Something I’m trying to be more aware of in my “look at them, they’re clearly in love” posting is the fact that, when the show was airing, watching these two college-age guys of different backgrounds, neither of whom is white and one of whom is heavily autistic-coded, start from strangers and develop a friendship like Troy and Abed’s, with such wholehearted, character-driven goofiness and emotional conflict and genuine, unmistakeable, explicitly-acknowledged love, was nearly as groundbreaking as pairing them romantically would have been, and the show deserves a lot of credit for that.

I’m not saying they didn’t accidentally create an incredible romance complete with a canonical ship name, I’m just saying that the thing they did intend to create, a pair of platonic soulmates, is also a fascinating (and important) story.

listen. i want to know when troy first started petting abed’s hair to help him calm down during a panic attack. like how often does troy do this??? did it start as just like, a thing troy did that became part of helping abed calm down?? was it something abed told him to do?? i need the answers.

So yeah Troy was in love with Abed the entire time he was dating Britta, and yeah he's a repressed gay, but can we please talk about how he was actually a pretty bad boyfriend to Britta?

He pulls Britta into his interests, like the wishing pool and inspector spacetime, and Britta really puts effort into supporting him, but he doesn't show any support for her interests in return. Like in Herstory of Dance, he's just bored of her? He makes no attempt to help Britta plan the dance even though this is something Britta really cares about. And when Britta vents to Troy about their "phallo-centric" history professor, Troy deadass interrupts her and ditches her to hang out with Abed. Like?? Show some respect. Not to mention how uncomfortable and sad Britta looks when Troy remembers freaky friday with Abed but not their one year.

I adore Troy and trobed owns my heart but it just really sucks that the S4 writers made him care so little about Britta, especially when S3 Troy "you're not the worst, you're the best" Barnes cares about her so much. Anyways Britta deserves better and I love her.

do y’all ever think about the “friends weekly” cover, and even though you can’t totally see it, you KNOW that they’re holding hands by the way their arms are laid against each other. like abed is literally reaching out to troy and troy crosses his arm over his body to reach abed? they are literally smiling ear to ear while holding hands?? how did they not know they were in love with each other????

am I reading too much into this and it's actually not that deep? as always.

but there's a moment just after Abed does his Don Draper impression with Annie (during Physical Education) where everyone starts suggesting who Abed should be doing an impression of (Shirley says Mike Brady, Britta says Jo from Facts of Life).

and I love how Troy says Calvin (Calvin and Hobbes), who obviously didn't flirt with anyone - he just spent all of his time with his best friend (another thing mentioned by Troy). I find this really indicative of Troy's desire to spend time with Abed, and focus less on any other possible romantic interest - in some way, he wishes Abed to do the same; he doesn't want him to make a Don Draper impression or something, he just wants him to be his playful friend forever, just the two of them, without changing to impress someone else.

and I know it's a pretty small and unimportant moment, I just thought it was a cute detail!
