If my world cannot be titled, why should this world be? My world is unwritten and unedited, my life is titled only as my name. I would rather people title me as how they see me, make judgments if they want, if they want they can even name me what they want. I shall not put my name here, names mean everything in the world. We live and tell everyone who we are by our name yet few see us for real. so I dare you to see my soul and name me as you will.

So, I am making my dress for a ball that I am going to and I would like some advice. My favorite color is red, but I don't currently have suitable fabric to make a red ball gown, so I would need to buy some. Meanwhile, I have plenty of a deep blue fabric that I wouldn't generally use for clothing because it's not natural fibers, but if it's just for the ball then I don't feel bad using it for a one wear thing. If I bought red or black, I know exactly how I would do the dress, but the blue seems like it needs to be more complicated to look good and not boring.. what should I do?

If I do the red dress, the bottom would likely be like the skirt I am wearing in this picture, but not 100% cotton and very worn lol. The blue I would likely have to do something like the right side doll gown to make it not look plain. I realized a basic idea of the plan may be helpful

Thank you both for the feedback! Unfortunately, joanns didn't have any fancy red fabric on sale for cheap (the fabrics that would be worthy were like $30 a yard and I don't have that kinda money). I did, however, find a pretty embroidered translucent cloth that will make the blue darker and more pretty. It has flowers and stuff. I have no clue how well it will work out, but I'm going to give it a shot. I really would've gone with red if I could have, but with a semi tight deadline and definitely tight pursestrings... I will have to make it work. I will keep you all informed. I appreciate those of you who weighed in and I appreciate your patience. <3

The ball is tonight and while I wasn't able to make the cape/cloak, or use the pretty embroidered fabric, I think the dress looks pretty damn good. The top took way longer than the skirt and was a pain in the ass, but I made it a corset back and it looks pretty great considering all the issues I ran into. Please excuse the disaster in the background, its been rough.

For privacy reasons, my husband would rather me not post the picture with him in it, but the dress turned out beautifully, and it fit wonderfully, staying comfortable even when I ate and drank :) first time I've been completely comfortable at a ball after eating and everything. Also, the confidence gained when people commented on my dress that I made myself was amazing. :)

home so I can elaborate: I tried them on for five minutes. Takeaways:

Guy doing the testing things responded to my concerns about privacy with "yeah, that's entirely fair"

Talking out loud to a pair of glasses feels stupid as fuck even in a room with an audience specifically for testing the glasses. I cannot imagine having to make requests of the glasses in any public space without feeling like a sellout dork on par with cybertruck owners.

Glasses accurately, but inefficiently (and imo insufficiently) described the people I was looking at, by mentioning them one by one, describing everything about their clothing in between. Maybe this is just me, but I feel like "three people standing in front of me" should be the first piece of information, not "a person in front of you with dark hair standing and wearing scrubs and white shoes holding a clipboard. A person to the left of you with long brown hair standing and wearing scrubs and white shoes. A person to the right of you-"

Glasses stop describing any time someone says anything and also, sometimes, if nothing happens at all. The wait time for it to resume is the perfect amount of seconds for it to feel awkward, which is impressive.

Glasses inaccurately described the office / eye test room I was in as a theater storage area, presumably because there was wood in it. Told it to stop doing this when it started describing everything in the room, fairly inaccurately based on this assumption.

Asked it to read a book page for me. Took three attempts at asking for it to do so. Took a picture of the page, processed, read the chapter number and three words, and stopped. Guy said sometimes you have to tell it to continue. Asked it to continue reading. It resumed describing the room from before.

How does anyone use these and think they're cool

I can see them hypothetically being an accessibility tool but honestly only if they had a keypad command input option. Having to state everything aloud is just so awkward, especially at the volume it needs to register. Like I don't want to sit in a nice restaurant and loudly instruct my glasses to read the menu to me just to get a handful of prices and no words. If there were a communication keyboard style mix and match for simple commands (or even just "read", "id", "find (option)") that could be sent and received quietly, maybe. MAYBE. but it utterly failed at the main things a low vision accessibility device is even for. AND they look stupid.

3/10. Accessibility glasses are a good concept but, unfortunately, it's Meta and sucks.

I always get really weirded out when other queer people mock my disability bc it's like wait, aren't you supposed to be woke? isn't that off limits because of morals and such? or it just that if you don't like someone enough, they cease to be human and anything is on the table?

like yes, I have psoriatic arthritis that I take immunosuppressants for, and I experience medical complications from both the disease and the treatment. the only context I bring it up is in little personal posts every now and then, where I talk about issues I've had with doctors, or new medications I'm trying. I don't know what kind of brain can read a post about me struggling with my rheumatologist, and think "yes, this is juicy, I can use this in my mockery."

I dunno. it's genuinely beyond me.
