will spending the entire offseason training with his actual friends, traveling, having fun, living his life and barely seeming to think about mack has always been one of the biggest pieces of evidence to me that their friendship feels a lot more like two people clinging to each other because they were alone in the same place and needed someone. when they're back home, surrounded by the people they've known for years, they don't really seem to seek each other out in the same way. the intensity of their friendship has always felt heavily tied to circumstance rather than something that exists independently of it.
