They had the afternoon off so River decided they would tag along with Trix to their latest volunteering gig. It was actually quite adorable and wholesome to know that, along with music, Trix had a passion to work with animals. “I think I could make these by hand and if I get help on the easier parts they’ll go even faster.” River held out their phone to swipe through a few of the different invitation ideas they’d seen. They paused to pet the dog that Trix was walking. “Aw, she’s so sweet. I wish there was room at the apartment for her.” River would love to adopt all of the animals, if they had the room. Four people and two cats was about all the apartment could hold considering the stream of traffic and stray humans they seemed to collect on any given day. “And this is what I was thinking for the save the dates.” The showed them the next photo on their pinterest board. “We need to decide on a date first, though. How many more dogs are you walking?”

Trix wished they were relevant again only so they could tip off some edgy magazine photographer to get shots of the things they were doing with their life now. Like volunteering with dogs that needed a home. Oddly, Trix connected with every single pup he had to walk. Forgotten about but there was still hope for them. “We could do a production line but like...distract Fox with something.” he laughed because Fox was not an artist with a brush, just a guitar pick. “Between your skills and Bowie’s I’m sure they’ll get done fast and look great.” they added, swooping one arm around River so they could eye the phone as they walked. “I try to not think about it because I’d take all of them with me. Maybe if we get a little cabin with land, we could do our own thing but then...we’d miss everyone.” Trix frowned because the Apartment of Abundance had become a home for many of them, even beyond the initial occupants it was made for. They pressed a kiss against River’s temple, then straightened their back to resume their usual height. “I love it, so we’re going for the dark mystical sort of thing? Right? Two worlds colliding?” he grinned, ruffling his decorated fingers through River’s hair. “We got plenty of time to figure out a date. We gotta figure out money too...and what the place should look like. Maybe Del will let use use their home for the after party or whatever. Maybe not, they’re kinda weird about people getting in their basement for some reason.” Trix chuckled and then looked back at the center. “Umm, I think whatever I got time for today. There’s a cute Alsatian I know you’d love called Sophie, she’s fully white but has mixed matched eyes. Whatever it’s called. Homosexual eyes.”

“Oh he did?” Of course he did, why wouldn’t he? It made perfect sense since they were so close and it was probably for the best. That way it wouldn’t be some big shock. Remi was certainly shocked when he saw Fox and then went on to hear the rest of them were there as well. He took a drag from his cigarette and shrugged. “I don’t know, guess so. I left a few months ago cause it-” he let out a long exhale, debating if he should say it or not but why lie? “It wasn’t the same without you there and I haven’t paid any attention to the news since.” In his not so humble opinion, Trix was Slice. Without them, it was a completely different band. Even if Trix had their issues, the label should have been trying to find ways to help them out and put things on hold until they were better or knew if they wanted to keep going at least. “Kind of crazy you are all here.” He added for lighter conversation.

“Yeah, if you wanted to stay hidden for a while Fox is kinda the worst person to see first.” Trix laughed, nothing but love for their curly haired friend. But a secret keeper was not one of his traits. Trix nodded to show they were listening but were expecting to hear how they had fucked up every chance Slice had of a comeback or decent future. Remi’s actual words surprised him, glancing up from their boots with an arched brow. “I’m sorry I put you in that position.” Trix then said, which was an unusual response from him. A few months ago, they would have pinned Remi to the side of the bar and told them that they were a weak and shit friend. “Kinda wish you had my back at the time but I know why you didn’t.” they added with a small smirk. “Apparently there’s a running joke that Lockwood Springs is where old faces always show up and it keeps proving it. I got here five years after River and Fox. Just by chance, too.”

their friendship hasn’t been restored to what it used to be but jude wonders if that’s a good thing. it gives them a new foundation and starting block, even if things feel dicey when they spend time together. ‘fun dip.’ jude ruminates as he grabs a few of them to add to the already growing pile. this is what you get when you ask fox to send a text of everything he wants when he’s too stoned to move. he’s surprised trix offered to tag along, jude assuming there’s some conversation looming in the air. ‘you and rivvy got the date yet?’ he asks, excitement for his friends next chapter together. he hasn’t told trix that he’s randomly been pinteresting too…it’d be weird, right?

