Rafiki!

Applicable themes: animals, Africa, older and wiser, the lion king, Disney, animation, cartoons

Time: 30min

Cost: $$ (body paint!)

Supplies: 

Body paint (black, white, blue, red)

White feather boa

Stick

How to:

Body paint first: dark grey for body and top of face, white for torso, blue for eyes, sky blue for cheeks and red for nose

Tie the feather boa so it goes from the top of your head to your chin. For ease, hold it in place with bobby pins or a headband.

Hold a stick

Chant “Asante Sana, squash banana” and voila!

 Potential pick up lines that will definitely work: 

“Can you feel the love tonight?”

“I’ll climb your pride rock”

Carry around a bag of flour and ask if anyone wants to be “Simba’d”. It will definitely work.

How to:

Paint lines in triangles over white clothing and fill in with colours

Repeat for body

Look slightly pained whilst singing all night

Time: hefty!

Supplies: 

Cardboard

Red material

A sturdy pair of scissors

White felt

Letters

Headband

Hot glue gun

How to:

Cut out a long rectangular piece of cardboard (eg. 2 metres X body width)

Cover all this cardboard with red material

Fold cardboard in half and at the middle, create a head hole

Hot glue gun material on either side of the cardboard, leaving room for your arms!

Cut out white felt to make the Australia Post letters

Optional extra: glue letters onto a headband

Mr Squiggle!

Applicable themes:  texta party, make your mark, 90s cartoons, puppets

Time: 40min

Supplies: 

Blue hair (I used two blue pompoms upside down)

Three toilet rolls

Green, yellow, red and black textas (other option is to use paper of that colour)

Headback

String

Yellow smock/dress

Red bow

How to: (note – depending on supplies this may be fiddly)

Toilet paper roll #1: colour green with black stripes

Superglue this to a headband to use as the pencil hat

Toilet paper roll #2: colour red

Toilet paper roll #3: spin the paper so it resembles the top of a pencil. Colour the tip black

Combine TP #2+3 into a pencil using sticky tape, then poke holes in the bottom of the pencil to thread a string through to tie around your head

Put on blue wig/upside down pompoms. Can secure into place with headband from step two

Put on clothing

Gingerbread House!

Cardboard

Lots of lollies of different colourful spheres

How to:

Cut out house shape in cardboard

Decorate as per desired into gingerbread house design

Tie string to the top to tie around body

“That’s not a candy cane in my pocket…”

“Wanna loosen up my gumdrop buttons?”

“Want a taste?”

Condom dress!

Applicable themes: naughty, safe, under the sea (octopus), moist, protective services, plastic fantastic

Cost: $$$ (however, it is cheap and very easy to get large quantities of expired condoms)

Time: Hours. If not days.

Supplies:

An old dress you will definitely (definitely) never wear again

A large supply of condoms (preferable unused and expired)

A trusty sewing kit

An old towel (to clean condoms and to keep the floor clean)

How to:

Open condoms and wipe on towels

Sew condoms onto dress in orderly fashion

Optional extra: stick two condom onto an old pair of earrings!

Crayon Costume!

Applicable themes: colour party, make your mark, rubix cube party, scribble party, group costumes Cost: $ Time: 10min

Supplies:

Giant piece of coloured paper (or smaller pieces stuck together)

Texta

Black party hat (or regular party hat with black paper wrapped around it)

How to:

Lay out paper on table and draw in the top and bottom borders and "Crayola" (or other crayon manufacturer sign) with texta

Wrap paper around body, fastening with tape 

Put on black party hat

Potential pick up lines that will almost definitely work:

"Girrrrrl you're making me cray cray!"

"I can colour your world"

"Once you go blue, you ain't never going back"

A newspaper

Clear contact

Sticky tape

(Please note: this is an entirely DIY blog, but I did happen to own a newspaper shirt. The below instructions are for a skirt or dress)

How to:

Lay out a sheet of newspaper (preferably The Australian due to it's size)

Gently and carefully lay contact over one side of the paper

Repeat with other side

Wrap the newspaper around yourself (skirt or dress) and tape in place

Potential pick up lines that will definitely work:

“Hey girl. You like bad boys? Because I'm bad news”

“I don't play games. I'm very easy to read”

“Baby you bring the colour into my life”

The Pill Costume!

Supplies:

Two large pieces of thick cream coloured paper

Green paper, white paper, yellow paper cut

Black texta

String or elastic for shoulders

How to:

Stick green paper onto the sugar pill section of the cardboard

Cut white and yellow paper into circles and stick onto cardboard

Using the texta, label the circles into days of the week

Tie up string to front and back pill packets to create shoulders (either via sticky tape or making holes to tie the string through)

How to:

Buy fake moss (an easier endeavour than you think thanks to the interwebs)

Hot glue gun the moss onto an old dress or clothing

Insulation

Pink spray paint

Pink curly wig and party hat (optional)

How to:

Cut out (or rip!) a 2.5X1metre of insulation as well as a long belt strip

Cut out a head hole in the middle of this piece

Spray paint the whole thing pink

Place head through hole, and close sides together by belting up the insulation

Optional: pink wig and party hat

Beer Costume

Applicable themes: Aussie, drinks, things starting with ‘B’, bogan party

Cardboard

Coloured paint

Glue

String

Paint (optional)

How to:

Cut out a beer shaped bottle from the cardboard X2

Either paint, or stick coloured paper on the beer shaped cardboard to create the design

Cut holes at the top of the beer bottles

Using string, tie the front and back together to loop over your shoulders

Optional: brown/beer coloured body paint
