she looks at him with a distinctly dubious grimace. she’d thought it was an ironic answer, a clear deflection from his seemingly innocuous question. no, the youngest mathews child wasn’t too keen on talking about herself. she never had been. her heart would beat just a little faster and she’d be on pins and needles until the attention averted anywhere but on her. seeing as though deflecting wasn’t going to work, she finishes off the rest of her drink, wishing she’d gotten herself something stronger before hand.
it’s an open-ended question, how hard could it be? she clears her throat. “ well, i’ve always lived in tulsa. i’m from the east side, so your neighborhood is a little extravagant for me. i go to will rogers high school. i work at the dingo as a waitress part time.. um, maybe you’ve heard of my brother, two-bit. he hangs around with the curtis clan. ” she tells him matter-of-factly, hoping she’d been able to satisfy his curiosity.
