small headcanon dump below!

lydia’s mother died in a freak accident when she was very young, so she doesn’t remember her. because of this, she doesn’t actually miss her mom - something lydia feels a considerable amount of guilt over. but then again, how can she miss someone she doesn’t remember?

she’s aware of how her mother’s death affected her father. ever since her mom died, charles has been a nervous wreck who frets over lydia near-constantly, wanting to ensure she remains safe. sometimes lydia gets so wrapped up in her own problems that she forgets why charles is so protective of her in the first place.

that being said, lydia often worries over her father’s health. the main reason she was willing to accept delia into her life, however reluctantly, was because she recognized that delia kept charles grounded. deep down lydia knows the two really do love each other, even though delia gets on her nerves.

charles and delia have been together for quite some time, but only married recently by the time the movie took place. hence delia struggling to fit into the role of a mother figure and lydia showing such excessive discomfort around her.

            “ this is such a lovely home. ”       morticia muses,     heels noiseless as she moves about the teenager’s room.       “  so much darkness. ”        not so much in the    colours    ──     purple surrounding her like beautiful satin in a coffin she once witnessed.     but more so,    it was the   aura.    items littering the space,    black accents  &    an overall dreary mood.      “ thank you for inviting me in.     i do hate to impose upon you    &    your family. ”   a family she has    YET    to see,     though suspected she had one nonetheless.

   “If you like the house now, you should’ve seen it before it got remodelled.” Lydia speaks with a bland sort of amusement, leaning against the doorframe and folding her arms over her chest. She doesn’t take her eyes off the woman; while she seems nice enough, she’s still pretty weird, even by Lydia’s standards. If it weren’t for the Maitlands’ presence in the house, she doubts she would’ve let her in at all. “You’re not imposing on anyone. My parents are in Hawaii and I pretty much have this place to myself for the next couple weeks.”

   ( A white lie, but a necessary one, as far as she’s concerned. )

   “What did you say you needed again?” she asks, a touch of skepticism creeping into her voice. “Because no offence, but I don’t think you’re gonna find it in my room.”

it was undoubtedly a nice place to cool off  :  and the fact that the place overlooked a small lake made it all the more of a sight to behold. so there she stood. bare feet in the cold water  &  crouched, searching amongst the rocks before her. and soon, after a few short seconds, she stood. spine straight. a slim, smooth stone between her thumb  &  index finger  -  making her way back to lydia’s position.     ❛     try this one.     ❜

   Lydia’s favourite wide-brimmed hat was perched atop her head, shielding her eyes from the vibrant sun. The young girl sat on the edge of the deck, the tips of her toes skimming over the surface of the water as she observed her companion. For once, her Nikon camera wasn’t in her hands or hanging around her neck, but placed on a tree stump some distance away. Lydia watched as Mindy approached, a small smile forming on her lips as she accepted what was offered to her.

   “You really think this is gonna be any different from the last five I dropped in the lake?” Her inquiry was one of jest, fingertips skimming over the chilled surface of the rock. “I can barely serve a volleyball in gym class, for God's sake.”
