I WAS THINKING THE SAME THING!!
You know the chained door in Jax’s mind we never got to see? (At least I’m 99% sure it’s different than the locked door in the break room) It may have been the Ragatha door! We saw every other character (except Kinger, but I think Jax was only focused on the female characters +Zooble) except Jax’s view of Ragatha.
Door one: Ragatha abstracts, Pomni’s ‘I can fix you’, Sadistic Jax
Door two: Zooble abstracts, Gangle’s “I hate you”, Maid Jax
Door three: Gangle abstracts, Zooble’s “You killed the only person I’ve ever loved”, Cartoon Jax
Then, in the breakroom, we see all the aspects of Jax together, PLUS: Piano Jax. I think Piano Jax is from the chained door.
Chained Door: Pomni Abstracts, Ragatha from Jax’s perspective, Piano Jax.
We never got to see it, BUT we DO know a lot about Jax’s view of her. From episode 5 “I think she tried way too hard.” “Why are you always pretending everything’s fine?” “If you tell someone they’re loved and appreciated everyday, it just kinda loses all meaning. It just feels like she’s trying to take advantage of you, y’know? *sigh* I don’t know.” “Geez, Raggy, just let yourself be mean sometimes, it’s funny!” “Right, I should force her to be happy all the time [like you]”
Basically, Ragatha (or at least, in Jax’s eyes) is very similar to Jax’s mom, in that he really just, doesn’t get her at all. He can never tell what she’s actually thinking/feeling, cause she puts on an act of being nice, when she really doesn’t want to be. We know Jax’s mom was super emotionally confusing/manipulative as well, never giving consistent reactions and whiplashing back and forth, like when she laughed at Jax, berated and degraded, then hugged him.
So, in his head, Jax probably feels a lot like Piano Jax (childlike, looking for validation, anxious) when he’s trying to read Ragatha, and I think that’s what we would’ve seen behind the chained door. Pomni abstracted, Ragatha “emotional whiplash and manipulation”, Piano Jax.
As for Ragatha seeing her mom in Jax, I can 1000% see that as well! What we know about Ragatha’s mom is pretty similar to Jax.
“Would you stop trying to force her to act like you?” “Well, it’s better that turning her into some insensitive jerk who deflects everything” “And then you just act like you never do nothing wrong and ‘everybody loves you!’ when in reality you just f#@% everything up for everyone else!!”
“My mother was, a lot… I’m sure she doesn’t miss me. I certainly don’t miss the yelling… and the berating… and the guilt tripping…” “I can’t believe I hit it right to her, I’m supposed to be better than that.” “Sorry, I should be a better sport”
Basically, Ragatha’s mom was an emotionally abusive control freak and narcissist who deflected everything and Ragatha had to pick up after her and act like she was fine. And Jax is an emotionally manipulative jerk who likes to fit everyone into boxes and be in control and deflect everything. And Ragatha has to pick up the pieces and comfort those he hurts while also attempting to stay on his good side.
Sorry for taking over your post but I’m agreeing with you, and it makes their dynamic a MILLION times more interesting to me!
