Finished commission painting!  This is a remake of an older painting, which I have linked below.

There is a short story behind this painting: back in college, I had an art professor who had a variety of odds and ends in her office.  I found this old box of chalk while we were searching for specific art supplies, and she said it had survived a house fire.  The box itself was falling apart, and full of crumbled bits of chalk.  I was rather enamored with it, and since she had no further attachment to it, she gave it to me.  Because of this, I call the painting “Remnants from the Fire.”

Just finished this piece in time with the falling leaves!

I’ve been learning the value of adding a background to a painting, and as such I’m learning how to paint backdrops.

“The Woman 2.0″

I revisited this painting and gave her a background, reworked the skin tone, and her arms.  I feel she is finally finished!

Won Best in Show!

Hello all,

Last Tuesday I won “Best in Show” at the Teatro Zinzanni Holiday Art Gala!  I received two tickets to a show by TZ, and I am so very excited.   

The event hosted 40 other local artists who all had beautiful and fascinating work, and it was a magical night!

She was such a pleasure to paint!  I've been working on painting and sculpting without references, and I am very proud of how this turned out.  I went for a more watery/ impressionist painting.

I was inspired to draw this after visiting the Nara National Museum in Japan.  They had an incredible buddha exhibit on show!

"Ode to Fig" 

A watercolor painting I did awhile ago and never posted.  I used a white gel pen for the highlights.  I had bought one of those big fruit packs from Costco, and decided the figs were too beautiful not to paint!

"Jelly Witch"

I originally drew this with a white background, but decided to color it black and add a glowing effect.  The second picture is taken with sunlight shining through, which gave it a fun texture.  I'm really happy with how this turned out!

Fashion sketch

The fabric for this mimics water: the teardrop beads would be tied to fine string and grouped together, so that as the fabric moved, they would "splash up" like water.
