Is it socially acceptable to use opaque watercolors, or is that considered gouache?
I should have finished my Meeker Sheepdog Art Show submission before Art Fight started. Now I'm needing/wanting to work on both. 😭
I got my Meeker submission done. I have some attacks roughed and some traced down. One is even inked. They WILL be finished by the end of the event.
Happy Independence Day!
I created this piece for a 250th anniversary themed show back in January and forgot to post it. No better day than today.

Playing with some sequential stuff. Almost time for shit to get real at work. (Tho tbh I don't think it will be quite as grueling as last year. We lost a lot of our service area to a new station.)
I dunno if I'll have time but I would like to crank out some coworker ref sheets for Art Fight. I only have a few kind of designed and just came up with names for a couple of them. I'm feeling like once they get new names, I'll be able to divorce them further from their irl source in my head.
An art gifting game
Since it's ALMOST TIME and I don't think I've posted a link for this year. I don't always get a lot done, but I try to at least revenge attacks.
Why do art galleries love to market with AI generated materials? idgi. I'm mostly seeing it from non-profit types that probably have a limited staff and budget so I kind why it is tempting to use, but still.
Another warehouse worker. This time one that is not a great coworker, but extremely entertaining.
I'm trying to figure out how to describe this guy. I just keep thinking of the clip of Patrick Star saying "The inner machinations of my mind are an enigma." Including the spilled milk. Patrick probably isn't off for vibes in general, lol.
Young. Friendly. Moves very slow, which is one reason I was inspired by sloths for the coat pattern (though still within dog color genetics because that's fun for me.) Cognitively a bit slow too, but self inflicted to a degree because of substance issues. I was trying to figure out cynocephali alcohol and drug equivalents a couple months ago because I have waaaay too many coworkers these problems. It's kinda sad.
Fired after day one at Bluemart (What I will be calling the Walmart equivalent lol). Will wander off during shifts. Takes the longest/slowest route to anything. Asks to go home constantly. Takes the fastest paced shifts with the smallest crews, creating a heavier workload for all the other associates, earning the ire of much of the staff (Beck and Ace included). He earnestly says or does some of the most ridiculous things, so it almost makes it bearable.
Clumber spaniel inspired for the face. I'd say setter and LGD for size/substance vibes.
TW suicide joke? Based on actual exchanges so I forgot it might need a content warning.
Managed to get one coworker ref sheet done before Art Fight. I've got another in progress that I would like to get done based on someone I did not care to work with.
Tentatively naming this character Ace. A young, competent and thus overworked, assistant manager based on my favorite coworker.
Easiest description of this character's demeanor I can think of is an early 20s Ron Swanson combined with Ben Wyatt. Oh, and you can add some Grumpy Cat, too. Went to a military school and is training to be a commercial pilot. Started as a regular employee and promoted. Has high standards for self and others. Sternly calls people on their bs and which upsets the bs-er. Gets called "mean" because he doesn't take shit. Able to be LOUD.
He's actually super hilarious because of his frank and/or dramatic reactions. Chill and fun once you earn his respect...by doing your job without being baby sat or complaining.
Enables Beck's inner bitch. Will verbalize what she is thinking, but too nlce to say. Bonded over mutual competency and disdain for idiots that make them do more work. The amount of shit talking done is probably not healthy.
Laekenois-ish but not exactly. I wanted the mal vibes for the military background, but needed scruff to look like my coworker. I realized border terriers might be a good color ref this morning when I was looking up hand stripping.

Earlier this month I went to a "book fest" hosted by the local library. I had applied to be a vendor, got wait listed, then offered a spot, but there was a scent work trial the same weekend, so I did that instead. The location has been my worst for sales, so I figured the dog event actually was the better use of my time, lol.
Anyway, I was done early enough to get over to the book fest and talked to a bunch of the vendors. SCBWI chapter was there and they gave me some really good info that I want to pass on here.
Members get access to resources including a listing of publishers, their contact info, if they take open submissions, etc. IT IS KEPT UP TO DATE! Honestly, having that info compiled by someone else is worth the price of a membership.
I'm going to do a free for members portfolio critique session in a couple of months, so hopefully this might be the kick start I need to actually get some freelance work outside of pet portraits.
I like it when my friends make art shout out to friends making art
I am so awful about checking my instagram dms. I rarely go on insta in the first place. I also have pretty much abandoned regular updates on my Facebook page because of Meta's AI bs. Now I'm getting legit looking phishing emails from people trying to access my business page????? It's making me want to delete it. I basically just use Meta as socmed for people I know in person and now I'm in a bunch of photo reference groups which actually have been pretty useful.
Ken Carlson’s latest exhibition, Ken Carlson Presents: Wyoming’s Big 10, will be at Astoria Fine Art in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, from Septembe
I checked out the book The Heart of a Collection: National Museum of Wildlife Art at my local library. There were several pieces by Ken Carlson, who I was not familiar with, but liked what I saw, so mostly sharing this as a reminder to me!
Reblogs in a chain now get their own notes
The reblog chain is one of the things that makes Tumblr unlike anywhere else. All the notes on reblogs are attributed to the original post, no matter which branch people actually liked or reblogged. We want to keep encouraging conversations, and give contributors the recognition they deserve.
Soon, you'll be able to like, reblog, or reply to any part of a reblog chain, and that note will go to that reblog's author. Each reblog will have its own counts, instead of one aggregated number from every version of the post. And yes, you’ll be able to like multiple posts in one chain.
If a reblog doesn't add anything, the love flows up to the last person in the chain who did. Your post doesn't lose notes just because people spread it quietly.
Past notes will stay on the original post — we're only changing what happens from here on out. Retroactively re-attributing all of them would be... a lot.
This is just the beginning. More changes are coming as we keep building this out – stay tuned!
This is horrible I can't see the number of notes on my posts at all without adding up everything in the chain
Cursed cursed cursed evil evil evil
This is a terrible idea. Horrible.
EXTREMELY BAD HOLY FUCK.
This would kill the entire point of the reblog chain. Staff, please, don't do this. It will transform the reblog chain in just plain twitter quotes.
Seriously, this is a tumblr-killer feature. This breaks the most fundamental way tumblr is different from any other social network. This makes tumblr just another blueskytwitterthreads. Or worse: An unfederated mastodon clone.
Please, stop this. Please, don't roll this out.
Please, mutuals, post about this, comment and reblog the original post (while you still can without making it your own quote-post). I don't know if staff is looking or if the feedback would matter, but seriously, this is a terrible change that would kill tumblr as we know it. Please, don't roll it out.
look, I can endure any kind of UI changes that are supposed to help tumblr-rookies to understand how this works. They may be a nuisance, but that's ok, we have x-kit or we can get used to buttons being here or there.
But this. This changes the data architecture. This changes the SINGLE THING that makes tumblr the "... yes and" website. This KILLS THE COLLABORATIVE POSTING THAT MAKES THIS SITE DIFFERENT FROM ALL THE OTHER MEDIA PLATFORMS.
Please, don't do this. Please, don't ship this.
Tumblr has explicitly said in the past that they do not look at comments on their updates posts. You have to PUT IN A SUPPORT TICKET AND SELECT FEEDBACK FROM THE DROPDOWN
