all the above), they mean âweâre a culture in which there is no place for Islamâ.Â
So the concept of âJudeo-Christianâ is both antisemitism and islamophobia, as so many things said on the right and far-right are.
OK, imma need an European pov here (as opposed to American). I didnât register âjudeo-christian cultureâ is also a way to exclude Islam but it makes sense. What Iâve been taught is that itâs not only a Christian culture as in New Testament only. Like the âjudeoâ part relates to the Old Testament. And I say taught but as an historian, itâs also Iâve read it. The entire Middle Age is being a nerd about both the Old and the New Testament.
So actually, itâs more of a Jewish pov Iâm looking for I guess: whatâs your stance on that? Do we keep the âOld Testament is Jewish and only a inheritance for the Christiansâ or do you consider our Old Testament to be nothing like the Torah?
Hi hi, I am a European actually, and I wrote my reply very much with European conservatives and far-right politicians in mind.
Since you reference history, it is worth noting that during the Middle Ages most of those Christian Old & New Testament nerds were deeply antisemitic. Nobody at that time identified their own culture as âJudeo-Christianâ and if you would have suggested that to a medieval Christian they would probably be very insulted. The phrase âjudeo-christian cultureâ saw almost no use before 1945, when open antisemitism became somewhat less popular for obvious reasons.
As for the Old Testament: Iâm not Jewish, but this is so basic that I can safely repeat the basics for you and save some Jewish person the work of having to educate more people on this 101 stuff:
No, the Old Testament is not the same as the Torah. The Torah is only the first 5 books that are also in the Old Testament. The larger writing are known as the Tanakh. The Tanakh has similarities with the Old Testament but is also not identical. Itâs not all the same stories, not all in the same order, and has gone through a different tradition of preservation and interpretation.
Neither the Torah nor the Tanakh serves the same function of âOne True religious textâ in Judaism that the Bible does in Christianity. There is a much larger collection of Jewish religious texts and commentaries of religious texts. If you wanna know about them all, start with the wikipedia page: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Judaism#Jewish_religious_texts
So the idea that the Old and New Testament together are somehow âJudeo-Christianâ is very inaccurate and ignores pretty much the entire history of Jewish religious writing. Itâs part of the âWe can treat Jewish people as âsemi-Christianâ when it suits us and we do not need to do our homeworkâ mindset that makes the concept of âJudeo-Christianâ so antisemitic.
Hospitals are struggling for nurses right now because people are leaving the profession entirely or leaving for temporary travel contract positions that pay well. They have been treated poorly, underpaid for the work they do, and inadequately protected this year, and theyâre done.
My brother in law said theyâre advertising for a position in his normal unit, offering twice his salary. But they wonât offer him extra to stay after risking his life working in the COVID unit for months, so heâs out. Itâs absolutely insulting, and so many industries are going to have a major reckoning coming up.
My father retired early because they refused to hire just one person to help with the work load. They had to hire 5 people to replace him.
This is a common occurrence amongst his retired coffee group.
One lady was a head nurse that ran two floor at her hospital. They wanted her to take on more work. She agreed to do so oy if they gave her a small raise and hired an assistant for her. They refused so she retired early. They had to replace her with 20 people.
You are NOT replaceable!!! They tell you this to make you complacent to their exploration of you.
Fun fact! This sort of reckoning happened after the Black Plague, also! I'm no historian, (and history side of tumblr, please come in with the accuracy) but I did look into the history of the Black Plague for writing purposes, and in that case, it was because there were so few people left that peasants started agitating for better treatment and fairer wages, and because there were so few people who could do the work they had been doing that they were able to gain better wages and better hours. Historically, the labour shortage created by pandemics means a heightened bargaining capacity for workers of all sorts - an if there was ever a time to take advantage of knowing history, it's now. Because the thing is, in these "unprecedented times" there are precedents, and the precedent leans toward workers. During the Black Death, villages emptied, fields were left, and people migrated to find work that paid them better and offered a better way of life. Wages for lower-class workers rose drastically. In Oxfordshire; a plowman who had earned two shillings per week before the plague could command 10 shillings per week afterward. Pay rates for artisans increased, too. In Paris, wages for masons quadrupled between 1351 and 1355.
This isn't to say that the elites just let this happen, either. Laws were passed to limit wage increases, and threats were made, but the workers had economic bargaining power on their side. Labour was in such short supply that employers and landlords had to take what they could get. The people held out - and so can (and should!) YOU.
This was the start of peasant revolts, popular rebellions, and - ultimately, more labour protections, political representation for the lower classes, lower taxes, and an end to serfdom. People could afford to own their own land, the feudal system vanished, and eventually, the Renaissance would rise. In these unprecedented times, there is a precedent, and that precedent is that when workers know their worth, agitate for better and for more, when they hold out and unite, they force the elites to loosen the reigns, giving more power, autonomy, rights, and profits back into the hands of the workers, and with that freedom, society improves.
Know your worth. Know that you have bargaining power. Let's make this pandemic part of the precedent. <3

The mortality percentages are very different and not every region is having a labor shortage right now, so this doesnât map unto the present perfectly, but itâs an interesting point nonetheless.
