A brief but sweet review of Jen’s Catwoman75 zine. This one has green eyes. :)
Sorry for being MIA! It was not intentional I swear it. To be honest, getting on the computer recently has been a bit of a drag because… Netflix is literally sucking up all the data speed on the in...
Another round-up of the MCA Zine Fair, this time at The Hidden Thimble. This one includes a peek into Jen’s fabulous Catwoman75 zine (featuring the cover with the orange eyes)!
I know I’ve been woeful with updating my blog, but if you’ve come here in search of my work after attending the MCA Zine Fair, hello and welcome! You couldn’t have asked for a better impetus for me to return … Continue reading →

Sydney's MCA Zine Fair kicked off on Friday night and we were there to bask in all its crafty independent glory (and do a bit of zine-making ourselves).
Check out Spook Magazine’s photos from last weekend’s zine fair. Fabio positively smoulders, you guys!
Kat’s haul from the MCA Zine Fair!
MCA Zine Fair
Thanks to everyone who came to the MCA Zine Fair, especially if you bought a copy of Trousseau or Catwoman75 or the postcards and art prints at our stall. We’re a little bit exhausted at the moment, but watch this space for photos, including many of Fabio, and some of the zines we picked up over the weekend.
If you couldn’t make it to the MCA, or couldn’t find us, you can still grab a copy of the zine. Just email us at [email protected], and we can organise all the things.
At the MCA Zine Fair with Fabio! Come say hi on Friday and Saturday. And then join us for drinks at The Glenmore, 96 Cumberland St, The Rocks, on Saturday, from 7pm. Follow @BookThingo and @dumblydore on Twitter for updates.
I know I’ve disappeared off Tumblr for months now, but rest assured I am still working on creative things! Here’s a rough sneak peek of my #Catwoman75 zine, among other prints I’ll be selling at the zine fair at the Museum of Contemporary Art (#MCAZineFair) tomorrow and Saturday as part of the Sydney Writers Festival. I’m really excited, as it’s the first time I’m selling my work at a fair!
I will also be helping Kat/@BookThingo in selling our romance zine, Trousseau and hopefully just spreading all the romance love. And kitty love. A special guest will be attending our stall and I’m just quivering with anticipation. ;)))
Please come and say hi if you’ve the chance!
Trousseau is now listed in Trove. You can find a list of libraries that have a copy of the zine in the Trove listing. Our Dewey number is 820.809287. :)
Romance comics were in their heyday from the late 40s to 70s, so I was super thrilled to hear that comics editor, Janelle Aselin, recently initiated the FRESH ROMANCE and Rosy Press kickstarter, featuring art and stories by some prominent and amazing talents in the field today.
Fresh Romance is a brand new, monthly, all-digital romance comics magazine. It forges a new future for romance comics with diverse stories for passionate readers.
The first issue features sundry stories ranging from a clandestine, queer high school love affair to an impeccably researched and illustrated Regency-era romance. In addition to three forward-looking romances, each issue of FRESH ROMANCE delivers a relationship advice column by a quartet of divorced writers, behind-the-scenes art coverage, and a fashion report. Thanks to our ongoing anthology format, the kinds of stories we feature will be constantly evolving. The magazine will be R-rated, so while not all of the individual chapters or stories will be racy, there will be some adult content. Our goal is to bring avid comics readers and those new to comics together to enjoy the romance genre.
The project’s already reached its goal but there’s still one week left to contribute; so if you’re interested it’s not too late!
Really looking forward to seeing what else Rosy Press has to offer!
Kat had a chat with literary historian Jodi McAlister on Fifty Shades of Grey -- the books and the film! We talk about romance in film, erotica and porn, and the problematic themes in the story.
Check out page 30 of Trousseau for Kat’s list of 6 films that were worse than Fifty Shades of Grey.
Kat was able to record (with permission) some highlights from CS Pacat’s audience Q&A at Galaxy Bookshop, Sydney. If you haven’t read The Captive Prince yet, you need to pick this book up!
