Can you PLEASE do a mini analysis of that 50 second scene in 9.6?
Ian is wanting to take just one fucking moment to breathe… to acclimate… when suddenly the door scrapes open behind him and it looks like he prepares himself for some sort of “prison daddy” figure to burst through that archway, some person he’s expecting to make his stay in this joint hell. He turns around is is truly dumbstruck by the sight of a fellow black-haired pale guy he immediately recognizes as Mickey Milkovich.
Ian is so shocked that he can’t say anything and can’t seem to really think anything as he just gawks. Mickey smirks at Ian’s reaction, pleased to have surprised him and extra pleased that it does not seem as though Ian is unhappy to see him. In fact, Ian’s whole world, once again, has come to a complete stop. He never DREAMED of seeing Mickey again but now… here he is.
When Ian still can’t form words, Mickey answers the question he seems confident is burning on the tip of Ian’s tongue–throwing in that he basically screwed over a bunch of gangsters just to get locked up with Ian while he’s at it because this motherfucker needs to know what Mickey just did for him. It doesn’t seem as though the significance is lost on Ian as he just mouths “Holy fuck.” Mickey is enjoying Ian’s surprise and is soaking in the evidence that Ian clearly missed him as much as he missed Ian.
They take each other in another moment and Mickey, not one to get too sappy and especially not while standing directly in front of an window facing to gen pop, throws out the double entendre to end them all: “I got bottom so…. you’re up top.”
He rolls easily into his bunk to gaze smugly and lovingly up at Ian who seems to still be wrestling with what the hell is even going on.
He seems to ask himself: is this real? So he’s not mad? So… we’re together? before taking in the ease with which Mickey is watching him.
Ian regains his confidence, reassured that Mickey still loves him and this is not some sick joke. Mickey’s really here and is really happy to see him.
He climbs on top of Mickey, trapping his hand with his like he knows Mickey loves and hovers over his body, careful not to get too close too quick, just in case.
But Mickey continues to gaze lovingly up at Ian seeming to relish the experience which starts to sooth Ian into security.
He slowly lowers his body over Mickey’s, gauging the situation before really going for it. Mickey nods a little and cups the back of Ian’s head, letting him know it’s okay but Ian has to make the first move.
He inches closer and closer until he finally just goes for it.
This endgame will allow for Ian and Mickey to rebuild their trust, make up for past mistakes and lost opportunities (especially on Ian’s part), and to prepare for a future together outside of prison. Their life was never going to be easy and so eve though this road is going to be even harder than expected, at least they have each other and at least they are now completely equal.
