i know i've said this before but i'm going to say it again because the more i work with geriatric women the stronger i feel about the fact that the only anti-aging that women in their 20s/30s should be obsessed with is building strong bones and muscle mass. that's like the most important thing you can you can do right now to lay a good foundation for healthy aging. you can botox the shit out of your face but that's not going to do anything to save you from dying prematurely from a fatal hip fracture that you can't bounce back from because you didn't do anything to prevent yourself from becoming frail and breakable. like i know that sounds harsh but that is reality for a lot of older women and i don't want that to be you.
Some quick screened shotting
Yeah this is great but here’s the thing friends: that’s not anti-aging stuff. That’s pro-aging.
We shouldn’t be trying to pretend we won’t or don’t want to age. It’s exhausting and it’s all about capitalist programming to sell you shit. We should be figuring out how to best support our aging bodies which include our aging brains. That looks like things like….
Daily stretching
Use sunscreen religiously
Morning walks
Gentle weight training
A diet of nourishing food that makes your mind and body happy
Socializing and mental activities
Stress mgmt (look up “weathering”)
Bone density testing
Regular screenings: mammograms, prostate exams, colonoscopies etc.
Increased dietary fiber and digestive health building
In other words, managing aging is exactly the same as just taking care of the animal meat sack that is you very very well and continuing to do so no matter what age your achieve, and adapting that care to your ever-new-and-changing body.
When it comes to strength training, it warms my heart to see the conversation shift more and more from aesthetics to longevity. The American Heart Association recommends 2-3 strength training days/sessions per week — along with 150 minutes of moderate to vigorous exercise. How many people do it? It's hard to do on your own. But man, it's worth every single effort.