Trix spent a long time wondering if Jude’s choice to stay in Seattle sealed Slice’s fate. Not in a bad way but he was a natural talent, part of the foundation of the band. His refusal should have been Trix’s sign that it was a bad idea, but at the time they were fueled by the desire to make something of themself. In the end it was the undoing of them. “Er...not yet, it’s more theme plans and kind of vibe talk right now. Not rushing it. Plus, finding someone who doesn’t do the traditional hetereo shit is tough.” Trix laughed, watching over to Jude as they grabbed their own snacks. “I’m pretty sure River has a vision in their head that we have to make sure can be done and understood. Plus money.” A big one.

They let out a long exhale. On one hand, it was a great feeling to have people who cared so much that they wanted to protect them. On the other hand, it was River’s fault it happened to begin with. They would have ran or yelled for help or fought back. But, there again, they weren’t much for violence unless it was necessary to protect someone they loved and they still hated it. “You’re right I have to pay him, in a week. I have a good feeling this guy uses violence as a love language, hon.” If they weren’t so sore and tired they might go off into a speech about retaliation and how it never solved anything. “Plus it’s one of those Southside guys, you know how irrational they are. Nothing’s broken and it’s not even that bad.” It probably felt worse than it actually was. “Just tossed me into things mostly and said angry things. Called me Cosmo so I called him Wanda.” They smiled at Trix despite the pain. “Is it too soon for me to admit I’d really love an oxy right now, or three?” River certainly felt bad for saying it but it was true. They sighed again and leaned into their other half, laying their head on his shoulder.

“We can do that.” Trix nodded with a hopeful promise, not wanting River to worry about everything all at once. Just to heal up and then they could work it out. “I’ve got shit I don’t need, we can sell it. We could borrow from someone who’d give us more time. There’s options.” Trix hoped it would comfort River and he knew his love wouldn’t want any of them getting involved, but maybe he’d be able to work it out for himself. Scan the crowds for someone with red knuckles. “It’s about time I get a job anyways.” they muttered softly, thinking still. There was only so much they could do, having given all of their life to music. Fuck it, they’d busk if they had to. Trix stroked through River’s hair slowly to try and create an easing energy for them, resting their chin against their head when he felt them lean against them. Wanda. Trix chuckled, feeling a surge of love for their love’s humor. “Well, at least you don’t have concussion because I would’ve laughed at that.” they kissed the top of their head gently. The oxy comment only stalled Trix for a moment, tightening the arm around River into a squeezing hug. “Yeah but just think how much better it’ll feel knowing you wanted it but didn’t.” they encouraged quietly. “Think your little junkie butt could settle for a kiss instead?”

They did say it was worth a shot, they didn’t say it wouldn’t be a long shot. “Would you believe me if I said I fell down a flight of stairs,” River remembered the extent of the damage, “or two?” They offered as a joke, trying to maybe lighten their mood and of course their inability to take anything too seriously. River sighed and pulled the hood of their hoodie up to do a better job of hiding as many marks under clothing as possible. They scooted backwards to lean against the wall for support. “I will tell you all the same things I told Bowie. It’s worse than it looks, it was my fault it happened, and I’m not telling you who it is if it means you’re going to go pick a fight with them.” Not that they had a choice on whether Bowie or Trix adhered to their conditions. They couldn’t, however, send anyone they loved to go head to head with a crazed criminal over several cuts and bruises. Nothing was broken, they had all their teeth, and the insulin pump was still working properly. It could have been much worse. “I can tell you they’re a dealer or is a dealers boss or something and I don’t remember doing it, but I stole a shit ton of drugs from him.” River shrugged, embarrassed they were so reckless in such a dangerous way. “I have a week to come up with a grand to pay him back.” Which was exactly what they were putting their energy into figuring out how to do.

