Her parents would probably scorn her if they saw how “undignified” her current outfit was, but they weren't even in Japan at the moment. What was in Japan, however, was an alarming amount of mutated bugs that didn't exactly seem friendly.

“Sorry Kyo,” she muttered, taking out one of her bobby pins and picking the lock, a handy skill she'd learnt just in case. Quietly, she pushed the door slightly ajar, peeking in through the doorway.

At the sight of Akina bruised and restrained, but more importantly clearly infected, Miyu let out a muffled gasp through the gas mask. “Akina..?” she called out softly, understanding why Kyo was so stubborn about the east guest house being off-limits now.

Instead, she opened the Kamikou Host Club group chat, but still her fingers hovered over the keyboard. What would she say? Help? I've locked myself in my own house? Will the bugs be able to get past the walls?

Miyu didn't like talking about her fear of bugs. It made her feel weak, insignificant, even.

But in her current situation, she kind of was weak. Vulnerable, rather. Her parents were gone, the butlers and maids were all presumably hiding in the staff residence, it was just her in the large mansion. “Ah... Yeah, that. That makes this even scarier, huh...”

He reached a hand over, offering it to her.

“But hey... Now you don't have to be alone, hm? Here, you told me something embarrassing, lemme even that up.

Um... Oh! One time, in middle school, I almost got lit on fire by tripping and knocking over a bunsen burner.”

“Yep,” she let out a small sigh, hesitating slightly before taking his hand.

“Wait, really?” she laughed, unable to hide her amusement. She was grateful for his attempts at comforting her, and he'd definitely succeeded, because she felt like a small weight had been lifted off her chest.

“Heh, yeah.

I definitely stopped rushing in science class after that.”

He chuckled, glad to see her calmer.

“Ready to get back to my place?”

She nodded, taking a deep breath to calm her nerves a little more, holding tight to the straps of her bag.

“Yeah, let's go.”

He nodded, driving off and carefully. It wasn't too far from his place, so he focused more on avoiding large groups of the bugs and places that pollen seemed to be. Not much of a detour, but one nonetheless.

“... I hope the rest of the host club is okay,” she mumbled, pursing her lips. As much as she tried to deny it, the hosts were her closest, if not only, friends, and she was worried about them.

“Same... I really hope everyone is okay...”

“They're probably just... Too busy staying safe to check their phone or something,” she nodded, trying to convince herself more than anything. It didn't help that her phone was eerily void of notifications, too.

“I really don't wanna know more people who are hurt...”

Kyo muttered under his breath, parking the car.

“We're here. Remember, the building to the east is off limits.”

Hesitantly, he added to his statement.

“I-It was always barely used, s-so who knows if it's safe...”

She raised an eyebrow at how insistent he was that she stay away from the east building, his stuttering only adding to her suspicion.

“I'll... Try to stay clear?” Miyu was clearly confused, and wanted to question him, but it wasn't the most appropriate time for interrogation, so she just nodded.

Kyo tapped his fingers on the wheel of the car.

“God, when was the last time you came over? Before high school?”

He said, trying to break the tension more.

“At least you know where the messes are, huh?”

She smiled at that, faintly recalling visiting his house a while back for some event. “Middle school, I think?” Miyu laughed, remembering how she'd avoided initiating conversations and tried to hide in the corner.

She made a mental note of how he always tried relieving the tension. A handy skill, for both lightening the mood and deflecting.

“Right. For that weird party father threw because he's too old fashioned to trust me to pick a good partner and wanted me to start meeting people. I think I distinctly remember pestering you almost every 5 minutes because I hated the party.”

He laughed a little.

“God, I was so annoying at those events, huh?”

“Yeah, and I kept desperately trying to evade you because you terrified me and I just wanted some peace and quiet,” Miyu snickered.

“I wouldn't exactly call it annoying, though. It was kind of fun, honestly. I guess thinking back, it really isn't that surprising that you became a host.”

“Really? I was surprised I joined. I may be social, but god I hated interacting with people.”

He snorted.

“Alas. We should probably take this conversation inside, hm? Away from where any windows are so you don't have to see pests.”

She nodded, her attention starting to shift back to the bugs outside. Grip tightening on her bag strap as she bit down on the inside of her cheek, Miyu put the gas mask back on and unbuckled the seatbelt to get out of the car.

Kyo moved quickly, locking the doors once they were both out and once more wrapping an arm around her as they moved inside. Though, this time, it was to help block the sight of the world, block sight of the bugs.

Inside, he got some of the shades down.

“There. You can take the mask off now, and shed some layers.”

Kyo offered, taking his own gear off.

She let out a small sigh of relief now that the bugs were out of sight, putting the gas mask away and getting her gloves off.

“Are your parents home?” she couldn't help but ask. Miyu knew about Kyo's complicated relationship with his parents, especially his dad, and she didn't particularly like them either, but asking felt like the polite thing to do.

“Just Father. But he's locked himself up in the cellar. Only really comes upstairs for his extra supplies.”

Kyo said, stretching.

“Mom was outside Japan with her brother, meaning hopefully they're safe.”

“Yikes,” Her nose wrinkled at the mention of his dad being the only one home. Well, out of sight, out of mind. “I mean, I don't think the bugs have spread outside of Japan... Yet.”

