It always blows my mind when people are so surprised and offended when the demons from obey do morally questionable things. Like y'all know they are demons right? Throughout the entire story almost all of them try to k*ll the mc (amongst other things) at least once. One of them actually succeeds! It's pretty obvious from the beginning that they don't have the same morals/standards that humans do (Demons remember?). The plot literally starts off with mc being spirited away without knowledge or consent, then essentially told, "You're here for a year champ, try not to piss anyone off and get m*rdered! :D" I guess an otome game about morally grey demons at best just isn't for everyone. Go figure.

It’s not about them being demons, It’s not about the fact that these characters are “morally grey,” it’s about the trivialization of a very scary, and real situation that has happened to countless people and treating it like a simple plot point. 

So I put this on a reply to another post, but I’ll also put it here. In one study conducted by alcohol.org found that out of 900 people surveyed (both men and women) 44% of men and 56% of women have consumed something that had been spiked without them knowing. of those two groups, 37% have experienced it multiple times. Men are more likely to be spiked by someone they consider a friend, while women are more likely to be spiked by a stranger, with house parties accounting for a majority of the locations. What’s more, 58% of men and 65% of women don’t believe they can confidently convict the person who spiked them, with 52% of men and 62% of women NOT REPORTING THE PERSON WHO SPIKED THEM, with only 15% of them having a friend who intervened and got them to safety. Most often, drugged products are used to facilitate drug-assisted s*xual assault, and most of these crimes also go unreported. (My source here)

So some simple math there, of a survey group, approximately 44%-56% of people were drugged without their knowledge, and only 15% of those drugs were able to get to safety because of friends. so that means that 85% of people who were drugged in this study had NO ONE to help them. NO ONE. 

this isn’t about hating on the characters, it’s about criticizing the choices of the company that went through ideation, story boarding, programing, editing, beta testing, and planning and still didn’t think twice about the potential backlash this has against their audience. This is about people who have PTSD, people who still have to hang around certain people who did horrible things to them because no one would believe them. This is about turning real tangible struggles into entertainment, but it’s okay because MmMmM He’S hOt ThO aNd He’S a DeMoN. IRL hot people use drugs to assault too. People who you thought were your friends use drugs to assault too. 

This doesn’t just happen in a game about demons either, and it’s actually one of the reason some of my friends have dropped off from the Otome genre altogether. It’s rather common and unfortunate that a lot of Japanese based games have at minimum a couple incidents of non-con per route as a way of making “sexy times.” This is an entire cultural plague that I can get into on another post, but it’s causing a lot of us who do really love otomes feel alienated from the community. By defending it, you’re basically saying that this cultural norm is okay so long as the character is hot. By being that “innocent person” who needs a “Strong aggressive push” from a “morally grey” man, you’re basically going back to the 1960′s with women being subservient to their assaulter because you showed them a little ankle, so you tempted them. 

It’s dangerous, it’s wrong, and it’s not healthy for any relationship, and can have catastrophic backlash. Some people may think this is what a healthy relationship looks like, and bases their ideas of romance off it. Some may not be even able to read it because it reminds them too much of their own personal experiences. It’s not just fiction. It’s basically being said that this kind of behavior is “Expected” and “normal.” 

We shouldn’t be okay with this being “normal” and we should hold companies like this to a higher standard. They aren’t just a company that is constrained to Japan, because they made the decision to have their game translated, and distributed to english markets. This was a CHOICE, and has nothing to do with “morally grey” characters. This is a game directed at the general masses for entertainment, not Catcher and the Rye.

Are you really trying to go to bat and defend the game? Everything that can be said about WHY this is just overtly insensitive is in Lyric's post. Having morally grey characters is different than using real world horrific trauma as a one-off easy plot element. Pretty sure you've never been teleported to another world without consent before, hm? Using those instances is comparing apples to oranges. One is a major plot element that doesn't reflect real world traumas unless you fuckin squint until you start hallucinating a bit maybe. The other is the trivial usage of inexcusable crimes committed against real people in the real world all the time.

