A red carnation, alstroemeria, and sunflower were tied together by a gold ribbon and waited for Hinata back at his dorm. These flowers were not only gifted as a thank you, but also as a way for Freya to show her appreciation of their friendship. Whenever she was in need of a smile or a quick pick me up, he was never far behind.
“Thank you for the flowers, Hinata! I’m counting on your protection, don’t let me down. ♡”
Taped to the note was a silver, bone-shaped dog tag. It read:
“Hinata Hidekatsu. If found please return to the Student Council President, Freya.”
Hinata’s expression lit up when he noticed the flowers waiting at their dorm, and ran over to check who they were addressed to. Having taken such an immediate liking to the student council president since the pool party, he’d sent a few flowers of his own and a lighthearted note, but he was caught off guard by her return gift. He couldn’t stop himself from grinning.
❛ Ahaha, I’ll have to start wearin’ this every day. ♪ ❜ he hummed and carefully took off the attached dog tag. ❛ A necklace? Yeah, that’ll work!! ❜
Hinata had been an unlikely friend of Claire’s. While she was very aware of his friendship with Dylas, she wasn’t about to put it against him. It was Hinata’s choice to associate with people like him. Regardless, Claire sent a small cup with some alstroemeria in it to Hinata with a note that read, “Hinata, thank you for being a friend. Enjoy the flowers. -Claire.”
❛ Oh, sweet! I’ll have to put these somewhere nice...❜ he gave a delighted hum, twirling a selected flower from the cup between his thumb and index finger, and curiously examined the petals. What pretty colours– a blossoming pink to compliment a pure, sunny yellow unlike anything he’d...
Hinata’s gaze finally rested upon the name at the end of the note.
❛ WAIT, WHAT? CLAIRE?! ❜ the flower he’d been holding was dropped to the ground, using both hands to bring the note only inches away from his face. ❛ I’m not seein’ things, right? She called me her–... her FRIEND !! ❜ elation sparked through his body, jumping a little in place and doing a quick twirl– now this would have to be posted on the fridge for everyone to see!
( Well, on second thought, if Dylas saw that note... uh, maybe he’d just stick it on the vanity mirror in his room... yeah, that’d be fine! )
A solitary blue rose is delivered to Hinata’s dorm, a note attached by a thin white ribbon. Luke had someone else write it, since his handwriting was pretty terrible and easily recognizable. The note read: “I can’t get you out of my mind. Wish things were different, but that’s how life is. Glad I have the memories I do with you, but I wish we could make more. At least we’re friends.”
The arrival of a second blue rose had caught Hinata into a momentary silence, only this time he’d been left without an idea or clue to lead to the identity of the sender. Resting too heavy of a burden on his heart, he’d gotten the rose out of his sight as soon as possible: quickly shoved away and buried beneath the rest of the flowers he’d received.
Hinata wouldn’t linger on thoughts of a rose; he was already happy with Laney.
⌜ *゚:*:✼✿ – If not for the rules saying she can only have 5 of each flower, Laney would have gotten Hinata a lot more than the ones she prepared for his gift. Tied together with a blue and red ribbon are a red, white, yellow and lavender rose and an out of place purple lilac. And for that extra treat, she boxes together half a dozen heart-shaped cookies and half a dozen shiba-inu cookies with a cute little flower on its butt. She made sure his batch came out perfectly!⌟

i can’t ever say this enough: but meeting you is an adventure i would gladly take over and over again ❤
you are a great friend to me, hinata. when we first met i knew straight-away we’d get along and you woke up a fun-side of me i don’t get much of a chance to show! i’m lucky enough to have you as a dear friend AND a boyfriend, and i hope you know i have never been happier ❤
to more dances, sneaky operations and adventures in the future!
with all my love,
- Laney ⌟
His heart skipped a beat when he discovered the bouquet.
If it were possible to savour words, he’d done it with this note, reading over the contents again and again and each time feeling an increasing warmth colour his features.
Hinata could’ve predicted who’d sent them from first glance, given away by the vibrance of the romantic flowers, and the sweet treats that had arrived with the bouquet. One of the shiba inu cookies were picked up, and he snapped off half for an experimental test taste. Of course they were delicious! Nothing short from the quality expected of the cooking club’s president.
The flowers from Laney would be the only ones he would adorn in a vase that day, placed atop the desk in his dorm for him to admire as long as possible, and to make his mornings a little easier to greet each day. Hopefully Laney would appreciate the flowers and gift he’d prepared to return her affections...

