"Iâm sorry Sir, can I help you?"
âProbably. Iâm here because of an appointment with Admiral Benett, but heâs nowhere to be seen.â
Kat looked over the other man before checking her computer. There was in fact a meeting scheduled with her Commanding Officer but it seemed that the Admiral had been called away. "I'm sorry, Sir" she placated, "but it looks like the Admiral's attention was required elsewhere. Is there anything I can help you with? Or one of the officers even?"Â

"Care to explain why I'm hunting a djinn and I've found you instead? Not that I'm complaining or anything, but still. It's a bit unexpected."

"You're lucky you caught me off duty. Something I can help you with?"

"Honestly, if I were you, I wouldn't just stand there. Don't you think that makes you a little bit more able to become...oh, I don't know...lunch?"

"Again Sir, Iâm sorry" Kat replied, unable to give him a clear, direct answer. "I applied? Saw the opening for a Comm Specialist and I just decided to try."
Must have been when he was out of the loop concerning the Normandy. And, well, everything else.Â
"Give me a rundown of your qualifications."
Kat sighed softly, not wanting to upset her new Commanding Officer but still expressing her annoyance at the situation. "I graduated in the top five of my class at the Academy" she replied, shoving her hands in her pockets so she wouldn't nervously fidget with them. "I've been working in Intelligence for a while now. But I've been around the Alliance for as long as I can remember. Both my parents were Officers too." Giving him a sweet but daring look, she continued. "Anything else you'd like to know that can be easily found in my file, Sir?"

The last thing Kat remembered was a bright light. ThenâŠnothing. She hadnât felt pain or fear. The only thing she felt was an enveloping warmth before she was blinded. Thereâs been sounds of people dying, her friends, her family. The screams were trapped inside her head. Sheâd been so preoccupied with finding Eamon that she hadnât seen the enemy coming straight for her. In all honesty she was glad that he hadnât been there. He wouldnât have dealt well with her being attacked, at all.Â
Before long, Katâs entire body ached. The brightness had been replaced by dim lighting and the screams of her wounded comrades yielded to electronic pings. She moaned softly as she tried to move, finding it difficult due to various IVâs and bandages. A cough made her wince in pain, her chest feeling like it had been set on fire. All she did was try to reach out, hoping someone was thereâŠ
With Kaidanâs release from Huerta Memorial Hospital, Eamon had thought he saw the last of the place for a long while. Yet here he was again, sitting at another bedside, hoping for the occupant to wake up so that he could see with his own eyes that she was alright. To hell with whatever the doctors told him.
The slightest noise from Kat lifted his head and then he was rising from his chair, catching her hand and guiding it back down to her side but not releasing it. âEasy, Kat. Youâre in Huerta.â Eamon paused. âYouâre alright.â
Once Kat heard who was beside her, the young officer calmed immediately. Eamon. If he was there with her, apparently at the hospital and aboard the Citadel, that meant that he was alright. Nothing had happened to him, hopefully. She still had her best friend.Â
"Are you?" Kat croaked, her throat burning. How long had she been asleep? When had they brought her to Huerta? More importantly, how bad were her injuries that Dr. Chakwas couldn't help her in the med bay? "How long...?" came another strangled attempt at speech. God, this was exhausting.Â

The compliment brought a small smile to the Lieutenantâs face. It wasnât often that a soldier was talked highly of by Commander Shepard. âThank you, Maâamâ she replied happily. âI couldnât imagine a better a post. Canât lie to you, a lot of the others in my team were jealous when I was assigned here.â
âAs they should be. The Normandyâs the finest vessel out there â and Iâve heard the COâs quite the lady,â she joked lightly, grinning. âThat being said, if you need something â anything â please let me know, and Iâll accommodate you to the best of my ability.â
Kat hadn't expected the Commander to be so warm and welcoming. She'd expected to feel a bit at ease aboard the Normandy due to it's prestige, but she already felt at home. "Thank you very much, Ma'am" the Lieutenant replied. "I truly appreciate that. Really."

"My apologies, Sir" Kat replied politely, standing at attention and saluting. "Lt. Kathleen Collins, Sir. Iâm your new Communications Specialist."
"And you were stationed hereâŠwhy?"
"Again Sir, I'm sorry" Kat replied, unable to give him a clear, direct answer. "I applied? Saw the opening for a Comm Specialist and I just decided to try."

Deja Vu :||: CLOSED w/ iobservewithmyeyes
Since leaving the Navy, Kat had been practically living out of her car. She hadn't had a permanent address in over a year. The hunter did as other hunters, surviving off small amounts of money from odd jobs between hunts. Learning from Ellen and Jo had been...hard to say the least, but she wasn't doing too badly on her own. Kat had caught wind of a case by an army base in Iowa and decided to give it a whirl. She had a decent idea of what was terrorizing the soldiers, but she needed to see the damage first hand. While she didn't have an active military ID anymore, she could easily slip inside if she wore her uniform. Enlisted soldiers rarely questioned officers. Parking her car and fixing her cover, "Lieutenant" Collins walked her way to the gate and passed through as easily as expected. Now she just needed to figure out what was going on.