OM!/Shall we Date doesn't need anyone to defend their writing or invalidate critiques of it. Critiquing of anything put out for the public eye is valid, whether any given consumer agrees or disagrees with the critique's content.

I can understand not wanting to critique fantasy fiction in relation to real world problems for your own sanity, that's fine. What's not fine is going out trying to invalidate the points people are making about it because it's not something that strikes you as problematic or hurts you in particular.

In case anyone hasn't played it yet, please be advised that Lucifer's 2021 birthday event includes MC being drugged into unconsciousness without their consent, via a drink they are given without warning.

Six characters in total sign off on this being a good idea (Barbatos, Diavolo, Solomon, Satan, Beel, Belphegor (Beel is slightly mislead)).

Lucifer is also drugged, and both MC and Lucifer have their boundaries trampled on in other ways - from having people participate in the event who aren't wanted, to kisses that there is no option to consent/decline.

As an abuse survivor and with trauma that took a lot of therapy to work through, I got triggered really badly, and I know I'm not the only one.

There was no need for the plot points to be carried out in this way AT ALL. It was completely unnecessary.

If this didn't effect you, that's great. But please don't dismiss or erase the hurt to real people that has been caused by this writing.

I didn't expect my MC to be fucking roofied.

My apologies for not specifying which part this takes place in -

The drugging is in the upper branch of page 2 of the event, though I believe there's an unavoidable kiss with Lucifer on each branch of page 2 as well.

Page 1 has two characters imposing themselves on events against Lucifer's wishes (and it's his birthday even, so, jeez). The upper branch of page 2 has more of that happening as well.

The lower branch of page 2, minus the kiss not having a choice, is very sweet and about how much Mammon, Levi, and Asmo care for Lucifer, with Lucifer praising them too.

As I said before, the troubling parts are all completely unnecessary and could have been written differently in MANY ways that wouldn't have been triggering 💖

I don't remember who coined this so, my apologies... oof, but anyway- "If you can use anything other than r*pe, don't use r*pe." It's not that fucking hard to not write about extremely sensitive, real world trauma related plot devices in your fictional demon world. It really just shouldn't be that difficult.

The fact that this made it by a writing team, editing team, likely some level of PR oversight, AND processes of translation? Sigh... Like Venny said, I'm very glad I've stopped reading Otome in general (I think Ven might be on a break, don't let me mislead you!) I myself am done for various reasons, but this repeat behavior doesn't help.

Okay, firstly, this situation is confusing. It was, and it still is. But, I will try to explain everything to you guys.

Why did you delete your first account?

I got a new email, and I didn't know that my blog would get deleted (I was very new). But, it did. So, I made another one just a after a few moments. And, I think I mentioned it somewhere on my new blog.

That's that. Why did you delete your next one, then?

Okay, so, I don't know if you guys will believe me or not, but I was kinda like one of the youngest writers in this fandom. And...I sometimes felt like I didn't...belong here? Even though I will be an adult in the blink of an eye, I felt like I should stop writing on here. It was hard to delete my blog, because I had a few friends on here and I loved talking to them and writing. But, one day, my mind was made up, and I just deleted my account. And, also because I realized that the internet isn't a safe place.

The mistake that I made was to not tell anyone. And, well, people started making assumptions.

If you didn't have a Tumblr account, then how did you get to know about this issue?

I was reading an Ikevamp related content on Google, and when I scrolled down, a person was getting anon hate. And, when I scrolled past further, boom! there came some posts about me.

I immediately thought about how I should have told everyone about me deleting my account. The posts weren't telling what happened, clearly. Leading me into a state of confusion.

Copying works??? Sending hate??? Being the anon???

I needed to know what was happening. So that, I could atleast see if I made another mistake somewhere or if it's something else.

@nistharya, about the Comte/nightgown post, it was my fault. I should have written who the idea was from. Nonetheless, it was my fault, and I deeply apologize for it. But, if I recall correctly, you wanted someone to write something on it. I wouldn't have written anything on it otherwise. But, I am sorry.