Thank you all for another successful Flower Festival! Let’s look forward to next year’s!
A single blue rose rests on Hinata’s pillow, with a thin blue ribbon attaching it to a note card with a hole punched out of it. The note is simple: “My greatest wish has always been your happiness. I only wish that I had been able to bring that happiness to you.” It isn’t signed, and Hinata’s roommate is nowhere to be found.
Blue Rose: “I can’t have you, but I can’t keep you off my mind.”
It wasn’t signed. Hinata didn’t need the signature to know who he’d received this flower from.
He knew he deserved this; in the back of his mind, Hinata had long since predicted the arrival of a blue rose. To bring a boy as innocent as Vishnal to his bed implied something more than friends. Whispered words of phrases and affection weren’t meant to be tossed around so casually, but in the heat of the moment, and in watching Vishnal adorn his creation so well...
❛ Geez, Vish . . . ❜ he mumbled, picking up the rose and twirling it between his thumb and index fingers. ( Was it possible to mend a broken heart if you’d been the one to break it? He’ll have to have a word with Vishnal about this. )
Marlin liked having a flair for the dramatic. He appreciated it when others went along with it - it made life that much more interesting. Perhaps that was why conferences with students such as Hidekatsu were so enjoyable: they always played right into his hand.
When Hinata entered, however, a glance up showed him a perfectly calm face. “You didn’t knock,” he scolded, then looked right back down toward the assignment, continuing to make absently grammar corrections here and there. “Didn’t your parents teach you to knock when you were growing up? Do you not have doors in your family home?”
Unnecessary to say. All perfectly amusing to indulge in anyway.
“Shut the door.” He turned the page of the assignment and began the next page. “You might as well sit.”
Hinata visibly flinched as Marlin’s harsh tone shocked him into a momentary silence. ❛ My mom was pretty strict on teachin’ us manners, ❜ he began to explain, offering an answer to an otherwise clearly rhetorical question. ❛ But when you’re raised as the middle child in a family of six, things get really hectic, so I just assumed... ❜
He hung his head and gave a heavy sigh, letting the door shut behind him. ( No point in trying to run away anymore, right? )
❛ Uh. Sorry, I’ll just... ❜ Hinata awkwardly made his way to seat himself on the chair across from Marlin, hands clasped over one another in his lap, and gaze cast to the floor. He didn’t need to inquire into the reason behind this meeting; he knew perfectly well what to be expecting.

The dawn had arrived, and with her entrance, Hinata had been greeted to the beginning of a Saturday morning with a stack of envelopes and a single package. The pile hadn’t accumulated, but instead appeared overnight, each addressed to Hinata Hidekatsu, and individually sealed with bright stickers of different characters. The handwriting was distinguished, one more elegant than the last and another scribbled entirely in crayon.
( He could recognize each of his family members by handwriting alone. )
Correspondence between himself and the rest of the Hidekatsus was commonplace, though typically done through one sibling to save money. This was suspicious. The tiny blue box spotted with white polka dots wasn’t doing them any favours, and the bow tied so perfectly, the package very clearly addressed to . . . Laney.
He chanced to carefully open one of the letters and skim over the contents. The first one was from his mother, openly thanking Laney for ‘ looking past her son’s innate flaws ’ and giving her her blessing for a happy relationship. Something between a mix of curiosity and embarrassment forced Hinata’s hand to open each letter, and for each one, he felt his face darken another hue of pink.
‘ Laney! This is Hinata’s oldest brother, Izumo! I’m sorry we could not send these letters to you personally, but through all of Hinata’s letters gushing about you and detailing how head over heels he is, he never spared your last name. ’ . . .
. . . ‘ This is the other older brother, Yakumo. Please, do not go easy on Hinata: he gets carried away easily, does things impulsively, but his heart is in a good place. Do not hesitate to scold him when he crosses a line. If it gets too much, you can contact me at . . . ’ ( had Yakumo just given Hinata’s girlfriend his phone number ?!! )
Each letter continued to detail embarrassing moments or traits of Hinata’s that Laney was supposed to ‘ prepare herself for. ’ They expressed their sincerest gratitude in joining the family, and showed excitement in her passion for cooking, hoping that one day they would get to taste her cooking. All followed the same design, but it was the final letter he opened that made him finally smile. Scribbled in crayon and covered in glittery animal stickers, his little sister whom he’d adored and raised had decided to write Laney a letter, too.
‘ Hi! I’m Chizuru. You’re very pretty. I drew this picture of you and my brother. Do you like the stuffed animal we gave you? Mama made it herself. ’
While the briefest of the letters, he’d laughed a little, and wondered how much Chizuru must’ve grown up since he’d left for Harvest Academy. As embarrassing and corny as these letters were . . . he hoped Laney would appreciate his family’s effort to make her feel welcomed.
"No popcorn," Karen murmured, scandalized, as she made her way onto the green with a scowl. It wasn't any matter. She'd bought a massive bag of popcorn off-campus - one the size of a body pillow - and carried it in her loving embrace as she elbowed past a number of students. The movies wouldn't s...

Pokémon Go’s popularity was fleeting; the summer’s heat came and went with it the year before, and it had become something of a rarity to find fellow trainers. As a surprise to absolutely nobody, among those still clinging onto the game was Hinata. Even as his friends faded away from the app, he still frequented pokéstops, battled for gyms, and used his guise as skullgrunt8 to keep himself anonymous. And then, on a faithful evening, it happened.
2 AM. Still stuck in an exhausted delirium, he’d lazily reached out to check his phone and realized someone had placed a lure down at the campus’ pokéstop. It was like adrenaline had been pumped into him from the excitement; there was no chance that he’d miss out on a lure!
He hadn’t the time to slip into proper clothes, and had showed up climbing the school fence in his pajamas and a worn backpack. ( Anyone who knew anything about the local pokéstops knew it was most efficient to sit just outside the school fence, where you could strategically be in range of two pokéstops at once. )
❛ PSST! Hey, over here—! Are you here for the lure, too? ❜ he called to the silhouette he saw already on the other side of the fence. Hinata climbed over, and hopped down, meeting face to face with his newest acquaintance. ❛ Or... are you sneaking off campus and I sound like an idiot? I dunno. Listen, either way, I'm just here to play pokémon. ❜ he gave a sheepish grin and shrugged off his backpack, raising it in the air. ❛ Uh... I brought snacks? Heh... ❜