Trix failed to see the funny side of any of it, following River’s movements to scoot closer to them as they backed up. As soon as their love attempted to hide the injuries under their hood, Trix’s hand softly swept it back again so they could assess them. “Fuck, babe.” they muttered, confused and angry that somebody would want to harm a hair on River’s head. And while River tried to explain away the reasons for not telling Trix a thing, the singer was shaking their head softly and helping River place the icepack to the bruises. “I don’t care if you want to protect me, something has to be done.” they stated, not raising their voice because of how close they were to River. They leaned back as soon as they heard the money, sighing but not out of frustration but because River was alone and had nobody there to help them. “Jesus...we will have to...we’ll figure it out.” Trix replied, using their other hand to gently hold River’s face. “Where does it hurt? What did they do?” If River wasn’t going to tell Trix then they’d have to try and work out who did it, start looking for red knuckles in the crowd.

Of course the music dive is where Remi would see Slice’s former lead singer. At one point one of his best friends, he wondered what he would be considered now. Dead to them? An enemy? Nothing at all was a high probability and maybe he never had been anything to begin with. Remi wouldn’t be dwelling on it at all that night if his fight or flight instinct hadn’t kicked in the minute he spotted River Patel among the attendees in the crowd. It was funny to see them first considering how much easier it was to pick Trix out of a crowd but he wasn’t about to stick around to see if they were there, too. Instead, he attempted to make himself vanish before he was seen by ducking out the door to join the smokers outside. A horrible plan because two steps out the door and he was standing face to face with the very person he was attempting to avoid. “Uh,” he looked down and cleared his throat. Before talking again he pulled the cigarette from behind his ear and lit it. Remi was secretly hoping they would just leave in the process or punch them in the face or something, get it all over with quickly. “Hey,” he said looking up so their icy gazes could meet.

Trix was prepared to see Rem’s face again after Fox told them to be. Part of Trix refused to believe it out of ease, not wanting to face that part of their life. For many months, the memories attached to Slice were like a fever dream. A reminder of Trix’s demons surfacing and a trigger for the self loathing and guilt they had for letting everything get as bad as it was. At first, he hated all of his friends for turning their back on him but then over time it began to make sense. He pushed them to, in many ways. As soon as the familiar face was impossible to avoid, Trix fell into an eerie silence as they stared at Rem. A peculiar feeling of nostalgia and pain. “Hi,” Trix responded reluctantly but not from hatred but a frozen place of their mind. “Fox said you were...well, he mentioned you were back.” they added just for something to fill the silence. “Guess everything went to shit, huh?”

“Mmmm, more like Kali. But I’ll accept Lucifer since I assume you’re one to their many descendants.” River would not be surprised if that were actually true after meeting their very similar half-sibster, though it didn’t explain Millie. Perhaps she got the angel side. “Point is moot. I would never want to.” Ever, ever, ever. Not even for a second. River snorted a laugh and rolled their eyes but didn’t further the banter because they needed to know what this enormous secret was immediately. Considering up until that moment they were one hundred percent sure they knew everything there was to know about their heart. And then, there it was. River’s mouth hung open in shock and they stood corrected. Now they knew everything. They had never thought for a second that they would ever know Trix’s feelings on the age-old argument between River and Fox. In fact they had set it out of their mind as a losing battle. “You have got to be fucking kidding me right now. After all this time? AND NOW I CAN’T EVEN SAY ANYTHING!?” River stood up and shook their head at their fiancé like a disappointed mother. “You’re just plain evil, my love.” They bent over to give him a lingering kiss. “But thank you for being on my side, I think I may never stop smiling.” They straightened again with the intention to go to the bathroom. “I’ll be back in a few. I need to go absorb this fully.”

They had already gotten the third degree check over from Bowie. Fox had not appeared yet and that was probably for the best as well. They assumed he was off with Trix somewhere and for once River was happy to have the two be distracted away from them. The ice had helped the swelling a good deal but River could feel the bruises start to form, almost in real time. Sadly all they could think about was trying to find something that would numb it and then chastising themselves for even considering it. Needless to say they were in a fun spiral of self-hatred. River’s eyes flicked up when they heard the familiar footfalls of boots move into the little home away from home they had all created in one of the classrooms. They sat up and sighed. Maybe they could just gloss over it, worth a try, right? “Good evening, darling, did you have fun on your adventure?”

