When Kakashi first asks about Team 7's goals and dreams, Naruto declares that he wants to be Hokage, Sakura implies she wants to become Sasuke's romantic interest/spouse, and Sasuke wants to "kill a certain main".
By the time we reach the epilogue, all of them have technically achieved their goals. However, the actual reality surrounging these achievements is pretty sobering.
Sasuke learned that Itachi never deserved his hatred and had to re-direct his quest for revenge, which ultimately left him adrift and wandering aimlessly, without a real purpose. Sakura has a baby daddy, but not a husband/partner because Sasuke is virtually never there and the only thing they have in common is their daughter. And Naruto is not necessarily enjoying his stint as Hokage, because most of it is much less flashy and exciting from what he envisioned as a child.
Instead, I propose, that the narrative would be much improved if we switched things around a little:
Sasuke becomes Hokage because, frankly, he seems more suited for the paperwork side of things and an Uchiha deserves to finally hold the title after all those betrayals.
Naruto in turn marries Sasuke. I don't think I need to elaborate here, but it's the only thing that makes sense.
But then that leaves Sakura to do something about Itachi at some point. And perhaps we might imagine a scenario where she kills him. But wouldn't it be much more interesting if Sakura managed to heal Itachi from whatever illness he had? Wouldn't that be so amazing to show her growth as a medic nin, healing a disease that was thought to be incurable, while simultaneously giving Itachi another shot at life? And, if Itachi lives, that would additionally boost Sasuke's redemption, hence making the Hokage Sasuke scenario even more viable.
I don't exactly know where I am going with this, but I think it would be an interesting canon divergence.
