The colour scheme in this one is based off of a non canon Space Marine chapter called the Steel Legion. The fleurs de lis on their coats of arms represents their allegiance to House Maher as soveriegn lords of the kingdom of Aquitaine, which is theflowerofchivalry’s fantasy world’s rough equivalent of medieval and ancient regime France.

A long-term internet chum, the-happy-nihilist got one of the earliest coats of arms I designed. A lot of motifs that would be sued in future works weren’t in place yet, but ended up being foreshadowed.

I would eventually come to use prominent star motifs to represent ambition, wings to symbolize medical acumen, and more elaborate borders to represent a high degree of respectability and dignity. As she is a member of the American medical community (and may one day be a doctor), aspires too wealth and professional recognition, and is one of the only people I know in my age group who owns an finances her own home singlehandedly, she has all these in spades! The two fighting/playing/dancing foxes reference a kitsune roleplaying character she played early on in our shared history, as well as her playfully combative nature. The foxes also serve to exemplify the traits in her motto: “astus” meaning “cunning”, “fortitudine” meaning “strength”, and “gratia” meaning “grace”.

The colour scheme here is based off of the pre-Heresy Emperor’s Children Space Marine legion. The fleurs de lis on their coats of arms represents their allegiance to House Maher as soveriegn lords of the kingdom of Aquitaine, which is theflowerofchivalry’s fantasy world’s rough equivalent of medieval and ancient regime France.

In addition to being an old friend of mine, pixlsugr is an excellent artist and a fairly renowned player in the Texas Smash Bros. community. The art credentials are evidenced by her blog, but her Smash Bros. acumen is alluded to by the crossed umbrellas behind the arms I designed for her; she mains Princess Peach. She and the characters she has designed and roleplayed over the years have been closely associated with the moon, and thus it was included; the cherry blossom motif was a request by her, but aptly reflects her love of things pink and pretty and of Japanese media (especially anime and video games). Her motto ties thsi all together in one banner-splayed quotation: “Morte a Pulchellus Luna”, “Death is a pretty moon.”

thealmightyconquerer

One of the first coats of arms I did, I later retooled it a little to reflect improvements in my style. It belongs a good, long-time friend of mine thealmightyconquerer, who only really tumbls these days to vote on my Fakemon blog and like sweet mech pictures. This particular coat of arms owes a lot to that love of mecha; it was based initially off of the King of Hearts in the Shuffle Alliance of Mobile Fighter G Gundam (pictured here); I substituted the king himself for a jet-plane, and the number 13 for 56, both alluding to the username under which I met him online and which he is most closely and lastingly associated with. The flowery motifs across the heart-shaped shield became blood-red sharks, a favourite animal and representative of his passions. The hue and the crossed blades both also allude to his love of violent characters and combat in roleplaying games. The banner bears a fairly straight-forward motto, as appropriate to his Tumblr username: “Egredere, et vincere” or “Go forth, and conquer”.

This is the most up-to-date approach taken to my girlfriend’s arms. Her blog is at http://autfutue-autpugnemus.tumblr.com, and I designed her arms to reflect a number of aspects of her personality.

Something of her own features and wry expression went into the Gorgon’s head, a symbol some believe was used to designate and defend women’s shelters in ancient Greece. The winged head was chosen to represent her free spirit and her experience as a pilot, as well as her desire to heal others mentally and physically. The tie-dye pattern around this is made of some of her favourite colours, and alludes to her hippie sensibilities; the ball-studded ring around the edge is taken from several Sephardic Jewish signet rings and seals I found online, as she is proud of that aspect of her heritage. Her love of mycology, herbalism, and the wilderness are reflected in the berries and mushrooms around the other ring.

The Greek writing is meant to read “Wherever you go, there you are”, but either the nuances are lost in translation or Google butchered it, as I’ve been told that it reads like nonsense.

This is my coat of arms. The two cats are my cats Muriel (black) and Yuri (grey). The colours of blue and red are my favourites. The Tudor symbol in the top left is a personal symbol of mine. As an Anglophile and a history major the Tudor dynasty is my favourite. The symbol on the top right is the antifascist circle. The three arrows stand for the three enemies of social democracy. I felt this was appropriate as I am a social democrat. The Star of David at the bottom left is the same star used as the logo for the Masorti (Conservative) Jewish movement in North America. The only difference is the colours are changed. This particular star is on the coats of arms because I am a Masorti (Conservative) Jew. The elephant in the bottom right is there because this is a family symbol. From right to left the words on the sash are the Hebrew words for Torah, worship, and acts of kindness. These three things are mentioned in the Torah service as the three things the world stands on. At the bottom is my Hebrew name Matan Israel son of Abraham and Sarah.

absativelybadical

Opening up this new blog with my own arms! My main blog is absativelybadical, and I’ve been designing these (not at all traditional for the most part) coats of arms for my friends, family, and the occasional acquaintance acquaintance for a while! It all started with this beaut, though! The central deer-head, also tailored to resemble a heart, was a logo created for a marketing class, based upon a visual pun related to my last name and the literal meaning of my first and last names: “wealthy stag”. The two cats represent differing opinions and reactions, as well as sides of human nature; this is also reflected in the motto “Tene Medium Terram” or “hold the middle ground”. The blue diamond eyes allude to the Minecraft server where I first flew the arms.

Black and red are my favourite colours, so the background was a natural pick.
