Emily The Strange Backpack
Nostalgia got the better of me and I themed this around Emily The Strange. She was a huge influence on my style growing up, plus we share the same name! My inner punk goth is satisfied.
Maleficent Crossbody Bag
Needed a new crossbody bag so I decided to take a simple black one and turn it into this. The wings, tail, and horns were all handmade with a custom paintjob to match. Turns out, I really like using fabric paint.
Beast of Legend
My Art Foundations class is learning how to sculpt. The focus is on art and science as students learn to design a creature that lives in a specific habitat, how they eat, hunt, and navigate their environment.
Buddy Boy Portrait
Like many of us, I have some family members across the rainbow bridge. I am honored to help comfort someone who had to part with their furbaby, and just like me, has to wait a rude amount of time before we can meet again.
Mountain-scape Watercolor Palette
And to top off the year, another custom watercolor palette. I'm really enjoying the greyscale with 1 emphasis color. I would like to explore that in more work.
The latest in sketchbook designs. I wanted to experiment with more 3D elements and overall silhouette of the cover pages.
It's been rewarding to return to my bookbinding. The same can be said for monochromatic line-art illustration. It's a cozy and familiar feeling, which is appropriate for the month of December.
Planning out a project before starting it is a vital skill that students need to practice. This is a collection of project plans for my advanced art classes so students can see the learning goals and how to execute them while allowing creative liberties.
“Don’t teach something you haven’t learned yourself.” I can’t expect my students to improve their observational drawing skills unless I teach them how and show them clear examples of what it looks like. NGL, this was a fun exercise for me.
Tumia's Life Map
Several years ago I did a practice of this project and now I teach it to my students. This is a new updated version of this project for me to show my students so they can picture what they'll be making about themselves.
Little Shop of Horrors Mural
Hold your hat and hang onto your soul Something's coming to eat the world whole If we fight it, we've still got a chance
But whatever they offer you
DON'T FEED THE PLANTS
Apothecary Cabinet
No self respecting apothecary would be low on stash of both remedies and toxins. Whether you need honey for a sore throat or have a name you want to "cross off" of your blacklist, support your local green witch with your "business".
Greenhouse
I saw this little house display and immediately had the idea for a greenhouse. Gardening fits the summer vibe right now and this helped me do some stash busting.
I have been testing out some monochromatic cityscapes for a future idea, and I liked how this one came out. Inspired by Ambrose Bierce’s “An Inhabitant of Carcosa”
Ysma (Jim Shore Design)
"Ha! You really should have thought of that before you became peasants! Take him away! Next!"
Maleficent's Curse
Back in 2015, I attempted to draw the Disney Castle for a chalk festival. Unfortunately, it rained the entire time and I couldn't finish. This year, I revisited the concept, did it with help and with a style that fits me better.
