@day-dreamiest
Okay I’m struggling and I need help.
Do you ever see something, like a funny video, or hear a joke, or go to the store and see something dumb and you’re like “oh, damn! (Para) would love this!” And you pull out your phone or get up because you want to show them, but then you remember and your like
Do you ever feel bad for leaving some of your paras behind. Like a good friend you haven't talked to in a long time. When you finally remember their existence you kinda feel bad for not giving them any attention.
Maladaptive daydreaming be like
When you finally are alone, got the right music and can head into ur paracosm
yall i made a little breakthrough!!
listening to sports commentary is helping me not daydream?? it's weird because the audio is enough to be engaging and not leave me bored while i do stuff, but it's not material i can daydream with! :))))
✨Your paracosm is valid and so are you✨
So, lemme tell y'all something. I'm in a few MaDD discord servers, and people tend to infodump about their paracosm and/or paras. Some other people don't want to, because they say their paracosms are "too boring", or "too cliche".
Oh, hear me out. It doesn't matter if your paracosm has the biggest lore in the history of lores, and it doesn't matter if it's just a bunch of unrelated scenes. You're not creating a story for the sake of creating a story, you're using daydreaming as a coping mechanism. Some people like making their paracosms have a plot, some don't. Some just want a daydream to make themselves feel better. I myself have two main paracosms, one where there's a really long plot, and the other that's just for cute little scenes to calm myself down when I feel sad.
And that's valid too! Is your paracosm a really complex fantasy world? Is it irl? It's something that looks like it belongs in a disney movie? That's valid too! You daydream for yourself and yourself only, nobody has the right to tell you that your paracosm is "too cliche" or "too boring". So don't be afraid to talk about your paracosm, even if it's a simple story. Make as many drawings or picrews as you want, as many written stories as you want, heck, make memes about your paracosm and if you want to, send them to people that know what's about. There's NOTHING more fun than talking to someone about your paracosm and act as if it was some anime and you were the fanbase.
You're valid, MaDD is a problem, and a serious one, and people with MaDD don't need more people telling them that their coping mechanism is "too cliche".
Not me desperately trying to research languages so I can make my daydreams more accurate
Maladaptive daydreaming be like
Ah yes thank you MADD for driving me to create very specific playlists that are otherwise useless and just a strange combinations of songs
Do you guys also have this thing when you discover a new book/series/movie/anime/etc. and you already know it's going to play a huge part in your daydreams? Because same
Getting accidentally snapped back to reality while pacing is probably the most disappointing feeling ever.
Heres an idea: Tell me/show me what's the weirdest thing you've looked up for your daydreams
I'll start: my weirdest one has to be the requirements to become the prime minister of Japan (mind you I live in America)
How quickly does language change over time and how many years before a language becomes indistinguishable from what it currently is?
Is it okay to search up ‘most popular names in the 1910’s in England’ because that was most certainly what I did. Used up an hour for it. It was oddly satisfying, though.
Does anyone else like, make different versions of your para? Like they're ultimately the same person, but with slight variations.
me, reading about issues of substance abuse in a chapter of coursework about mental health: "good thing i had much healthier coping mechanisms in high school. Say No to Drugs™"
also me:
- is chronically addicted to daydreaming
- has been relying on maladaptive daydreaming to make it through the day since early high school
- chooses to daydream instead of fostering healthy social relationships
- neglects physical health because i'm so busy daydreaming that sometimes i just completely forget to eat food and drink water
- daydreams instead of doing classwork, so much so that i never get to do hobbies and things i really enjoy doing because i spend so much time using daydreaming as a way to procrastinate instead
yup definitely a healthy coping mechanism. no substance abuse here. totally fine. /s