Trix knew that the big reveal would render River’s satellite signal to short circuit. Hence why the singer held onto the secret for as long as they did. The Redacted Love segment of all their lives had been monumental. When Trix first met Fox and River, they would have never guessed something so trivial would cause arguments. So, they kept their mouth shut but as their love for River grew over the years, it finally felt right to be on their side officially. Secretly officially. Trix grinned and laughed at River’s reaction, holding onto River’s face to kiss them and try and subdue the adrenaline. “Yeah, can never be talked about. Ever. That’s the condition, baby.” they teased with a few more kisses. Just as River bid their goodbye, Trix pulled them back for another kiss and then kissed against their fingers before their hands parted. “Okay, but you better not be running off to tell Bowie or Fox. I’ll still marry you if you do, but I’ll be grumpy.” they grinned, giving their love a farewell wink as they went their separate ways.

Trix wasn’t a clingy lover, probably the opposite but there was an unsettled feeling in their gut while River was gone. They kept themself busy, speaking to Fox and Jude and then finding their half-soaked sibster to try and help. Exhausting work, no wonder why they used to need drugs just to have energy. There was a nagging thought in the back of Trix’s mind that River wasn’t usually gone for this long...not that they were counting. A sign from the universe maybe? Trix ventured to find them, following their inner compass to where they thought River would be. Among comfort and aesthetically pleasing details, of course. The concern was immediate when they saw them, Trix’s brows furrowing into a silent anger as a pale finger pointed to the bruising. “Riv, is that-” they bowed their head to see closely and their jaw tensed. “Who the fuck did this?” It didn’t matter how or any events leading up to the situation, Trix was now on a war path.

“OH, and here we are again calling me a misogynist. A non-binary, queer, person of color, who is also a sex worker - yes, that’s right, I am prejudiced against women and you are the holy fucking grail of feminism.” River rolled their eyes because it was always the first point with Courtney fanatics, if you hate her you’re obviously a misogynist. “For the nine billionth time, I do not hate Cuntley Love because she is a woman and if you don’t know that by now I have no idea why we’re even friends, let alone soul mates.” They scoffed and shook their head because the words leaving their mouth felt dangerous and inviting Fox to leave them over some stupid musician that hasn’t been relevant for most of their lives. “Are you seriously suggesting that Dave Grohl killed the lead singer of his very successful band, in which he’d already taken off mind you to THIRTY YEARS LATER kill his drummer and kill his band? Seriously? WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU RIGHT NOW?” River screeched the last words they were so flustered. “You can have your stupid Celebrity Skin, in your fucking van where it belongs. NOT in our home, which is a SAFE SPACE, FENIX.”

“No, nope! That’s not what I’m saying.” Fox tried to interject, raising his voice as he waved his hand to try and stop River’s rant. What happened to live and let live? Why did he have to abandon his favourite grunge artist just because River didn’t like her. It was unjust. “I’m saying, WHAT I’M SAYING IS, the reasons why people dislike Courtney are always embedded in mishoginy.” Now he was merging the two words. “The idea of her killing Kurt are just because people didn’t like the fact she’s outspoken about the bullshit women have to face!” Fox raised his voice again passionately, not liking that this felt like the billionth time he had to protest for her innocence. “She literally released her own music in 1991 and people literally claim that Kurt wrote shit for her, and it’s so untrue. She had no reason to kill him! She was successful already!” Fox’s hands, for some reason curled like a hearty Italian-American. “I’ve always thought Dave was suspicious. He literally never got any attention in Nirvana and then, low and behold, FF’s drummer rocks up dead. I’ve never bought the nice guy act, sue me River. TAKE ME COURT ABOUT IT, I’LL LITERALLY GIVE A LAWYER MY WHOLE ALBUM COLLECTION AND WE’LL HAVE YOUR ASS.”

