#PrayForMadinah After this, I can’t comprehend the mindset that still indicates ISIS has anything to do with islam.
This week was a bloodbath for muslims. How can we celebrate Eid now.
Does Donald Trump want a registry for all Muslims? Or just some Muslims? Or no database at all? The Republican presidential candidate’s comments on the topic have drawn a lot of criticism, with some pundits and commentators comparing it with the registration of Jews in in Nazi Germany. But Trump has said he didn’t propose such an idea -- a reporter did, and Trump just didn’t understand the question. His comments and the media coverage of them have left us confused, so we did a deep dive into what exactly Trump said about registering Muslim people in a database. After ...
Day 30/ Reason 30: #NeverTrump
My dislike of Trump is inseparable from my Jewish heritage and my experiences interviewing Holocaust survivors. In sixth grade, as a part of my english class, I had the opportunity to ask questions to several Holocaust survivors to be recorded in a documentary-- so that their stories wouldn't be forgotten. Some of their experiences made me cry: losing friends and family, watching their loved ones burned alive. But probably the eeriest part of their stories were how normal their lives were before the terror began. They were kids. They had families. They were like *us*. But then people started ostracizing them, blaming them for all the troubles Europe was experiencing. One race as the scapegoat for a nation.
If you cannot see that this is what Donald Trump does with Mexicans and Muslims, open your eyes. Seriously read his statements. Watch his interviews. Watch him avoid answering questions directly like "would you make all Muslims register in a database." Because guess what? The correct answer for that is OF COURSE I WOULDN'T! But he falters. He vomits out a string of words like the following:
"But I do want databases for those people coming in, but I also insist on a wall. And it was all fine, all of a sudden I end up with some story, and I’m saying, what are you talking about? So here’s the story -- just to say it clear -- I want surveillance of these people. I want surveillance if we have to, and I don’t care. Are you ready for this folks? Are you ready? They’re going to make it such a big deal … I want surveillance of certain mosques."
That literally means nothing? And a candidate who can't give a clear-as-day answer on whether or not they'd require all members of a religion to REGISTER is UNVIABLE. People look in Trumps alphabet soup of words and pick and choose the ones that they want to believe. But when you really read them, when you look closely (and watch as many of his interviews as I now have) you realize that most of them are just... garbage. Inconsistent, contradictory garbage. Look. I'm not saying Trump is Hitler. I'm not saying he would definitely make all Muslims register, but I will say this: he has a clear penchant for making them scapegoats for all American problems. And when it comes to a question as simple as whether or not he'd replicate one of Hitler's Actual Policies, he can't bring himself to answer with a hard "no".
A Thing That Happened To Me Today
Blog slackin’! Day 29 is late because I'm MOURNING, OK?? Let me grieve. Day 30 later today. The world is so strange like wasn't Paul Ryan just dissing Trump a month or two ago? Now he's on board to #MakeAmericaHateAgain. Center-leaning repubs... I know you're out there.. Plz don't follow in Ryan's footsteps.
Day 28 and the 28th reason why Trump is just... yuck. You can disapprove of someone's project without using childish insults. Especially if you, like, wanna be president.
Day 27/ reason 27 #NeverTrump
Tweet from Trump implying Obama doesn't talk enough about Pearl Harbor, coupled with a past picture of Obama paying his respects at Pearl Harbor memorial in Honolulu. Trump: it is possible to care about both American AND Japanese lives lost. So so possible. This theme of disregarding lives that aren't American keeps coming up again and again in the Trump campaign and I don't love it. We all know that the point of Obama's Hiroshima visit was not to say we did wrong or that Japan did right in WWII-- he is making the very human decision to recognize and grieve in the GENERATINAL damage that the bomb and its lingering radiation had. A failure to acknowledge the tragedy of that is ridiculous.
DAY 26. The 26th reason why #NeverTrump is my election policy. And the conclusion of #BIRTHERWEEKEND! I know you've all been waiting for this like a new episode of Game of Thrones. How does it end? What does Trump say about Obama's birth now?
Answer: He doesn't say anything, because he can't admit he was wrong. "I don't talk about that anymore" -- Donald Trump on whether or not Obama is a "legitimate" president, in 2016. Cites that he won't answer because the media will talk about his response. YES the media will talk about your answer because it is IMPORTANT??? Like jeez. You spent millions of dollars trying to disprove his birthplace and NOW you don't want to talk about it or admit you were wrong. Sounds like the kind of person we want running the country -___-
DAY 25 of listing reasons why I am #NeverTrump and you may not wanna be either. That One Where We Examine Hillary Ties to Birtherism.
Holy mackerel. DJT (my new nickname for Trump since I have been spending so much time with him-- err-- his online presence) has been on a roll w the terrible tweets recently. So wacky that I almost postponed today's #BIRTHERWEEKEND. BUT NO. DJT will not interrupt our regularly scheduled program-- his new ramblings will wait until Tuesday. 186 days seems puny at this point-- there's like 500 days worth of material with this guy.
Today I wanted to talk about a claim that gets thrown around a lot by Republican candidates: that Hillary was the "original birther" in 2008 when she ran in the primary against Obama. I actually kind of believed this just because it seems plausible, but then I actually USED THE GOOGLE (#usethegoogle), and lo and behold: while some of Clinton's supporters seem to have started the "Obama was born in Kenya" claim, she or her campaign never endorsed or had any ties to them.
Did her 2008 campaign benefit from it? Maybe a tiny bit, but by the time the rumor really started she was already outta there. Did she ENDORSE this xenophobic conspiracy movement? Nah. She didn't. And she's openly and strongly spoken out against it.
