—FOX HAD WORRIED that Trinh might not want to be approached, as separated from the crowd as she was. He didn’t know her very well, in fact, he couldn’t recall her name off the top of his head. Luckily though she seemed willing to make friendly conversation.

There was something about the they she looked at him as he approached. A subtle recognition that made the hair on his arms raise. Misreading this as genuine anxiety, Garland gently tugged on his leash. A subtle I’m still here. Fox could help but smile. “me either, I just got here, I wasn’t even going to come but I got NAGGED into it.” Fox glanced over his shoulder, he couldn’t spot Alfonso but the mood seemed to be happy enough. “yeah, I’m sure he’s glad to be back.” He wasn’t surprised — they’d done the same thing for him after his incident as a child. Not wanting to mention that particular topic, Fox simply said: “I think welcome home parties are our specialty, someone should put that on the sign,”

on a regular day, trinh would be more than willing to let herself prattle off about anything and everything. however, just the overall atmosphere of the gathering had calmed her a bit. only a bit. she still had a lot more to say, though.

she chuckled at his answer. “it’ll definitely be a good pr deflection. especially after..everything, i guess? put it on all the brochures, posters...our museum.” trinh’s eyes widened before she took another sip. “welcome to gravity falls. welcome back parties are a hit around here. it sounds very quaint. also fits right in with our ‘homely but off’ theme going on.” she glanced at the crowds. “hmm, who nagged you to come, if you don’t mind me asking?”

—JACK COULDN’T HELP but laugh at the woman’s vain attempt at dragging information out of him. The Sheriff crossed his arms, blowing out air as though he were giving her question a long, hard thought. “well, Miss Huang, I know the sky is blue, sharks are extremely misunderstood, & cats shouldn’t drink milk,”  He grinned, knowing damn well he’d turned her suggestion on its head. “does that help your young and inquisitive mind?”

an obvious sour expression appeared on her face. “oh come on, sheriff. i already knew all of that. well, except the cat one, but i know that now. seriously. tell me something i don’t know.” she paused, then continued. “can you tell me anything about the other missing people then? has there been..any leads? i’ll take any crumb at this point. one crumb, i’ll go away. i promise.” she insisted, giving the other a disarming smile. “i keep my promises.” she sing-songed.

—GABRIEL HAD BEEN drifting around the party for the last few hours. He and his wife each doing their best to keep their children out of trouble. What was normally a herculean task at any normal party seemed blissfully easy today. Most of the children had taken to playing mini golf, which meant Jonah & Abigail were well entertained. So long as they could keep from hitting any of the other kids with putters, and baby Matthew stayed his cheerful self, the Lockharts might just manage to get through a single event with minimal stress. 

Though his eye routinely traveled over to the course, Gabriel had made good conversation with a few other parents, though each politely excused themselves with time to deal with their own kids. Finally finding himself alone, Gabriel made a b-line for the snack table. But he was interrupted half way by a flailing woman. He approached her, that ever gentle smile spreading across his features. “Hey, yeah sure I’m all ears,” Gabriel pulled on his earlobe, just to emphasize the point. “so ask away!”

the minute she was certain she had gotten their attention, trinh had put their arms down. if she was being honest, pastor gabriel would be the best candidate to ask. he was approachable, kind, and unassuming. no one would think anything of the good pastor talking to the man of the hour. it was almost perfect. the only thing left is to ask gabriel to do it. 

trinh grinned when he pulled at his earlobe, before setting her drink down and clasping her hands together. “hi, despite my day job, there are certain situations where i’m just not able to..converse with people. i was hoping you could help me talk to mr. hardy. if..that’s not too much?”

trinh chomped at a hotdog, watching the people intently. she had seen the man of the hour himself just a while ago, but couldn’t quite muster the confidence to say hi. for someone that would like to know more, trinh didn’t have it in her to ask alfonso directly. maybe part of it was that she was scared of what the answer could be. anything beyond normal just meant that every hair that stood up on the back of her neck all these years was right -- there’s something amiss about gravity falls. 

the sinking feeling she gets every time she sees the posters has come back. plopped up on her table, she spots someone walking by and decides to recruit them in her mission. there wasn’t anything wrong with that, right? she starts ti wave her arms up and down, trying to get their attention. “hey, over here! i just have a question if you’re free?” she called out.

