Incident at sports ground
Lawyer up. An incident happened yesterday at an army sports ground in Kraków, Poland, where as I was finishing my 15th lap of the track, an exercise I take at most once every 10 or so days, when suddenly this woman who I had thought was just passing by hollers at me and aggressively starts requesting a permit and also wanting to know what division I was from.
So first of all, she almost gave me a heart attack: imagine winding down with your heartrate up and this banshee comes out from the concrete ruins of this nowhere place in Krakow and at full attack mode.
My automatic-greeting smile dropped from my face and Wu Tang filled my ears, 'Oh you want beef? Is that what you want?'
She doesn't ever want to see me here again, she continues to froth as I calmly say I didn't know. She doesn't believe me and tells me about the rules advisory notice by the entrance. Which entrance did you use? She asked, rightly, because there are like entrances and gates absolutely everywhere at this open complex in a public park, which is used by tons of different people every single day.
She had been going with 2 other people, an older man and a soldier, in freshly pressed uniform. 'You shouldn't speak to people in this way." I said to her in a reprimanding tone.
She took the hook, what did I mean by 'this way'? I explained to her that she should treat people with a bit more dignity and respect and she calmed down and started to retreat, but I was wound up by then and approached the barrier between us. Explaining to her that she didn't show much respect to people who could easily be forced to fight the coming war. What coming war? She flies back. Oh you don't read the news? You haven't heard? ...
At one point we were both kind of leaning in over the barrier and our voices had become quite cordial in a way - without going into hyperbole. "This is private land. How would you feel if I stepped onto your plot uninvited?" I told her that City land is not private land and this was not her own backyard and I pulled her back to reality requesting her name. She gave me her first name and I said she should give me her full name. I then told her that I would publish this experience and she gave me her wholehearted support to do so and so here it is.
The conversation got a bit convoluted thereafter and I pulled away, finally, realising too that there was no use debating with this wicked witch from Nato's eastern flank.
A woman who was surely on some board of the Military's sports culture club, or something similar, that she said rented the grounds from the city. Rest assured she did tell me that she was once an athlete and ... that argument also fizzled out into a kinda pointless statement...
