So here we are, the Keynote is over, and like many expected it was only about Software this time, no hardware.
To make the whole thing easy and fast to read, I will make a list. Why? Because I like lists.
OS X Yosemite, the next big update after Mavericks
AirDrop between OS X and iOS
Smarter Spotlight searches that responds with search results as you write
Receive phone calls on your Mac
iCloud Drive, like Dropbox but iCloud
Redesigned interface with new icons
Improved mail, send attachments over 20mb with iCloud
Handoff ā āNow your Mac knows the last thing you were doing on your iOS device and vice versa. So you can start something on one device and instantly pick it up onĀ another.ā
Instant hotspot ā Get online on your Macbook by just being close to it with your phone, easier than before
Photos, shared and synced between all your devices. More ways to edit photos directly.
Messages, record a message and send, take a quick photo, put a name to a group conversation, leave group conversation etc.
You can also answer messages without opening the messages app!!!
Easier way to control your emails in the email app
Family sharing, up to six people can share iTunes, iBooks and App Store purchases. See locations of family members, shared calendar.
Widgets to notification center, even 3rd party ones.
iTouch can be used in 3rd party apps, through Apples secure system though so nothing is shared
iCloud drive, access iCloud files just like you can do it on OS X Yosemite.
Health ā Activity tracker apps, heart rate monitors, and other health and fitness apps can talk to each other and you will have a nice overview of them all.
Receive calls on your iPad just like you can on your Mac, and of course send and receive messages.
Better spotlight searches. Wikipedia entries, places nearby, trending news etc.
Smart keyboard that gives you words it expects you to use next
Ā There are more things that I have missed and I might update a bit more but this was a lot of it.
A lot of APIs were also opened and added for developers but I canāt write a list on all that so please check out the developer page at Apple for more information on that.
I enjoyed the Keynote and I think a lot of these new features are really cool. Some have been used in Android for a long time but that doesnāt really matter. Apple tries to do it the right way instead of just putting a bunch of features out there, and I am going to download iOS 8 beta and OS X Yosemite beta to judge for myself.