—AT HIS secretary’s demand request, Jack was doing his damnedest to just enjoy himself. He’d left the badge at HOME, a vain attempt at both keeping himself in civilian mode, and keeping the townsfolk off his back. Not that that had stopped them from whispering among themselves the entire party. Jack didn’t mind the gossip, so long as he wasn’t being asked to dish it out. You could never stop it in a town like Gravity Falls. It was just how people were. 

Jack had just finished getting himself a drink (cranberry juice & ginger ale). He was around to head back into the crowd to mingle, but found his path obscured by a body. “oh no, I know that look,” The sheriff said, raising a brow, the note of suspicion clear in his voice. “I’m sorry but I really can’t discuss Mister Hardy’s case, regardless of the purpose of the party,”

trinh couldn’t help but roll her eyes. the whole town was abuzz with the return of alfonso hardy and she couldn’t be blamed if she wanted to wag her tongue about it. it was almost otherwordly. she just wanted information. anything. but she also didn’t want to upset the sheriff, so trinh just huffed. she’ll find out whatever she needs on her own.

“fine.” she took a sip of her drink and looked up at the him. “what can you tell me? about anything?”

—FOX COULD HARDLY believe he’d scrounged up the courage to come to the party. It was partially his sister who convinced him to go, and partially the heart-retching image of  Garland looking longingly out the window. A manipulation tactic, he was sure. But it had eaten away at him for a few days, as he weighed the pros & cons. As many cons as their were ( with the actual process of LEAVING HOME being a major one ), Fox knew the party would be heavily populated. & with Garland by his side, he could probably manage an hour or two. Now, with the large dog hovering protectively around his legs, Fox was only focused on distracting himself. Anything to help quell the nauseating wave of anxiety which had been haunting him for the past fifteen minutes. For a while, he could only hover around the edges of the crowd, until he spotted someone alone. He approached them slowly, offering a small “hi” and a friendly smile. “so uh - how’s the party going so far?” He cringed a little. His social skills always faltering when he was stressed.

it was a bit difficult to really come out and enjoy anything. trinh didn’t have anything against alfonso hardy, but as someone who frequented the missing person posters every single day, she was more than curious about why alfonso would be the first one. truthfully enough, she had a huge itch - curiosity itch - that she wanted to scratch. and maybe this little welcome party could give her some information. she had sneakily grabbed one of the smaller, foldable tables and set up her own spot. it between soda sips and hotdogs, trinh looked intensely at the other partygoers. “you tell me. i haven’t talked to anybody at all.” she took a quickl glance at the other. she wasn’t too familiar with fox himself, but she was a fan of his books - not that she’d freak out about it right now. “it’s nice..that we’re doing this for mister hardy, though. i think it’s good that we can come together as a small town.”

is that LANA CONDOR? nah, they wouldn’t come out to gravity falls. it’s just TRINH HUANG, the TWENTY ONE year old MUSEUM DOCENT/GUIDE at the GRAVITY FALLS MUSEUM OF HISTORY. people ‘round here sure do love to talk  —  i’ve heard they live at CARRIAGE HOUSE APARTMENTS, and that they’re SACCHARINE & WITTY as well as INTENSE & LOQUACIOUS. but when i think of the HUMAN, all that comes to mind is: museum brochures scattered on a table, tight ponytail with a bright colored scrunchy, notebooks stacked on top of each other, dark-colored sneakers doing a tiptoe, thick textbooks opened up to complex illustrations. SHE’S always blasting LA CIENAGA by 88RISING when i walk past. no one thinks there’s anything strange going on with them, but i know better.   ( jess, 20, cst )

i have a cute lil about page here, but i’ll set up a plots page sooon! here’s some quick tidbits about trinh though!

trinh’s family moved to town when she was two and never moved anymore

growing up, the huang sisters (trinh and mai) has always been competitive, but the two love each other very much and will always stick up for the other

graduating in the top 10% of the class, trinh had every chance to leave town for an out-of-town college, but she chose to stay citing that her life was in gravity falls and she wasnt quite ready to leave

currently a college student at the community college with a business major and a history minor. 

works at the museum as a guide. she’s always got a pep to her step and a clear, demanding voice rattling off the obscurest of facts about the town

hidden inside her shrill person is a curious mind. trinh has always had the feeling that something was going on, but she couldnt quite put a finger on it. but she liked getting lost in the forest greens and staying up past midnight to experience everything.

despite being nice and sweet (on a good day), she is quite the blabbermouth. it comes in handy for her work, but not so much anything else. she tries her hardest to keep secrets though, but her poker face needs a lot of work.
