I shouldnât have taken Medical Science as a Major. How did I get this course again?
I woke up from my seven year nap.

the brown head of hair running haphazardly through the rising smoke clearly isnât equipped to be there. the brunette turned to follow her, catch up, get her to safety. but someone was trying to stop her, seeing as an entire vehicle was tossed in her path. the carâs gasoline prompted a small explosion that sent sophie reeling, but it wasnât long before she was back on her feet and approaching the woman. whomever it was throwing cars around was shrouded by the smoke.   â  hey, can you stand ? iâll get you out of here. keep your head down.  â  it was a MIRACLE this girl was still alive. from sophieâs angle, it looked like the car had been right on the path to crushing her.
She coughed violently, dust and smoke entering her lungs like a thick fog of scents in the Perfume Department at the mall. It was painful and utterly uncomfortable. Esmeralda tries to level up her breathing with her heart still pounding her chest, pushing herself up from the ground. She couldnât hear anything, not as of yet, her vision all wobbly from the explosion.
There was a faint voice that grew louder each second as her hearing returned. She blinks, looking up to see an older woman by her aid. She didnât say anything else but nod and followed her instructions.Â
hellâs kitchen.
Normally after he uttered his words of caution whatever pedestrian that had managed to wander to the demolished zone would be quick to turn and find a new road to commute down, This stranger in particular, however, deemed herself not to be one considered of the ânormalâ batch. Rather than leaving, the tiny girl kept herself firmly planted on the ground, a string of questions soon leaving her rosy lips and Ezra tried his hardest to fight back a groan.Â
âIf you bothered to look around, this particular area is off-limits.â Â The brunet had attempted to press again, much to no avail. His fingers wrapped around a device latched on his belt, a cylindrical creation was unsheathed from its holster before the tanned male flickered the metallic thing on and thus summoned blue electricity. He pointed the gadget at a leap of debris, blue waves of energy quick to surround the pile before the male effortlessly moved the bundle onto a growing heap.
âIf I were an X-Men, I wouldnât have even bothered to patch up this city, now would I?â His words were sharp, venomous, and Ezra found his nails raking sharply against the shaft of his device, âI wouldâve just left the area in destruction, like they all usually do. Iâm not one of themâ Iâm just a construction worker.â He threw is head back, sparring a fleeting glance towards the stranger as he quickly scanned over her features, âJust donât bother with it.â
âYeah, but this wasnât off-limits before.â That was obvious. She went to school through this route. She never went off anywhere else. Esmeralda heaved out a large groan. âCome oooooooon. All the other ways are too far! I even forgot my wallet today to hitch up a bus.â She says, more towards herself than to the older man before her.Â
Given the gravity of the situation and how understandably dangerous it is to be around here for now, she was too stubborn to make a move.Â
Although, as the older man spoke, his response peaked her interest.
She folded her arms together and focused her attention on the heap of debris being moved around. âA construction worker, huh?â She mused, âYou know, I know a few construction workers--some of them Iâd say are family friends--and they do not have those cool gadgets you have nor do they have any powers. I donât even know what their policy is on mutants when hiring them either so...
Hold on, they just leave? Arenât they supposed to help out and stuff? Like even at least paying for damages?â

