minor chapter 3+4 spoilers (very minimal)
In the room south of the green room after the second board there is an Npc that’ll talk about what the dark world was before the theater, before it “existed” because of the fountain. They say, and quote
“In the once upon a time, there was a land like purple cliffs”
“A frozen waste, watery basin, a metal desert.”
NOW CALL ME FUCKING CRAZY, BUT THOSE PLACES SOUND FAMILIAR, DONT THEY?
It’s crazy to say that these places directly reflect places in undertale and I thought I was crazy as well however the order in which they’re presented are ALSO additionally in the same chronological order that they are presented in undertale and HAGDKEHJDB
Purple cliffs (as seen in chapter 1 beginning): the ruins
A frozen waste (as seen in chapter 3 the “cold place”): snowdin
A watery basin (not seen yet): Waterfall
A metal desert (not seen yet):
Hotland
my final thoughts on the matter? It was my theory first, I call dibs. Additionally, perhaps the underground is simply darkness un-referenced to any preexisting setting. ADDITIONALLY ADDITIONALLY, in undertale food there is not referred to as anything “real”, it’s made of magic, like everything else. This is taken by Npcs in undertale who ask the player about human food and are baffled by the fact that it goes through the body. THIS PARALLELS the dark world food not meaning anything and assumably being made only of “magic”. It’s implied by Noelle in chapter two (I think..? Don’t quote me on when.) that magic doesn’t exist in the “light world”, where Noelle says to her father something along the lines of “—where everything could be healed with a little spell” leading me to believe that the existence of magic in undertale by the ability of the monsters implies its connection to dark worlds.