“Then what have you been doing since all this started? Aside from using your dad's stuff and breaking down doors,” she added the last part jokingly, a hint of amusement in her eyes.

“Hey!!”

He playfully nudged her.

“Taking care of people is always my top priority. Of course that includes—”

A small grunt as he felt arms hug him.

"Onii-chan!!"

“My little sister. You remember her, right? I think you met her first year of middle school.”

The elementary school girl blinked, hiding behind Kyo.

Miyu's eyes lit up slightly as she noticed his little sister. She always had a soft spot for kids. She crouched down to his sister's level, pulling out a candy from her pocket and offering it to the girl.

“Yeah, I remember,” she smiled, her free hand patting the other girl's head.

Renge took a moment, before her eyes lit up and she took the candy.

"Miyu-onee-chan!"

Kyo chuckled, rubbing her back.

“I'm glad you remembered. I was going to have to air jail you if you couldn't, Renge.”

"What?! Miyu-onee-chan, don't let him air jail me!”

The girl playfully clung to Miyu, laughing. Almost as if she didn't know about the world outside.

Miyu grinned as Renge ran to her, making a show of “protecting” her from Kyo.

“Don't worry Renge, if he air jails you, I'll air jail him back for you.”

“H-Hey!! No?! No airjailing me!!”

He sputtered.

“Renge, you won't let her air jail me right?”

Renge just kept laughing.

“Air jail onii-chan!!”

“Wooooooow.”

He laughed.

“Majority wins,” Miyu sang teasingly, a playful glint in her eyes. “To air jail with you, Kyo!”

He took like two steps back.

“Besides, I didn't air jail her so you don't get to air jail me!”

He reasoned. Just watching his sister be so happy was fine though.

Renge squealed with laughter for a while, before going quite and gently pulling on Miyu's sleeve.

“Miyu-onee-chan..? When do you think Momma is gonna come home... I miss her...

Onii-chan said soon, but...”

“After all the doors you've broken, I think we do get to air jail you,” she retorted, before turning to Renge, pursing her lips as she contemplated her next words very carefully.

“... I'm sure Mrs Suoh will be back soon Renge,” she smiled gently. “And I know she most likely misses you just as much! But your mom is very busy, so you'll have to wait a bit more... Why don't I take a picture of you now to tell her you miss her?” Miyu offered.

“Okay!! I wanna go get super pretty first!! Be right back!”

Renge ran back off.

Kyo's face dropped quickly.

“She doesn't know what's going on outside. Father activated the security the second I got home the day it started. She was napping.”

He explained. His voice caught in his throat.

Miyu sighed in relief, watching Renge run off to what was probably her room. She tried to comfort Kyo by rubbing his shoulder, but it was rather awkward.

“You can't keep it from her forever, y'know,” she frowned. “She's almost twelve, not two.”

“I don't want her scared for me when I go out, or asking why Father won't let us in the cellar with him, or why Mom left before it... Or about Akina, I can't—”

He trembled, voice as shaky as his body.

The host hiccuped, wiping tears away.

She stiffened when he started to cry, unsure of what to do as her mind erupted into a chaotic debate internally. Miyu was never good at comforting people, especially when they weren't children.

Still, after a solid few seconds of stunned silence, some impulsive part of her just hugged him and let him cry all he needed, rubbing his back.

Though, the mention of Akina made her curious. “Wait. What about Akina?” she questioned. At first she'd dismissed his nervousness about approaching the east building, figuring she should respect his boundaries, but now that his fiancée was in the picture, well... She had a bad feeling.

Never had Kiyoshi's head hurt this much, but he stared out his window of one of the highest floors of the apartment complex, looking through eyes of fear and bewilderment of what Shibuya has become.

"Um... Is an apocalypse movie being shot? The hell..."

He checks his phone but is immediately shut out with a "no signal" message.

"Damn... they even shut off the internet for dramatic effect... Well, I have a free day so I guess I'll just catch up on more rest."

He shuffles back towards his bed, unphased by the sight he'd just witnessed, but a part of him wondered if this was actually real and happening. Maybe... maybe he'd try initiating contact with others to question them on what's happening. Well, after he gets his rest, obviously.

Eventually bored of staring up at the ceiling for 15 minutes straight, Kiyoshi opens his phone once again and checks his messages. Ah, he just forgot to pay the internet bill. Dammit, how has forgotten to pay his internet bill in the entire time he was rotting in his house?? Quickly paying the bill, he opened up the Host Club's group chat. With a bored expression, he started typing.

Hey guys, was catching up on rest. Do you guys know when they'll stop filming the apocalypse movie outside?

They made it pretty realistic, almost thought it was real lol

Miyu breathed out a sigh of relief as her phone buzzed with new notifications, though her relief was short-lived when she opened the host club group chat to read the messages sent.

Kiyoshi was cooking some instant noodles for himself when he observed his phone light up with notifications. placing the cup noodle packets down, he opened his phone. Reading the new messages, he felt... confused. This apocalypse nonsense was real?

Where are you? Are you safe? I'd be really pissed if I found out my friends are turning into zombies this very moment.

He set the phone back on the kitchen counter, busy preparing his instant noodles as he thinks of them significantly more important than apocalypses.