Now, I don't remember copying someone else's work. But, if we are talking about the 'letters', then I talked to @blu-tigerr, who was the first one to start them, I suppose? I voiced out how I would love to write one but people would say that I copied her. Blue - even though we didn't talk much - said that I should just go for it. And, I did. But, if you all were talking about the letters, then I didn't copy them. Maybe I used the idea, but that was with permission.

I read fanfics from Google, since it's a habit. So, when I search for any ikemen related content, it's obvious that other posts with the same tags will start showing up. I saw a post (while again reading a fanfic) that said that I was...creepy and...a stalker. But, reading things on Google and reading your works wouldn't be considered stalking, right? That was the same thing with the Comte/nightgown post. I saw it as I was searching for a crackfic or something related to that. And, that is how I found it.

Were you jealous of the other writers?

While I was always in awe at how the writers worded things. I was never jealous. I admired them, of course. But, never was I jealous, whether it be from their writing styles or followers. I was insecure of my writing at first, but many people made me believe that my writing is awesome. Plus, this isn't something to get jealous over. They spent their time writing it, and got the much worthy praise. That's that. And followers? While I appreciated how many people were supporting me, I never checked how many followers I got. Maybe once in a while. But, that doesn't mean that I didn't have any. Seeing as I was hitting 200 in just a month.

This is confusing.

It really is. It goes like

I was hurt when I fully realized what was going on. And, while some judged me based off my character (when they don't even know me), I kinda see where you are coming from. But, I don't wear personas. Is all nice, sends people nice asks, never swears...

That's my personality. I am like this in real life. But, if I was being overwhelming, then I deeply apologize for that. Maybe it was because of the fact that I had been reading you guys' works for a long time and now I was writing too...so I got excited? Still! That's no excuse and I apologize to any of you who felt overwhelmed by me...

But, please remember that I had no ill intentions. I just wanted to write and support you guys' writing. Nothing else.

Honey. I'm sorry you feel like you don't belong in the fandom. That's one thing, however, completely and totally lying about what you did to avoid guilt is not the way to go. Just because you delete something doesn't mean it's gone.

The responsible thing to do here is to admit you did wrong and show improvements with your actions. Actions are the best apology, but here you are acting like screenshots don't exist.

People have gotten over this. They aren't thinking about it anymore. Release an apology, and move on.

Yes, things will not be the same, but they're only going to get worse if you continue to deflect blame. People had the right to be mad, but that anger has passed. You have to let that anger pass too, otherwise you'll stay stuck in this miserable place forever.

You can't smooth the crumpled paper out to how it was before it was creased, but you can smooth it out and draw on it. If you continue to destroy it, you'll have nothing left.

Wow, fun, two serious posts in one day. If we ever needed a sign that internettiquette needs to be improved...

We can talk in circles all day about whether or not you were using someone else's name, or what your intentions were.

But writing is a form of art, art is protected intellectual property, and there is literal posted proof linking to stolen fics in the past. Yes you can grow from this. But nobody ever grew from denying the places they went wrong.

And even worse than that, the gall to send people messages telling them to go kill themselves and then not apologizing- and denying the entire thing?

You stole works, insulted and told someone to kill themselves, used a name nearly identical to theirs, then decided to just claim "none of it was you and you had all good intentions and didn't REMEMBER stealing" seriously? Like Lyrical said, you CAN move forward, everyone can move forward from this, people can grow and change - even if they've done things like tell someone to kill themselves, or worse.

But this? This ain't it. This reads like you're sorry you got caught, not sorry that you did it. It seems like you need to take more time to grow and work on yourself, because this sort of behavior online will NOT disappear no matter what you do, and it will get you eviscerated the next time you try to do something if you don't pause and show some real acknowledgement and own up to it.

Oh, and don't @ the og people involved in this, the very bottom-of-the-barrel LEAST you could give them is not having to deal with this stress again.
