I'm a bit confused on which pokemon is Giovanni's Ace. Because, obviously, everyone has agreed he's a cat-dad because of the anime and the 'Mafia Boss loves Cats' trope.

But in other sources, it seems like Nidoking is his Ace, as in Masters EX he literally has a suit theme around that pokemon and I think he has a also genuine affection for his Nidoking.

Then in Pokémon Origins, he's Ace seems to be Rhyhorn/Rhydon but I can understand he just picks those two to beat Red and he probably has like other powerful pokemon he kept in storage. What do you think?

Okay so to my understanding an Ace pokemon is the strongest pokemon on a team, one that best represents its trainer's preferred type.

To me it's a choice between Rhydon and Nidoking. In pokemon Let's Go Giovanni does have a painting of a Rhydon in his office, so you could argue that Rhy would be his Ace.

Personally, though, I'm leaning towards Nidoking, it's both the pokemon he has a sygna suit with (if you want to count pokEX), and a pokemon he consistently has on his team. For example, in UsUm and BW2 tournament he has neither Rhydon/Rhyhorn but has Nido.

All in all, I assume that in the pkmn universe most people train their favorite pokemon as their Ace, but that's not the case for Giovanni.

As you've said, his Persian is definitely used to enhance the whole 'evil mafia boss who loves his cat' gimmick: it knows Pay Day and is described as a pokemon owned for status. It's good, but not the best, it's not on his team that often, it's no ground type. And yet, that Persian is Giovanni's giant lap cat. His itty bitty dear kitty with a 400 psi power bite who gets the finest tuna Magicarp treats

This has been my personal project for a while now and I feel like I have reached a point where I can start sharing it with all you guys out there! It is not complete yet, but can definitely already provide utility for everyone interested!

How does it work?

Below you will find a link to Google Drive. This Google Drive contains all the references currently available.

It is free to download for everyone.

I plan to regularily add more heroes as I work my way through all 39 (soon 40) of them. ...damn that... is a lot

PSA: For fan works, reblog and like from OP

I really hope Tumblr staff reverses course and reverts to the original reblog system for the sake of the large base of creators who use this site to share their works, but until then, please be considerate and make sure the creators here see/feel the love.