Call it a sixth sense or being spiritually intune with River, but Trix could tell by the way they stormed down to the store that something was wrong. And usually, the only time there was disharmony was because of one thing and one thing only. The thing that shouldn’t be mentioned, the thing that could cause a dilemma at any given moment. It didn’t take long for the raised voices to reach the apartment, making Trix groan slightly. “Here we go.” they sighed, moving to the stairs to listen a little closer. This one seemed like a bad one, what had it been? 200 days? Or something. Trix always lost count. “Okay come on, she doesn’t even know any of us exist.” they made themself known, walking the rest of the way into the store. A lightening quick glance moved to River, a low warning to not let a secret spill before Trix looked to Fox “No one’s gonna go to court, and no one’s gonna hate anyone for having different opinions. Okay? This has gone on too long.”

“Oh please, all I’d have to do is drag you to some crossroads and say Demon be gone.” Del quipped with a playfully sinister grin. She battled a chesty laugh when Trix joked, finding it too easy to slip into insulting comments with their sibling. It came naturally, like there was a golden rule for traumatized goths. Just be mean to people you cared about. Millie missed that memo, because she was a sweetheart and Del wondered how somebody could be as effortlessly kind as Millie was. “You’re finally catching on to all the missing people posters, huh?” Del teased back dryly. It didn’t matter how much they both bonded since Trix’s arrival, the truth was Del was beyond saving. At least that’s what they told themself. They were surprised their demise was being dragged out for so long too. “Feeds the cycle.” Del laughed slightly. “What if it’s hungry? What then?”

“Uhuh, and you’d get dragged right back with me.” Trix nudged their elbow into Del’s side lightly as he laughed. It was impossible not to imagine what childhood could have existed if Trix had known all along that they were part Stanley. What would have happened instead with two guiding arms from Del and from Millie? It was as if there was another universe where they existed together in those years. A happier Kai. “The ones I’m not responsible for did confuse me a little until now, yeah.” Trix laughed, just to hide the way their mind had wandered too far. Del’s question was a good one, and one they asked themself many times. “Have to fight it.” they shrugged, a simple answer for something more complicated. “But I guess the real thing is...wanting to. I guess.” they added, knowing nobody could ever force somebody to take those initial steps.

“Lucifer always did have more fun.” River quipped back through the giggles caused by Trix’s precise aim to their ticklish spots. It ended with a small hum of contentment, their fingers lacing in and out of his. “Mmm,” they turned their head to steal a kiss after the string of affection, “same.” There was a deep seeded fear of abandonment in River but that fear no longer applied to Trix, except in their dreams apparently. Awake and in their arms, they knew they would never be without each other again. They could trust that, even when nothing else made sense. “Well, it wouldn’t be everyone.” River sighed and with a small pout moved back to rest against them. The pinky that moved in front of them was a cheeky move. Trix knew that it just so happened to be the most binding thing among River and their soulmates. As such they lifted the pinky adorned with a star to match the other cosmic tattoos in the same place on Bowie and Fox. “Fine, no Bowie, no Fox, and,” they let out a little growl. “I won’t talk about it again after this moment, but I’m not promising I won’t think about it and as such, I cannot help the looks you may receive when it crosses my mind.” They hooked their pinky in his and moved forward to kiss their thumb which everyone knew, sealed the deal completely.

“Oh yeah, proved when Lucifer created you.” Trix laughed, captured by the way River’s laughter sounded to their ears. It was melodic and just as colorful as them. Their relationship was hard to explain to others but there was a deep knowing that they belonged to one another. “You know I’d never let you even if you wanted to.” Trix laughed, a playful show of possessiveness that they knew their love enjoyed to feel. A grin was spread over Trix’s lips as River gave in to the pinky trick, knowing that it would work. They nodded, clearing their throat because Fox was the kind of person that you never wanted to betray. “That’s fine, I can live with you giving me sassy little looks from across a room but there will be hell to pay if this is ever talked about verbally. Telepathically, I can allow.” they said, hooking their finger around River’s and then kissing them softly. “I fucking hate Courtney Love.” they deadpanned after the kiss, looking River deep into their eyes before a small laugh broke out. “There, that’s it. Never to be talked about ever again.”

