'CONTRASTING CULTURES; Britain in the eyes of a Tourist'.
Textiles design project
For this project I was briefed to follow a concept surrounding "Objects of Desire"; objects that hold memory and show change in our lives. Personally, I chose British souvenirs; a magnet and a keychain - these reminded me of my grandparents, and the memories of them visiting my family here in the UK, all the way from the hilippines. This led me to explore the stereotypical imagery surrounding the UK and more specifically London motifs, from the viewpoint of a tourist. With this i mind, I created digitally printed fabric, screen printed panels, and a hand painted portrait of my dearest lola :) So proud of the final look!

Y2 Denim Design Collaborative Project
ss/24
-
A photoshoot showcasing my group's final denim design collection; we were given the brief of being inspired by community and applying it to raw indigo denim. As a result, we were influenced by work/life culture and the community that emerges from 5-9, in particular, overworked businessmen who are found at bars and nightclubs after a stressful day at the office. We were heavily inspired by images from Pawet Jaszczuk's High Fashion as well as the Sacai RTW Spring 2024 collection. The collection features manipulated denim tailoring with nods to clubbing attire, alongside the explicit neon topstitching in reference to the latter.
I'm so proud of the outcome of this project and to my group for being amazing collaborators!

'PROTECTING MY HERITAGE'
ss/25
Pre-collection project
This project was dedicated to my mum and honouring her career as a nurse; highlighting the struggles in the NHS, as well as the racial discrimination that filipino nurses face in Britain. I focused on using print techniques with my own illustrations inspired by filipino culture - most notably in my use of baybayin calligraphy. I also drew inspiration from medical gown ties and surgical masks in designing this look.

THE WHITE PROJECT
My concept surrounds the idea of female rage, taking inspirations from Margaret Atwood's novel, The Handmaid's Tale.

SAINT LAURENT FALL 2020 CAMPAIGN featuring. ROSÉ of BLACKPINK
Here I have showcased the designer campaign in shedding light of the excellent use of publicity, featuring South Korean pop singer Rosé of the world renowned girl group BLACKPINK.
DESIGNER RESEARCH: DOLCE & GABBANA
For this designer research page, I decided to dedicate it to the Dolce and Gabbana SS18 collection. The pieces collectively had a red-focused colour palette, with highlights of rainbow shooting through discreetly. This can especially be demonstrated, in look 96; the coordinating blouse and shorts are predominantly a bright red with illustrated prints however, the overcoat of multi-coloured feathers tie the look together and build structure, as well as texture. This ‘Queen of Hearts’ collection hints at regalia in a modern and chic way without the theme seeming too childish or even immature.

DESIGNER RESEARCH: KENZO
For this piece, I did a designer research focused page on the KENZO SS18 collection. The runway featured a bright colour palette paired with graphic text printed on statement pieces. Not to mention the repeated use of vertical stripes - particularly drawn to the multi-coloured calf-length socks. I also zoomed into aspects of each look that caught my eye; for example, in look 42, the sheer blue flounced trim lining across the bottom of the t-shirt dress. I admire this collection a lot due to its vibrancy and gaiety that doesn’t feel too overbearing or distasteful.

EXPERIMENTAL DIGITAL MANIPULATION WORK
For my A-level coursework I created some digital art pieces alongside my physical illustration work to experiment with several different medias.
Here I explored warping brand logos and text as well as working with shapes and portraits. I’ve also looked at some runway pieces and briefly researched and applied influences from Virgil Abloh, the artistic director of Louis Vuitton’s menswear collection.
Here is a piece of coursework I have done for my fashion and textiles A-Level project; focusing on anti-asian racism caused by misinformation surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic.
With last year’s COVID-19 xenophobia hitting headlines and twitter trends, it has become very much explicit that anti-asian racism has not been completely eradicated from today’s world. At the beginning of the global pandemic, too many innocent asian individuals have been helplessly tormented by close minded racists, and as a result, been blamed for the cause of the said pandemic. Not only this, but the rise of asian stereotypes and ridiculous name-calling came back into practice. Because of this, I decided to name my project ‘Open Your Eyes’.
The phrase is obviously a well-known discriminatory term used to target asian individuals with monolids, or supposedly “smaller” eyes. However, I have used it metaphorically, where it targets the oppressors instead - telling them to see the bigger picture and to open their eyes to see the constant pain they aren’t unaware of causing.
BLACKPINK JISOO FOR DIOR
Around Spring 2021 Jisoo from Blackpink officially became the new global ambassador for Dior, and thus made her debut in the role in multiple campaigns as well as the brand’s SS22 show.
I personally adore the cool tones in the statement pieces feautured in these promotional photos, alongside the sparkle of yellow gold in the heart shaped earrings and Christian Dior initials logo.
