Yes yes yes
Im set to graduate in 2023 with my BA in international relations. My first year at my college has been extremely rocky and I ended up getting in academic probation this past spring semester I got myself off of academic probation and got into the major I wanted.
Now it’s the beginning of fall semester and I want to desperately raise my GPA and even graduate summa cum laude. Spite is my main motivation and I just want to makes myself look good and better when I apply for masters programs. Any advice?
Well, first give yourself some grace. You attended your first year of college during a pandemic. Now that you're off of academic probation and looking to raise your GPA, I would do a few things.
The first is sit down, look at your program and get a firm understanding of what classes you need to take and in which order you need to take said classes, for the remainder of your program. Include all of the major electives and core classes. This will help you 1. Make sure you are staying on track for graduation. 2. Look and see holes in your class schedule where you can possibly add another major or a minor. 3. Stay prepared for class registration. Three weeks before graduation, you should begin looking up the actual sections and professors. Take a look on Rate My Professor and see their ratings. Register for professors who seem like they grade fairly and have good rapport with their students, even if they teach challenging classes.
The second (and of life lesson importance) is to reach out and build really close relationships with each professor. This is the difference between a B and an A-. It might not seem like a huge GPA boost but that difference can land you on honors lists. Prior to each class starting, shoot the professor an email saying that you just wanted to introduce yourself and that you're looking forward to XYZ class.
While in the class, engage with the professor. If you have discussion posts assigned, go above and beyond in your replies. Actually read the books and articles assigned. DO NOT BULLSHIT! The goal here is to establish yourself as an excellent student. You want your name to be synonymous with diligence, hard work, and a quest for knowledge.
Honestly, I'm also driven by spite, so I just always think of the nay-sayers and the people who said I couldn't/can't/won't and that just makes me work harder.
Get disciplined. Set a bedtime and wake up at a reasonable time. My life would have been so different if I went to sleep at 11 and woke up at 7. It would have felt like there were, in fact, enough hours in the day.

Depressive Logical Mistakes
–All or Nothing Deciding that falling slightly short of your goals makes you a total failure
–Overgeneralization “Because it worked out badly one time, it will work out badly every time.”
–Mental Filter Allowing a single small negative detail to block out all the good details
–Disqualifying the Positive Saying that positive experiences or evidence “don’t count” for some reason
–Mind-Reading Assuming other people think negatively of you without evidence
–Fortune-Telling Making a negative prediction and then taking it as an established fact, before the fact
–Catastrophizing Exaggerating the importance of a minor mistake
–Minimizing Disregarding the importance of your qualities or accomplishments
–Emotional justification “I feel hopeless, therefore things are hopeless”
–Should, Must, and Ought Disregarding the way things are in favor of how things “should be”
–Mislabeling “I failed once, so I’m a total Failure.” Or, “He was mean to me once. He’s a fucking Asshole.”
–Personalization Taking [responsibility] for things you don’t actually have control over
When you catch yourself thinking this way, take a step back and ask yourself: “Is this really true, or am I stuck in a loop?”
Simple stories are inherently false. Life is complicated, and perspective matters.
When life seems overwhelming, remember the Buddhist saying: “The correct way to eat an elephant is one bite at a time.”
And remember:
You can handle this.