Sobriety. Even the word tasted weird, like it was begging to be knocked back with a stiff drink to cleanse Del’s palette. After River and Trix made the journey seem admirable, Del was frozen in fear at the thought. With nothing to blank their memories, what would they be? Who would they be? A curt laugh followed at Trix’s words, but Del playfully rolled their eyes. “Yeah, me and Mills pulled the short straw huh? You found out you’re part Stanley, and all we got was a lousy goth.” Del laughed again, but this time weakly. She knew if anyone understood it was Trix and Millie, that there was simply a curse that followed their bloodlines. That’s what Del believed anyways. “Suck it up, buttercup. I was here before you. I was the only goth in Lockwood for a while too, so show some respect.” they teased, even if they sounded angry. But then something strange happened, the alcohol mixed with all the emotions made Del’s gaze soften. Something about Trix telling her to move made her drop all sense of humor. “Trix, I will literally barf if I get up. I mean it.”

“Too bad. No returns.” Trix laughed, happy to see their step sibling actually chuckling. They didn’t mind being the brunt of the joke if it meant Del could feel more like themself. Trix was more worried about whether or not they could be any use on this side of the situation. They had spent longer being on Del’s side, and now the roles were reversed and they were like a fish out of water. Addiction to anything was sad to see, and Trix wished they could apologize for all the times they caused their friends concern. But, they were a long way from cured. “I wouldn’t flaunt your age like that, Del. People will finally realize you drink the blood of virgins to survive.” they laughed, already on their feet. First they were concerned by Del’s words, but then the singer sighed sofly. You couldn’t trick a trickster, and Trix was the trickiest trickster. They crossed their long arms, shaking their head. “I’m not letting you sit here and wallow in self pity. It feeds the cycle. Get your old bony ass up and come with me.”

A quick giggle responded to Trix’s reaction. “I usually prefer River. Jesus is way too formal not to mention all the expectations attached. Oof. No, thank you.” They teased on a whim. Sometimes they hated the things that came out of their mouth. River settled back into the arms of their love, nuzzling their head to fit into the perfect spot on their shoulder. “You never know, I’ve heard those rodeo stars are pretty hot in that rustic western way.” Picturing their tall, dark, and incredibly handsome soulmate running off into the sunset with some country western bull rider had to be the funniest image to ever pop up in their mind. A frown flashed across their face thinking about Trix leaving them, though, even if the logical side of them knew it was a ridiculous notion. Impossible. But what wasn’t impossible is the fact that they could be spending the rest of their life with not one but two people who like the murderess of the king of grunge. Miss Parasite herself. They could tolerate one but if the other half of their soul, their moon and their stars sided with Fox on that matter and that matter alone; they did not think they would be able to stand it. “It was the real nightmare.” River sat up again and turned to look at them. “You don’t understand babe, it is a whole fear and then to wake up back in this place does not help that.” It may seem silly to anyone on the outside looking in, but sometimes the things that seem insignificant had the biggest impact for no real reason other than it just did. “I mean I can usually keep a secret, but it depends what it is. It’s hard to keep things from Foxy. Can I tell Bowie? I tell you three everything, you know.”

“You mean Satan.” Trix delivered quickly, accompanying their tease with a gentle zap against River’s sides. Their playfulness together always knew how to bring a smile to Trix’s face, even if they tried their damnedest to stop a large grin from appearing. A small scoff left Trix as River rose and came to nuzzle against them, and the singer took the opportunity to string gentle kisses against their forehead. “I guess we’ll never know because I have everything I need right here.” they muttered through the kisses. It was a beautiful feeling to know your heart was safe with someone, but Trix found it more honoring that River trusted him with theirs. There was no better gift than to know someone who loved you, also trusted you. So no, even if Trix’s eyes could be caught by a rodeo star, they knew this kind of love could never be found twice in one life. “I don’t like the idea of everyone knowing but Fox.” Trix replied, frowning slightly. Yes, Trix easily could playfight with Fox and give the sweet guitarist teasing hell but they also adored him. “It has to be between us, to the grave.” they then said, lifting their tattooed pinky up for River to hook theirs. Trix even wiggled the digit a little, enticing River furthermore. “I mean it, babe. No Fox, no Bowie. And it’s never talked about ever again after this moment.”

