I’ll never get over how much I love “we can’t change the world, but the world can’t change us either.” I don’t find it bromidic or unrealistically optimistic. it’s FRESH. It’s insubordinate and unfilial. Like, it’s so fiercely rebellious. And it comes at Pat and Pran at exactly the right time after they run away together, when they are Majorly at odds with their parents for the first time in their lives.

Like, we have seen their respective relationships with their parents up until this point; Pran loves his mom dearly and can barely handle being at odds with her, Pat’s entire night is ruined by one scolding from his father who has never spoken to him like that before - by any measure, they are Good Kids™. All their lives both Pat and Pran have told lies to keep their parents happy, to protect their own happiness, to keep up the facade of a hatred that was never there between them. Lies seem to be the extent of their insubordination. Until the truth of their relationship comes out and they are forced to take a stand, and their parents are forced to (poorly) reckon with it. Their parents, who punish Pat and Pran when they lie but can’t deal when they tell the truth. Their parents, who can make them hate the boy next store because of their own massive wrongdoings, who can uproot their entire lives to keep them away from each other, who can lie and instigate and bear grudges. Their parents, who love them, who support them, who are so dead wrong about this one huge thing.

“We can’t change the world” is bittersweet acceptance, a tough reality, a truth no one wants to hear. It hurts when they think of what could have been. “But the world can’t change us either” is fuck you we’re madly in love anyway. If this is the line their parents are drawing, love gives them no choice but to cross it hand in hand. If they have to maintain a lie to assuage their parents and safeguard their happiness, then they’ve learned from the best. If their parents’ hearts are immutable, then they will be similarly obstinate!! Thank you Uncle Tong

the thing about bad buddy is that calling it enemies to lovers is not entirely wrong and is a very succinct and easy way to indicate the general plot, but also one of the only moments that the two main characters are actually personally in conflict with each other lasts about four minutes and is expressed mainly through upset shirtless xylophone playing contrasted with a montage of happy moments that features a time there was triumphant shirt-wearing xylophone playing. and then they both say sorry at literally the exact same time

they really try to pull a fast one on us in ep 1 (like they do in ep 12) for all of about 30 seconds during their "this is pran. my dad told me his family has always been jealous of ours" "the guy with the fierce eyes is pat. doesn't he look like a cheater, like my mom said?" narrations (while still telling us everything we need to know about their parents role in this). pran's unreliable narrator ass saying all that as if he isn't giggling/twirling his hair after putting his watch back on by the end of the ep. as if he doesn't know exactly the kind of person pat actually is. as if he hasn't had a crush on him for years. are the enemies in the room with us now
