2012 Splinter’s actions make much more sense if you consider that he probably knew he was on borrowed time.

Like, this wasn’t just a “One day I will leave this world when I’m old and wrinkly and my sons will have to bury me” kinda way.

More like, “a man who hates my mere existence is searching to the ends of the earth to find me to kill me, and he will find me eventually. So my sons need to be prepared for my death soon rather than later” kinda way.

And he turned out to be right.

i know season 5 of TMNT 2012 wasn’t well received, but it’s still fun and special to me

that being said, i wish that the season had focused on how each character dealt with grief. specifically the grief of losing their father for the final time. i think it would have been a really interesting thing to explore and i’m kinda sad they didn’t