They weren’t great with storms and that was quite an understatement but it was even worse when the word ‘evacuation’ got thrown around. Then a shelter situation on top of that mixed with seeing cots and blankets that sent them right back to a scared little preteen in the midst of a hurricane. Luckily they had a rock solid group of people who were around to bring them back down to earth and on top of that list was their newly claimed fiancé. Trix had not only found them a quiet place, but managed to lull them to sleep even if it was a restless one. Their head in their soulmate’s lap, they stirred a few times then jolted awake with a gasp, sitting upright. “Babe, oh my stars,” they held their chest and caught their breath. “I just had the worst dream. You were going to leave me for some cowboy and that’s not the worst part.” River’s hand touched their knee with utter seriousness. “Before you left, you told me you adored Courtney Love.” The blasphemy, it was tragic. While Trix never took sides, it was something to add to the now growing list of things to obsessively worry about that weekend.

River and Trix were always in their own bubble but even more so when Trix could sense River needed them closeby. The storm was not going to be an easy thing to wait out, and Trix made a silent pledge to remain beside their love for its duration if needed. They never thought of themself as a caregiver, but for some reason it came naturally to the relationship. Maybe it was from understanding one another deeply, that they could both guess what the other needed without a word muttered. Sleep wasn’t grasping Trix as it did River, so the singer remained stroking their love’s hair and face gently so they could sleep. They watched them mostly, every little movement or twitch of muscles caught Trix’s attention to ensure they were okay. The gasp, however, took Trix by surprise. “Jesus!” they laughed, one arm coming around River’s back to try and comfort them. The dream was even funnier than the reaction. “I er...can’t say cowboys have ever been my type, babe.” Trix chuckled, glancing around themself teasingly. “And there’s none here you gotta worry about.” Then Trix heard Redacted’s name and nodded knowingly. “I got you. That was the real nightmare, right?” they grinned to River, laughing again. “If I tell you something, will you promise not to tell Fox?”

“There you are,” she chimed loudly as she approached Trix from behind. Neither Trix or Cordie were hard to miss in a crowd. Somehow Mildred managed to get the short end of the stick when it came to the height and looks side of the gene pool on both accounts. No matter, it seemed their shared sperm donor managed to handout some good genes to the other two and truly that was more important. “I was hoping I’d find you, someone else to check off the list. Del hasn’t shown up yet but Blaze went out to find them.” She rattled off as if they were having a conversation already. “Anyways! How are you? Did you get here okay? Do you need anything?” Millie continued on, looking the tall addition to their family over. “Have you guys eaten? Oh! I heard the news, congratulations. Sorry I couldn’t be there. I found out late and I figured it wasn’t important for me to be there anyways with all you kids.” Truth be told she had planned to go but second guessed it and didn’t want to end up showing up if she wasn’t welcome. The woman already felt like she toed the line with them always unsure if they wanted the Stanley siblings in their life reminding them of their father’s many shortcomings.

Returning to Lockwood with the discovery of not one but several family members that young Kai was unaware of, well, it was a shock to Trix’s symptoms. Part of them mourned for the life Kai could have had, while the other part felt thankful to finally feel a belonging. Millie was the sunshine of the crew, that was for sure. And Trix’s soberness let them appreciate that in recent months. “All here and accounted for.” Trix did a little salute before they hugged Millie, having to break their own back just to get to her level. She was more like a mother than a sister, which was a strange experience for Trix. Strange and heartwarming. “We got plenty of food. We could probably join forces and spend the rest of our lives in this place.” Trix laughed, gesturing to Millie’s stockpile of supplies. He sometimes forgot he was engaged, and took a look to the perfect ring around his finger with a smile. “Thanks, it’s er...I keep forgetting it’s real.” they laughed and then shook their head. “You’d always be welcome, Millie. You know that. River, Bowie, Fox and Jude basically see you as family too at this point. And Del. Do you think they’re alright if Blaze had to go get them?”