This had been a university where he studied once. The effects that the remarkable site had upon his clouded mind had been astonishing. The moment he stepped foot within the infrastructure, he was practically pummeled by a memory that had made him crashed down on the tiled floors, his fingers raking against the polished wood as pale eyes squeezed themselves shut tight until he nearly saw white, hot stars behind them.
                   [DECEMBER 8TH, 1941]
ââŠYesterday, December 7th, 1941, a date which will live in infamy, [the] United   States of America was suddenly and deliberately attacked by naval and air forces   of the empire of Japan.â  It was the first time within the school year that their class fell   deathly silent, FDRâs voice now an omen of calamity as it cracked through the radio. The    only sound evident within the classroom was a charcoal stick plundering down onto    concrete floors, crumbling as each student found themselves tense upon their horses.  â I ask that the Congress declare that since the unprovoked and dastardly attack by   Japan on Sunday, December 7th, 1941, a state of war has existed between the United  States and the Japanese empire.â  His eyes immediately flickered towards the frail blond  (the main he had fought earlier with, just smaller) that sat besides him, his forearm still   pressed against the drawing pad despite time being up. We need to fight, the lithe  boy had mouthed despite the fact that his features rang with trepidation. And for some  reason, as James found himself gazing in the boyâs cerulean hues, a devastating sensation   of dread filled within him.
Immediately after being summoning back from his memory, James had fished out his notebook and pen before scribbling down the newfound recallment at an anxiously fast pace. He noted every detail: from the lighting of the room down to the deep rumble that had been evident within Rooseveltâs voice, to the blond manâs petrified gaze down to the professor who had crumbled to the floor in shock just seconds later. Once done, the brunet had lifted himself from the floor and decided to embark further within the building, desperate if he could attempt to remember anything else. Thatâs how he ran into her.
âI wonât do anything,â he had murmured, his voice a soft disturbance in the atmosphere as his flesh had remained clasped at the harness of his bag, ââM justâŠ.looking.â James had eyed the petite girl, surprised that she hadnât ran off considering the amount of news that had recently featured him. âI studied here once.â
Of all the things that could happen to her by simply confronting him, why was she more worried about catching the attention of her professor and not the fact that HYDRAâs specially trained assassin literally stood just a foot away from her? The look on his features was enough to give away his puzzlement, his lips pressed into a fine line before he decided to trek further down the deserted hall.
Of course, she was worried. More than anything. But she would rather die than get expelled from school and be a disappointment to her already disappointed family. Sheâs already studying to be a doctor. What more will they ask of her?Â
Besides, even if she was going to be attacked by him, all she had to do was dodge and run like Hell. It would be a good story to tell to her friends.
âStudied here?â Her expression was replaced of bewilderment. How could a man, who is supposedly a HYDRA agent--one of which the t.v. told pretty much everyone throughout the globe to look out for--studied here. âArenât they like, Germans or something?â she thought to herself, straightening up and analysed the man before her.Â
What concerns her the most is that she is already at a vulnerable position and at a perfect situation to be killed right on the spot. Yet, judging the look on his face, he looked as confused as she is.Â
âWhoawhoawhoawhoa. Hold on, mister--â She flexed her hand on instinct towards his general direction and hurriedly muttered out the words, âUraudst--! (Freeze--!)â A thin light mist puffed out at the palm of her hand and went surging towards the fallen soldier.Â
âWhat are you, nuts!?â She said in a loud whisper, anxiously looking from all directions to see if anyone was coming. âYouâll get seen!âÂ

