‘The Crew’ - A book review by Jozey Samuel
‘The Crew’ follows the story of 5 best mates; Billy, Will, Jas, Della and Ellie and their lazy mascot dog something. And their lives in a ghetto like London neighborhood where sketchy street corners, working-girls, drug dealers and gangs are just part of the Scenery as well as their daily lives.
When I first saw this book I didn’t think much of it, it was just another book I picked up hoping it would clench my bored, and boy was I right. The book at first allows you to become familiar with the story’s main protagonists, giving you an idea of the lives they lead and the things they have to deal with one a daily basis such as; being eyed down by cops, ‘interacting’ with other Gangs, and just overall have a great time when they can.
Things quickly take a turn for the worst after they find a bag of money which leads to a series of heart pumping events and plot twists which link together beautifully. The story is so well written and presented in a unique manner that it will have you at the edges of your seats, I especially liked how their chapters were presented instead of the traditional Chapter names they were the dates of the current time of the story e.g. Chapter 19 - Thursday Afternoon.
Overall ‘The Crew’ is an amazing real life, gritty, and exacting read and I highly recommend picking it up.