And that's what makes candidates like Hillary or Bernie or heck, even John Kasich so much more suitable than Trump. They do not give their endorsement to unverified claims, willy nilly, without doing their damn research (or having their campaign staff do so). That's what Trump does. With the birther movement itself and will blaming someone else for starting it. Lies and goes back on lies and lies again. Please, DJT, I beg of you: #UseTheGoogle

DAY 24/ REASON 24
THROWBACK TO 2011! #BIRTHERWEEKEND because I strongly believe we should have a president that doesn’t get wrapped up in ill-founded conspiracy theories, yo. #NEVERTRUMP
Awesome interview in which he basically says disproving Obama’s birth is more important than any other policy issues lol. Also in case you were wondering why he says some of the things he does, they are completely false claims based on snippets of an old translated-from-swahili interview with the then 86 year old Sarah Obama. Text below. TRUMP CAN U NOT USE GOOGLE??
“The edited portion that often makes the rounds on the Internet includes this part of the interview:
McRae: "Could I ask her about his actual birthplace? I would like to see his birthplace when I come to visit Kenya in December. Was she present when he was born in Kenya?"
"She says yes she was. She was present when Obama was born," said the translator.
Smoking gun? Only if you stop the tape there and don't listen to the rest of the interview.
McRae immediately followed up by saying, "Okay, when I come in December, I would like to go by the place, the hospital where he was born. Could you tell me where he was born? Was he born in Mombasa?"
The translator can be heard translating, and then, he said, "No. Obama was not born in Mombasa. He was born in America."
Said McRae: "Whereabouts was he born? I thought he was born in Kenya."
The response came back, "He was born in America, not in Mombasa."
"Do you know where he was born?" McRae continued. "I thought he was born in Kenya. I was gonna go by and see where he was born."
"Hawaii. She says he was born in Hawaii," the translator said. "In the state of Hawaii, where his father, his father was also learning there. The state of Hawaii."
"I thought she said she was present," McRae said. "Was she able to see him being born in Hawaii?''
"No, no," the translator said. "...She was not ... she was here in Kenya. Obama was born in America ... Because the grandmother was back in Kenya and Obama was born in America, where he is from, where his father was learning, learning in America, the United States."”

Trump's energy speech. Dear lord. It is so strange to study something for 5 years and then watch someone just lie about it?? Like the weirdest feeling?? How can someone so blatantly ignore facts and misrepresent policy? As someone who studies and works in this field, pardon me for the longer than usual/ written-on-the-metro Day 22/ Reason 22 to #NeverTrump rant: Environmental issues aren't a side concern. Regulations aren't evil and money-draining. They are necessary to mitigate the GLOBAL problem of climate change. That's right, Trump fans, the US is not the only country in the world. And the US is not the only country that deserves safety, clean water, and clean air!! News flash, I know. By pledging to dredge up all the fossil fuels the US has to offer, Trump seeks to deny us ALL-- our own country and others-- a healthy planet.
India is currently suffering record droughts. Farmers are committing suicide out of guilt for not being able to provide for the families and an inability to repay their loans. The Marshall Islands, Tuvalu, and other small island states are DISAPPEARING under the water that WE melted from ice. The EPA didn't do that with their evil regulations Donald. Decades of limitless emissions did. The Paris Agreement was not "unilateral." At. All. Do you actually not know what unilateral means? 196 countries committed to reducing global emissions together to prevent warming-- you call that unilateral? How?
WIND ENERGY IS NOT A HUGE THREAT TO BIRDS!!!!! Like how are people still saying this!!? Yes it can kill some populations but you know what kills even more birds?? Cats!! Domesticated cats!! Trump: if you're gonna kill wind power because it can kill an eagle, you're gonna have to kill all the cats too. And if some eagle deaths disappoint you then you're just gonna LOVE it when the sixth mass extinction event of plants and animals starts to happen because of climate change. Oh wait, THAT IS NOW LOL. We are in CURRENTLY EXPERIENCING THAT EXTINCTION EVENT!!
Let's get this straight once and for all: denying/ minimizing climate change and committing to dredge up all the fossil fuels the US has is pretty evil. You know who climate change/ resource pollution/ depletion hurts the most? Poor and minority populations. This is a fact. I encourage everyone reading this to do some research and keep this in mind the next time you hear the kind of energy rhetoric that Trump spews.
PS: It's funny how people say Hillary caters too much to the needs of oil and gas companies, but Trump is the one who wants to line their pockets.
A Day 21/ Reason 21 Diptych #NeverTrump
In which Trump continues to fan the fear flames re: terrorism although he has consistently neglected to look seriously into gun violence
Day 20!!/ Reason 20 why we should #NeverTrump
Oh geez. I hate to break it to you Donald, but not everyone thinks like you. Most people can differentiate between “a black individual” and “every single black person and the entire black community.” THAT IS RACIST, dude.
You’re implying we’re racist, but also saying that it’s sad we are, so.... is that a small nugget of a win for you, ethically? God, you set a low bar for yourself. So, so low.
Gotta study up-- those reasons ain't gonna find themselves 💁
Their conclusions? "A tariff of 45% on imports from China and Japan and 35% on Mexican imports would cost U.S. households in the lowest 10% of income up to 18% of their (mean) after-tax income or $4,670 over 5 years"
Day 19/ Reason 19: #NeverTrump
Real economists analyze the tariff plans that Trump has been touting around. Taxing imports so steeply is a terrible terrible idea that would make us all worse off. Common sense, enumerated by some folks who know economic policy far better than I do.
Day 18/ reason 18 to #NeverTrump
The One Where Trump Insults A Woman's Looks (Again)