You just had to love Hellâs Kitchen, Ezra had thought as he nearly choked on saliva at the newfound information that Esmeralda had granted him. The New York area was just generally batshit insane ranging from its everyday civilians to the nearly casual destruction that would occur on its soil. Perhaps, simply that was just America in a nutshell.
âBet we could have done the same thing and make twenty.â The tension was nearly gone from the building, Ezra found himself walking with significant ease as the otherâs creation guided them through the dimmed building. At current, the most offsetting aspect of their trek was the rattling of windows against the chilled air, nevermind the grime-covered interior.Â
âTo me, you always seem drunk.â A chuckle vibrated against his throat before the lanky male came to a pause. He narrowed his eyes, examining the faint scratch marks that laced the walls as a single eyebrow perched up, the corners of his mouth twitching. âIt looks as though there was a fight here some years ago. An animal, Iâm assuming.âÂ
She nods in acknowledgement. Man, if it was at least twenty photos, they could probably get it to nearly half a million. Possibly. Sure, thatâs what happens if youâre a famous superhero. You get a much growing fanbase than any celebrity out there and much thirstier fans too. The thought made her chuckle. The conversation made him feel a little at ease, she can tell. It was a good sign.Â
âYou should see me when Iâm with my family. Can you imagine me being more sober?â She snickers, turning her attention now to observe the marks. âThat mustâve been some angry animal. I prefer to think the former, though. We should see what we can get from this.â She waved her finger once again and guided the light over to the mark. It stays for a moment before it raises back to its original spot right above the two and leads them the way.Â
Of course she wouldnât have had. Deep down, Ezra knew that the feeling was mutual in regards to himself as well. The fact that he could defend himself and the hearty amount of cash that the duo could rake in had they found anything was promising enough for the tanned male to tag along one of Esmeraldaâs bizarre adventures.
âYeah, right. Youâre lucky Iâve got insomnia; it takes a load of my energy to use my powers on people. Dispersing two bodies while fatigued? I might as well kill myself.â Each syllable grew less vocal as he neared the rusted door, until his voice was nothing more than a mere whisper against the howl of the night as he pressed his palm against the aged walls of the veiled laboratory. Ezra fluttered his eyes closed, inhaling deeply and he swore he could hear a squeak within the thick silence. A mouse, perhaps. âWish busting into the Avengers Tower would be this easy; just imagine how much a strand of Captain Americaâs hair would makeâŠâ
The feeling of excitement rushed in to her veins as she rubbed her hands together, thinking of whatever good loot they can find and sell to some shady dealer or something. Knowing this city, it has a crazed love for superheroes and baddies, that with just anything that can relate to them, they could get a lot of money from it.
âDude. Someone auctioned off like, ten photos of Captain Americaâs sweet, sweet plump ass on the internet and it got more than a hundred grand. Some thirsty fuck somewhere in the world is cradling those pictures right now as if a hundred grand was nothing.â She, too, had her voice lowered to a whisper as she crept in to the darkness. She hitched the strap of her satchel on her shoulder, minding the Book if she ever needs help. With a wave of her finger and a quick incantation, their fizzling white orb of a light source began leading them deeper in to the hallway.
âJust follow it. It can take us to whatever we can find.â She says, âAlso, be happy Iâm not drunk right now or this whole thing would have gone a lot more interesting.â

She was going to get them killed or, worse, arrested. A deep scowl was painted upon Ezraâs lips as the short girl batted off his warning yet again. The older dug the edges of his shoes against the concrete. He didnât know why he was constantly dealing with Esmeraldaâs inane antics, knowing very well of how batty the girl was.
âEsme, if we walk into the police and get sent to jail, I will personally slaughter you.â The tanned male hissed, his teeth clenched as he took a moment to take a fleeting glance backwards. âThis better be worth it.â With that being said, Ezra found himself advancing towards the door, his body hunched lightly as he kept his hands tensed.
She gave him a cheeky smile at his disapproval. Itâs always fun to mess with him. Besides, she didnât want to do this with her usual group of friends. Mostly because they didnât want to get in trouble. This was apparently supposed to be a top secret site anyways. Who cares? Itâs abandoned and possibly any traces of whatever weapon was being made was taken away by SHIELD agents. Itâs not like theyâll find anything of interest.
âIf I didnât have powers, I wouldnât have done this in the first place, sweetheart.â She made a fist and underneath her fingertips, her palm glowed. She shaped the light in to a small orb and lifted it up in the air, making it as their own little light source. âBesides, we can, like, escape real easy. Iâve seen you done it.That whole evaporating thing with yourself and youâre just woosh... Gone.â

âIâm sorry, but am I drunk or did you just do that?â
â...Do what?â She gave her a blank stare before flicking her wrists, her empty glass seemed to have been refilled once more. âIâunno, lady. Are you drunk?â
âItâs getting dark out and I donât like it.â //FORGOT THIS ACCT TOO
âWhat, are you going to cry about it?â Esmeralda rolled her eyes and peered through the dark hallways of the abandoned building. This was rumoured to be an âabandoned secret weapons workshopâ and legend says that people died trying to make a âsuper weaponâ and the ghost of the workers haunted the building to this day.
âDude. Youâre like, taller than me which means youâre supposed to be more menacing. I mean, if we find something scary, we can fight it off, yeah?â She grins up at him and pushed the door wider for them to enter.Â
âAre you ready, bready?âÂ
